What's the story?
It's a true story about a little flower girl who got in a car accident with a drunk driver after the wedding and was instantly killed.

Out of the four choices, I'd say "Limousine", but I don't really know the story behind the other three songs.

well the story adds to it completely but the lyrics just make my fucking heart hurt (on all of them). "I can feel a hot one" andy hull said he had been on tour for so long and missed his wife entirely so he wrote it about the saddest situation possible, which was losing her (i.e. the song is alledgedly about her dying in a car accident while pregnant with his daughter). "Sleeper 1972" is about a dream Andy Hull had about his dad dying. "I was a cage" is the final song on "The Eventually Home" by Andy Hull's side project Right Away, Great Captain which is a concept trilogy concerning a sailor who is away at sea for 3 years(ish) and just before he leaves he catches his wife sleeping with his brother. "I was a cage" is him "coming home and seeing them together in bed before he kills her" (quoted from andy at a record store performance in cincinnati before he played it)......the main reason this song kills me is because it came out THE DAY after i found out my girlfriend of 3 years slept with someone else and was moving out. she then said "i fell out of love with you last month" (first sentence of the song "It must have been a month since you last loved me") this is why i worship music and im sure the reason most of us on this site do.

Seems like the story behind "I Can Feel A Hot One" and "Sleeper 1972" are as sad as the one behind "Limousine". The story behind "I Was A Cage" sounds disturbing (unless it's some sort of metaphor), but I could see how it connects with the listener (maybe except for that "he kills her" part). Thanks for the explanation though.

Your New Twin Sized Bed and Cath... off of Narrow Stairs by Death Cab is a pretty sad song, though it's hidden in upbeat melodies. Also, if anybody gets the chance, take the time to listen to Wrapped In Piano Strings by Radical Face. It's off the album Ghost, and that song, as well as every song on there isn't just sad, it's haunting.

Fake Plastic Trees- Radiohead. 'If I could be who you wanted, all the time'
Poison Oak- Bright Eyes. 'The sound of lonliness makes me happier'
Horn- Nick Drake. No lyrics, it just makes me cry from start to finish.

sleeper 1972 is damn sad
but for me the winner would be
"lua" by bright eyes
"sleeper 1972" totally takes the cake. even if you don't know the story - with the "everywheeeeere" part near the end.. damn.
other very sad songs:
"personal" by stars.
"what sarah said" by death cab for cutie [has amazing lyrics].
"i can feel your pain" by manchester orchestra [surprised this wasn't here instead of "i can feel a hot one"].
"videotape" by radiohead.
"streets of philadelphia" by bruce sprinsteen.
and, i have to include "not as we" by alanis morrissette. it really is very sad.
edit: and let's not forget "mad world"!

Wow. That song just took on a whole new meaning for me.
Yeah, either the last time I saw Brand New, or the time before last, Jesse said, "This is a song called Limosine"
and I was on the rail, right in front of Derick, and I just screamed "YEAHHHH!" like an immature fan boy,
and I instantly just realized...oh, this is a really sad song...fuck.

I didn't feel like picking "other," so I picked "Limousine." However, the saddest song, at least for me, is "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" by Radiohead. I don't even know most of that song's lyrics, but no other song affects me quite like it does. There's just something about the vocals, instruments, and production that's so unnaturally depressing.

ok.. and since when does a story have to be about a real occurence? i'm pretty sure the chronicles of narnia isn't a real occurence, but that's a story. there's a story behind "sleeper 1972", and even though it's about a dream, it's sad as hell. haha. simple as that.

Evanescence (sp?) - My Immortal
Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me
Those are some very sad songs...especially those first 3. If you have never listened to the the first one, I'd reccomend it. It's a very good, heartfelt song about the singers brothers who died. I found out about this song after a girl in my high school died in a car crash and her boyfriend had just told her it should be "their song". Ironically, she died in a car crash just like in the song. My girlfriend was great friends with her and its still very tough on her and many many others. Anyways, listen to it: FM Static - Tonight

The bridge in "I Can Feel A Hot One" is the most beautiful 16 bars in music, I believe (The "with my teeth ripping out of my head" part). It's ridiculous how much that song gets to me. Such a sad song, but still so beautiful.

"Tonight" is really about a car crash? But yes, I agree with you for most of the songs. Although I think "View From Heaven" is really sad, even though it's so upbeat. I listened to it so much when my uncle died. And "Adam's Song" is really great.
