Minus the Bear, Jack Johnson, Sublime, Matt Costa, Spoon, and Ratatat are always my choices.
Great music you can enjoy but that isn't overbearing so you can still have conversations.

I would say RHCP, 311, 90's music that can be recognized easily, Incubus, The Hush Sound, The White Stripes, Weezer.

Stuff people can sing too and still talk and chill.
