View Full Version : Cute Part Ways With Guitarist

Chris, guitarist of Cute Is What We Aim For (www.myspace.com/cuteiswhatweaimfor), parted ways with the band today. Below is the official statement from him, as well a statement from Shaant (the band's vocalist).
In regard to the ongoing rumors surrounding my departure from the band Cute Is What We Aim For, personal and business beliefs and differences were what led me to pursue other things. Around a month ago I started a band "Settings" that is more towards my musical preference, and that is now in full swing. You can check it out on purevolume at www.purevolume.com/settings. Thank You.
Chris was in the band for about a month and we had a ton of fun, he's a fun and caring gent...but sometimes it was just tough to get him in our neck of the woods, since he lives about 25 minutes away. We're currently writing our record..So right now is a very important time for the band and things weren't working out... All of us love the guy. Hes a great musician and he has a band called 'Settings' give them a listen and best of luck to him and all his future endeavors.

i dont get into the drama, but i do enjoy watching. there used to be a band called cherrybing, and apparently CIWWAF stole one of their songs, but there are members of cute that were in cherrybing...so, you see the problem?
all i can say is, i've seen cute open a few shows around here, and i dont know why anyone would like them, or why FBR signed them.

Eh, whatever, I'm sick of the drama. I'm just looking forward to hearing some Matt Squire produced song from this band in '06. :)

TWENTY FIVE MINUTES!?! every single person in my band lives at least 30 minutes from our practice space. it takes both of our guitar players an hour and a half to get to practice and we practice three to four times a week. that dude must have the world's biggest vagina if he can't handle a 25 minute drive. they should've kicked his ass out after a week of that pussy shit.

that's not even the main reason, it was just something that was mentioned that factors in.

dear everyone;
do their personal reasons really have an impact on your life? no. get over it, you'll feel a lot better. i promise.

uh that's not true. they really are still good friends.
we didn't start the drama. their (ex-)manager did.

i like them, i think they are nice guys and write good songs.
well of course you would, youre opening for them. i like how they use a 25 minute excuse as the reason for it being so difficult. I know kids in bands who drive 2 hours for practice cause they are so dedicated.

i mean i can understand that. with today's gas prices, 25 minutes could cost about, well assuming he's going an average of 40 mph the whole time it would be around 16 or 17 miles, so about $1.50 - $2.00 in a compact, maybe $3.00 - $5.00 in an suv.
i don't know about you guys, but i sure wouldn't want to be spending that kind of money to be in a band. especially when 6 months from now we'll probably see pete wentz on mtv wearing a PETER IS WHAT WE AIM FOR shirt and sell ton of cds.

OMG 25 minutes away. that's soooooo farrrrr.
whatever.
when they stop being so annoyingly derivative i'll stop disliking them.

TRUTH:
Apparently here is what happened. Chris needed some financial security, the band all wanted to get contracts with eachother as far as how much each member was going to get. Shaant wanted 50%, and wanted to give the rest of the band 50% to split four ways between them (fred, jeff, tom, chris). Chris was not ok with this and quit.
Taken straight from the afterdark boards.. i dont know, when i talk to Shaant he always seems like a nice guy....... so either this is a line of shit, or he is completely two faced

i agree with the drummer for "a change of pace"
if you have nothing good to say aobut the band, and all your going to do is bitch...then just dont listen, and dont bitch about it..k?

OR he puts fors 50% of the effort in the band and the other guys are along for the ride. in which case, he'd deserve 50% of the profits

I dont know if there is truth to this, but here in Buffalo rumour is it had everything to do with business, money, and greed; so chris decided to quit. I dont know.
in case you missed the memo, buffalo is full of drama and rumors. don't play he said she said.

they fucked ppl over.
they're all about money.
they'll do it again.
the only thing wrong in this thread...is that shaant got 60% of the contract
www.myspace.com/cherrybing (http://www.myspace.com/cherrybing) the old band they dicked before, apparently they were 'brothers' too.

Well none of this matters anyway. In less than a year, this whole teen punk pop bullshit will be finished and Shaant will be bagging groceries at Wegman's if he's lucky. 50%...HA! That kid deserves a kick in the nuts for all his troubles. Everyone hates him and those who pretend to "defend" him are just in it to start bullshit drama. He's a waste of space and life and he totally screwed over CB and it's just surprising that these other guys have put up with him as long as they have.

01/04/06, 05:36 PM
Plus there is no way his ass would get any more than 20% of my contract. He doesn't play any instruments (aside from the meat flute) and sings half-assed. Make that 15%.
