The new AP.net profiles are active. They incorporate ajax (an amazing technology) and are just a whole lot better than the old ones. Hope you like them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AJAX

It's amazing. It can load all the user's comments, friends, and freespace without ever reloading the page itself or loading a new page. I'm going to be incorporating the same technology on our main page very soon in order to archive all our news posts in a way where without reloading the main page a user can view every news post we've made.

I always thought it was google, could be wrong. Maybe it's Sun? I dunno.

from a link off the wikipedia article:

Q. Did Adaptive Path invent Ajax? Did Google? Did Adaptive Path help build Google’s Ajax applications?
A. Neither Adaptive Path nor Google invented Ajax. Google’s recent products are simply the highest-profile examples of Ajax applications. Adaptive Path was not involved in the development of Google’s Ajax applications, but we have been doing Ajax work for some of our other clients.

it doesn't say who did, though. i vaguely remember reading an article saying MS developed it for their online version of outlook. maybe that was just XmlHttpRequest though

Ah, I must have been like others and assumed it was google because of how much it's incorporated into their website. That's where I got the idea for using it throughout this page ... thanks for the tid-bit!

Definitely doesn't work in Opera. :/ If I go to someone's profile, it'll load up, but if I want to go to another section of someone's profile, the page just comes up saying 'false'. Then again, Opera's always been stupid when it comes to JavaScript.
