Is J.J. Abrams the next great blockbuster director (in the vein of Spielberg, Lucas, Jackson, etc.)?
Note: If you vote No, who do you think has the potential to be?

I thought about this for awhile, but just the fact that he is behind Lost, Alias,Fringe, OBVIOUSLY Felicity, Cloverfield, Star Trek and the only good Mission Impossible gives me hope. And if done right, The Dark Tower series could absolutely be his Star Wars/LOTR.

i hope he does The Dark Tower series right. because if he takes control of it, it could potentially be his career for a long time (if he decides to direct each one personally).

i can definitely see it happening, especially if star trek meets expectations. the guy certainly has enough buzz around him, and does seem to have great vision/passion for his projects

I love J.J. Abrams stuff, but he has a long way to go before he is mentioned in the same breath as the directors mentioned in the question.

No, I think Del Toro will be. But I think JJ can achieve that status down the line.
I was hoping this would be best stoner movie...

That's odd because I thought he was behind the 3rd Mission Impossible movie, not the first...

Star Trek movie looks bad, I think Del Toro is going to be to break with the Hobbit.

I can see it being a 7/10, perhaps. But a lot of choices made on the film were very disappointing. Nimoy's presence is their best decision.

has del toro movies made money? (like a good amount)
and on JJ, it depends how long his LOST following will continue. Like honestly, as soon as I saw the name JJ abrahms/Bad robot, I didnt care what the movie was after that, I knew I'd see it no matter what. Ive never been interested in Star Trek, but all of a sudden im pumped? why?.............. bad robot.

Hellboy 2 made double the budget at box-office and over $42,000,000.00 in DVD sales.

This, and The Hobbit will put him even further up there. Hence why he will be the next big time director. The Hobbit will BLOW HIM UP.

My favorite Rhode Island cinema updated their twitter yesterday to say: "J.J.Abram's 5 Favorite Films... http://tinyurl.com/cnqzdv I really think this guy is going to be the next Spielberg."
I like how this is a common discussion lately. I'd love for it to happen.
i dont mind a bit of J.J. Abrams but i dont think he's ever going to reach spielberg heights
