Who?

Man Overboard and their self-assigned mantra to “Defend Pop-Punk” aren’t a breath of fresh, New Jersey air. But, umm, that’s sorta the point.


How Is It?

Hung Up On Nothing is five songs in 12 minutes – and free – so I can’t really think of anything to say that doesn’t make me sound like the best, coolest, most handsome sales person ever. Fine, I’ll try. Nik Bruzzese and Zac Eiestenstein – apart from having ridiculously hard to spell last names – lead the band with their energetic and youthful vocals. The other two members, one of which is the drummer for Bangarang!, Justin Mondschein, keep the record moving at mach speeds.

My only real gripe is the song order. Hung Up On Nothing curiously opens with an acoustic chant-a-long (“Love Your Friends Die Laughing”) and ends with a weak, extremely nasally rocker (“Dude, Are You Kidding Me?”). Sandwiched in between these oddities is “Disconnect,” an ode to long distance relationships. The song’s stuttering guitars and passionate vocals evolve into one heck of a hook, leading me to bow at the altar of Man Overboard. It’s real simple: short and sweet and free, Hung Up On Nothing is a worthwhile listen.

don't know when it came out actually. But it was in the queue and i liked their xmas song on the No Sleep sampler so I requested it. I think this has 3 really solid jams.

This is pretty good, nothing amazing. They are no All Or Nothing.

I have no idea what everyones deal with Love Your Friends... is, that song is easily the worst on the album, it's not put together well at all, the "catchy sing-a-long"'s aren't even sung in proper unison, it's a very poorly made song.

I was also assuming there would be some pretty fast songs on this EP.....damn.

It's not a bad song...I'm just not understanding all the incredibly positive comments people made for that particular song. That's all.

I think the other songs are just a lot better.

To be honest I have never heard of this band until Jeff Kummer was mentioned to be playing drums for them at a show. I figured, whats good enough for Jeff is good enough for me and I went and gave them a listen. I really dig what I hear so far and as they continue to grow they will only get better.

I think that's the point. I love that song. It's infectious. Also currently my ringtone.

i love how this record got a super low rating..one of their best releases IMO but look at Real Talk ..5 out of 5 record of the year. How things change.
