Comeback Kid (http://www.purevolume.com/comebackkid) - Wake the Dead is not only my favourite hardcore album of the year, but the title track is also one of the catchiest hardcore songs I've ever heard. They bring in more of a punk influence than most hardcore bands these days (who all seem to feel metal is the way to go), and they pull it off extremely well.

The Falcon (http://www.thefalconisbiggerthanjesus.com) - This Chicago super-group (featuring members of the Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, and an ex-member of Rise Against) not only had one of the best EPs of 2004 (although it was released so late in the year and with such little publicity that it went mostly unnoticed), but they also have undeniably the best website URL of any band I've ever seen.

Murder by Death (http://www.murderbydeath.com/) - No, despite the name, they are not a shitty generic metalcore band. This talented bunch of individuals play an art-rock style with a cello, similar to that of Cursive. Back in 2003, they released one of the year's best albums in Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left of Them? to much critical acclaim yet little commercial success. It was one of the best-executed concept albums I've ever listened to, and if you want to learn the most about the story and lyrics, the singer/lyricist Adam posted the story behind every song and their symbolism right here. (http://www.murderbydeath.com/whowillsurvive/whowillsurvive.php) Their album next year is one of my most anticipated of 2006.

Damien Jurado (http://www.damienjurado.com/) - If you're a fan of indie/folk singer songwriters in the vein of Iron and Wine, Damien Rice, or Sufjan Stevens, maybe it's about time you gave Damien Jurado a listen. His album On My Way To Absense came out earlier this year, and it has some nice soothing melodies.

That's it for my recommendations for the week, although I will once again recommend that everyone listen to some good Christmas tunes over the holidays. Other than that, good luck on exams to all the other college/university students out there.

Nice rec's. I've been meaning to get ahold of some Damien Jurado for a while now. Murder By Death's always great, as well.

aw, i thought murder by death did all right after WWSAWWBLOT?. i've been to a lot of their shows, and early on it was all opening slots, but for the past year or two and they've been headlining quite a bit of their shows.

Well, I heard about them in all sorts of magazines, and yet never heard anyone on this website or any other really discussing them back then. Plus, it is practically impossible to find their CDs, or at least it is everywhere I've looked in Canada.

Murder by Death is one of my favorite band as well, and it IS almost impossible to find their CD's here. I actually had to order my copy of "Who Will Survive..." online almost 2 years ago, but it was well worth it. I've actually been listening to their first album "Like The Exorcist, But More Breakdancing" quite a lot for the past couple of weeks, and the demo they've posted a while ago of one of their new songs, "Dynamite Mine", is absolutely breathtaking. This is definitely on my most anticipated albums of 2006 list. Can't wait!

The Falcon and Murder By Death fucking rule.

Murder By Death's name comes from a movie, as well which kinda negates the whole generic metalxcore feel.

Great recs once again, my friend. The Falcon is good shit, but I admittedly didn't get them upon first listen. The case was similar with Murder By Death...I was turned off by their name and wrote them off as generic shit before I even listened to them, but I fell in love soon after first listen.

Yeah. My friends and I wanted to watch it, but none of us have a netflix account and the video stores around here suck.
