Just wondering.
Be sure to reply with the band that started you off. For me, it was Taking Back Sunday back in seventh grade.

I think was about 13 or 14. The bands were NOFX, Rancid, Rufio, New Found Glory, and Flogging Molly. It was a great time.

Sum 41, New Found Glory, Autopilot Off, Goldfinger and Rufio!

I was 16. The bands were Rancid, Operation Ivy, NoFX, Alkaline Trio, New Found Glory, Saves The Day, AFI. I guess you could count Blink when I was like 14 but I didn't really get into the scene because of them. I like what I heard of them on mtV but that was it. I didn't know there was any other bands like that haha.

I was 37, because I'm a very old man.
But seriously, I never truly got into the 'scene.' I really liked Circa Survive, The Fall of Troy, The Sound of Animals Fighting, and a lot of the Equal Vision lineup when I was 15-16, but I never really got into TBS, NFG, Thursday, or any of those bands really deeply. Around 17ish, TSOAF led me to more orchestral and minimal composers, like John Cage and Steve Reich, which led me to noise/drone music, and then to punk, to avant garde, to kind of post rock-ish stuff, and then to the whole art rock scene going on now which (I guess?) leaves me where I am today.

I went through all the phases as well but I'd have to say what really got me into the scene was Taking Back Sunday's "Tell All Your Friends" and Brand New's "Your Favorite Weapon" back when I was 13.

14. I had discovered Fuse and I watched almost everyday after school. Steven's Untitled Rock Show helped me get into a ton of bands, and I especially loved a lot of the bands he interviewed on the show. Dedicate Live and The Dive helped me get into this type of music, too.

My first real show was at Trees in Dallas, which is closed down now. I saw Hidden in Plain View, The Academy Is, Spitalfield, Halifax, and A Change of Pace. It was an incredible show!
I also remember hearing "This Could Be Anywhere in the World" by Alexisonfire on the stereo while one of the bands was setting up and thinking to myself, "This is crap, I would never listen to this." because back then I wasn't into anything with screaming vocals but now I absolutely love Alexisonfire and many similar bands.

What scene? There's a million different music scenes. I got into music in general first hearing Metallica at age 12. That kinda opened the doors for everything else. By 14 I started getting into punk and then it all kinda spiraled from there.

I was about 11 or 12, mostly Taking Back Sunday, New Found Glory, Fall Out Boy, some Blink.
When I was 13 I started listening to OpIvy, Rancid, Streetlight Manifesto, and a lot of local ska bands.
Then about a couple months ago I got into bands like Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, and similar bands to that.
Who knows whats next.
I'm not part of any "scene"

I was around 12-13 yeard old, the first cd I ever got was Face To Face's S/T cd, but the first one I ever bought with my own money in an actual record store was NOFX's SLATFATS...I remembering listening to Millencolin's Life On A Plate, Guttermouth's Musical Monkey and MXPX's Life In General like A LOT !!! Those were great times...I could go on forever about what cd's I listened to at that age but those were the main ones, from what I remember.

13 yrs old. I started listening to New Found Glory on a random purchase. After that I was all about local emo-rock shows, and that lead to me getting into "Tell All Your Friends" and "Your Favorite Weapon." At the same time, I had been introduced to hardcore and metal through a kid at church with suggestions about Norma Jean, Hopesfall, Underoath, and Zao. So I got into both of those at the same time. Those were fucking great times...

in high school, i guess 16 or 17. not sure if Finch or The Used count, but if not that then I was certainly into Taking Back Sunday by then, I remember the first cd I played in my new college dorm was Where You Want to Be by Taking Back Sunday (set phasers to stun, i believe).
not even counting Dookie, though, I was so young when that came out, listened to it non-stop though...
good charlotte turned me on to RANCID

Well by music I get you... my mom is an accomplished singer, so I've been exposed to music since being born, BUT I just thought it was funny because of the "scene" thing... like the first time you go to a punk rock show.

12. I'd heard songs off of Blink-182's Enema and Green Day's Dookie when they were in high rotation on the radio during the 90's, but I never really got into any of it until 7th grade, when I moved to a different middle school and I became friends with all of these really cool kids who used to listen to stuff like Anti Flag and then some of the pop punk bands that were popular at the time. I was really into NFG and Sum 41. But I have to say that what eally propelled me into this kind of music was the first time I listened to My Chemical Romance in winter of '01. One of my friends sent me a song, back when MCR were complete nobodies. Hahaha, I still wonder where he found those guys. I've been through so many phases and my tastes have changed throughout the years.

12 yrs old, just before turning 13. The Used's S/T was the first album by any band that I truly loved and listened to over and over. Such a shame they've gotten progressively worse.

04/24/09, 08:08 AM
MxPx first with the Ever Passing Moment when I was 12 then Blink 182 and it took off from there
When I was 13 I bought NOFX - "liberal animation" because I liked the cover art. I was already a big fan of "dammit" by blink, but I think buying that NOFX album was what got me into exploring more bands and going to shows.
Green Day and Blink 182 in 7th grade.
i was 8 or 9. Can't remember how.
14. A friend made me listen to "Homesick at Spacecamp".

I'm not sure what scene we're talking about here but I definitely JUST got into good music last year when I was 19.
I listened to like No Doubt and Red Hot Chilli Peppers since I was 8, and around 10 I had some sense of who blink 182 and a few other bands were, but nothing really hit me until 7th grade when my friend gave me a TSL, a TBS, and a Yellowcard cd and then I got hooked.
15, started with Linkin Park, not really this scene, but started with them. And with Story of the Year it really began with developing a music taste. ;)
