View Full Version : The "Perfect" Tour Package
Pat Marquez
12/11/05, 09:39 PM
Here is a new discussion question: In your opinion, what do you think would be the best tour package? Don't just put four of your favorite bands together, make sure you actually think about it. Consider the type of music, the fan base each band has and etc. The bands also have to be together, and make sure you also leave a small reasoning. I have given you two of mine below.
Headlining: Thrice
Opening bands: A Life Once Lost, Between The Buried And Me, Cave In
Reasoning: All four bands play some variation of hardcore and metal added with a little bit of a "spacey vibe." Notice as the first band is much more heavier than the next four. The music becomes less chaotic with each opening band, and a little bit more spacier (for lack of a better word).
Headlinging: Nine Inch Nails
Opening bands: The Dillinger Escape Plan (I can't really think of any two others, I'm at a loss. Try and think of two other bands and if I agree I'll throw the names up here.)
Reasoning: Nine Inch Nails and The Dillinger Escape Plan need to tour together, it would be insane.
WakeUpCall22
12/11/05, 09:42 PM
Headlining: Brand New
Opening: The Receving end of Sirens, Thursday, Say Anything
Reasoning: Brand New is phenomenal. They are a well rounded band with a lot of hype leading up to thier long awaited new cd. TREOS and Thursday add a little bit more "rockness" to the show, and Max Bemis shows off his skills with Say Anything leading the show off.

Headlining: Brand New
Opening: The Receving end of Sirens, Thursday, Say Anything
gahh no... that just wouldn't work. i mean i know that is probably your "dream" tour but i what i wanted this to be was more of a realistic tour.. because trust me a line up like that would never work.
I could see Brand New taking out Say Anything but neither of those two other bands... plus Thursday would at least have to co-headline and there wouldn't be any way Say Anything would play after them.

marbury1414
12/11/05, 09:47 PM

Support: Recover, Emanuel, He Is Legend
Reasoning: I would love to see what is essentially a "rock and roll" tour. And all the bands are great live.

FeynmanWannabe
12/11/05, 09:49 PM
Headlining: Iron & Wine
Opening: Rufus Wainwright, Ray LaMontagne, Sufjan Stevens
Reasoning: All artists are relatively quiet, but can a pleasantly upbeat live show with the softest songs staying just soft enough. Furthermore, they all have pretty unique voices and all in different ways (if only I could add Antony & the Johnsons). Plus, they're four of my favorite artists. heh

That show with mewithoutYou, Converge, Thursday would be a killer tour package as well.
WakeUpCall22
12/11/05, 09:51 PM
Headling: Motion City Soundtrack. They put on an amazing live show with alot of energy.
Opening: Saosin, Men Women and Children, Cauterize.
This would display a good variety of different styles of rock. All great bands.

KnoWs My NaMe
12/11/05, 09:53 PM
Headlining: Saves The Day
Support: Cartel, Say Anything, This Providence
Reasoning: Why Not? Max's favorite band is Saves The Day and you already know he wouldn't turn this down. Cartel owns pop-punk in my eyes and This Providence would go well with the crowd most partial to Stay What You Are era.
thebestkylever
12/11/05, 09:53 PM
headlining: saves the day. ... with brand new and say anything.
headlining: brand new/thursday

Yeah that wouldn't make any sense as a tour. Maybe as a festival of some sorts, but certainly not a tour. All 5 of those bands have headlined national tours already. I highly doubt that they could settle their egos and figure out who would headline and who would open/support. But it would make for an interesting show, I'll give ya that much.

Emery (Direct Support)
Beloved (RIP - Support)
Circa Survive (Support)
Codeseven (RIP - Opener)
This tour is the mix of erie, yet beautiful music going from no screams to bands with a good amount of screams that are placed in the music at good times and not overdone. All five of these bands are "musicians bands". If you play any instrument, chances are you like or at least respect most of these bands for how they convey their music writing.
This would have been an amazing tour

It seems plausible, considering the good relationship between Thursday, Cursive and MBD, and I just had to throw in The Weakerthans. I think it would create a very good progression throughout the show, and the music would be absolutely amazing. Yep, that would be my dream tour.

12/11/05, 10:04 PM
Headlining: Head Automatica
Support: Hellogoodbye, The Early November, I Am The Avalanche, Hit The Lights
Reason: Head Automatica and Hellogoodbye would make it a dance partyish atmosphere, I think IATA/E:11 would fit in great to add a little different sound and Hit The Lights would be a great opener for maybe only part of the tour
If you took off Hit The Lights it could be The "Drive-Thru Records Supports Head Automatica Tour", b/c I just realized how many DTR bands I put in here, I wanted to put Say Anything in, but that's just unrealistic

Headlining: Mogwai
Opening: Explosions in the Sky, Pelican, The Red Sparowes
If ETIS played some of the older, "Fucking Destroy" stuff this would work perfectly as the tour I would want to loose my hearing too. Post-rock galore and most likely the loudest show ever.
To fill in Pat's
Headlining: Nine Inch Nails
Opening: The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, (Team Sleep/Pelican)?
Reason: Dillinger, NIN, and Converge have all perfected their genre's. If hardcore were a mainstream genre Jake Bannon would be as revered as Trent Reznor. They are all three groups of incredibly talented musicians and song writers. I can't really think of another opener but Team Sleep seems to cross my mind as a band that would kinda fit. Can't really put my finger on it why though. Pelican is kind of in the same spot. Actually the darkness of Godspeed You Black Emperor! might be the perfect opener for this show. A little dark and gloomy orchestra never hurts.

Opener: Breaking Benjamin
reasoning: i'm at the point in my musical appriciating life that i would pay just about any amount of money to see metallica. my roommates went and saw them last summer. Yeah, i'm not a huge fan of their music, but just the inluence on rock music as we know it. there's a good reason why most rock stations play manditory metallica at certain times of the day. they are the defentive rock music/live act of our time.
the other bands are just up and coming hard rock acts, plus breaking benjamin is incredible live.

matt belamy has such an amazing voice and the lights synced with the sound which sounds 214123 times better live. its just amazing and at the end of the concert no one can say enough about them
Don't get me wrong, I love me some Muse and Matt Bellamy, but there is no way they "do it better" than Radiohead. Just my opinion but I'm sure there are many others that would agree with me.

Adding in Death Cab to some of these tours does not even make sense.
Coldplay w/ Death Cab for Cutie and Sigur Ros.
Head Automatica w/ Gatsby's American Dream, Emery and Reggie and the Full Effect.
I could see both tours happening very easily, as Sigur Ros has opened for Coldplay before and Death Cab makes sense for that one, plus the other one all four bands fit the fun vibe, not so much Emery in terms of danceable, fun music, but just in their atmosphere and show style.

Or

i'm too tired to formulate an entire package at the moment, but all i know is i would love to see gatsbys american dream in support of brandtson.

You're right, New Found Glory are not assholes, but they are also friends with Fall Out Boy and touring with them would be a rather successful arena tour. Not to mention... Chad did do vocals on From Under The Cork Tree.
in that case,i would hope that FOB would open for NFG

Headline: Green Day/Foo Fighters
Support: Alkaline Trio, Say Anything
Reasoning: Uh, duh? Greatest rock bands on the fucking planet all on the same bill. I heard a rumor years ago about Green Day touring with Foo Fighters...And I've been pretty bummed that it hasn't happened ever since. I know for a fact Green Day are Alkaline Trio fans and I feel like Say Anything would round out the bill perfectly.
Headline: Less Than Jake
Support: The Suicide Machines, the Lawrence Arms, A Wilhelm Scream
Reasoning: Fun, frenetic, anthemic punk rock bands unite.
Headline: The Dropkick Murphys
Support: The Bouncing Souls, Against Me!, the Lawrence Arms
Reasoning: If you couldn't have fun at this show...You have no soul. Or you might just be a Taking Back Sunday fan.
Headline: The Descendents
Support: NOFX, Lagwagon, Dillinger Four
Reasoning: For fans of the punk rock circa 1996.
Headline: Alkaline Trio
Support: Tiger Army, Love = Death

12/12/05, 07:48 AM
headline: deftones
direct support: glassjaw
opening: the bled and circa survive
reason: deftones and glassjaw being not only my favorite bands but two of the most amazing bands ever have already toured together and are both leaders and pioneers in the music they play. the bled are a unique band imo and are very underrated and circa survive is another band doing something different and doing it well. all bands have a similar heavy element(excpet maybe circa) which could tie it all together.

12/12/05, 08:15 AM
Headline: Brand New
Support: Days Away, Hot Rod Circuit, Midtown
Reasoning: Brand New has already taken out HRC 43 times, I know, but it worked then so let's put them on one more. Days Away would contribute with their pop-ish but still somewhat ambient music. Midtown would bring a more rock feel to ease the transition into Brand New
Headline: Thursday
Support: TREOS, Explosions in the Sky, Murder By Death
Okay, a somewhat odd tour package but it seems to make sense to me. Geoff has tastes in bands like EITS and has expressed his like for MBD, and I think it would be an outstanding show. I've never seen EITS or MBD, but I'd love to see them with Thursday as a safety net (not that I'm doubting they're amazing live or anything). TREOS is just to make sure there's a little rock in there and they're good live.

12/12/05, 08:35 AM
headliner: the appleseed cast
supporting: sleeping at last
opener 2: as tall as lions
opener 1: veda
reasoning: it's good music by good bands. veda gets the crowd going with their brand of rock, and then as tall as lions wows everyone. sleeping at last, while on interscope, defers to the appleseed cast's longevity and lets them headline. they both proceed to rock and daniel from as tall as lions does a cameo on "steps and numbers" to finish the night, everyone goes home happy.

Yeah but we are saying that now it is not likely. It was more likely when they were smaller.
New Found Glory taking out GUTG and RJ was only like a year and a half to two years ago. Also, Broken Sounds put out the Righteous Jams EP, as well as Suffocate Faster's CD. Broken Sounds = Chad Gilbert.

this would be a perfect mix of the types of bands that helped get this scene going and what i would consider to be the future, or where the sound is going. and i believe that this lineup would be possible because TBS and GJ are label mates now, and TBS although they aren't as hard as any of the other bands on the bill usually do tour with harder bands.

I was actually thinking about this the other day, and I think a good tour would be:
Headliner: Straylight Run
Support: mewithoutYou
Opener: Lydia
That just seems like it would work really well to me, especially in the winter time, they all have this kinda dark gloomy feel to the music. Plus, the progression is good Lydia is kinda mellow but with a lot of emotion. mewithoutYou can bring some rock and are definitely emotional and Straylight Run puts on one of the most emotional shows I've ever seen and they mix it up with the rocking and the mellowness. I do think there's something missing from this show though, one more band to fill it out but I can't quite figure it out what it would be...hmmm, maybe an acoustic opener, like anthony green acoustic or something.)
Ooh, and another good one would be Alkaline Trio opening, Hot Water Music in direct support, Bayside before them and The Lawrence Arms opening (only cuz the Lawrence Arms is my least favorite of those, but you could essentially put it in any order you want.) And if you thought to add a fifth band, Piebald would go really well, too.
And I just thought of another one: Jack's Mannequin, Butch Walker, Hanson, The Rocket Summer. That would be a fun show.
