This is like comparing apples and oranges. Delicious Jamaican oranges, in fact.

Went with Dylan because of the "who do you prefer?" post. As far as who is the better musician, that is pretty hard to say.

You ask who's a better musicians but then you ask who do you prefer. I prefer Dylan by about a mile so I picked him. Marley is probably the better musician though, unless you count songwriting as a part of being a musician. Tough question.

"No, I was talking about . . I didn't say . . what'd you hear?"
Haha, I love that show.

Really hard question. Both of them did so much for their genres. But I would say Bob Dylan, based on the face that he influenced a lot of the music I listen to today.

Okay, okay, I'm going to be honest here and risk public stoning, but I'm not really a fan of either musicians. I KNOW, I KNOW! I'm a heathen. But I guess I like Bob Dylan better. His lyrics are good (that's probably such an understatement for many of you) Plus my mom used to go to Bob Dylan concerts when she was younger.

Tell me about it. I think it's safe to say that she's cooler than I am. She's one classy lady.

love dylan, but marley by a long shot. i think i've had this discussion before with some members, but i'm always keen to re-spark it. people here don't seem to fully grasp marley's importance/influence as a whole. it goes far far beyond the realms of reggae music. dylan & marley are really very comparable artists when you think about it

No, she doesn't keep up with any of that stuff but she is eager to hear the new album. Our local indie record store had a listening party on Record Store Day and she considered going, but decided against it.

There are some on Long Island, but for the majority of the year i am in Geneseo NY, where i go to school. It's a little town in the middle of nowhere. So no indie record stores up here.

Personally I would say song writing would have to be taken into account, especially when comparing artists like this. I mean, some people may be able to play their instrument better, but they can't write a song and have no song writing abilities, while the other may not be as good at guitar but can write a song like nobody. I would have to go with the one who writes songs better almost every time. How well someone can play an instrument just doesn't impress me so much.

Ohhhh, I see. But you're sort of near Rochester and Buffalo, and those cities ought to have some good record stores, right (even though it may be a bit of a drive). I know how you feel, though. The other college I attended didn't have any good record stores or concert venues. I either had to order albums online or I had to wait until I went home during break.

Rochester is about 30 mins away and i am sure they have at least one record store. I don't have a car up here so it makes it harder to get there for concerts and stuff like that. Luckily when i am home, Long Island is just a train ride from the city so i get to see a lot of shows.

That happened to me, too. I didn't have a car, so I was always stuck at school. I was only able to go to one or two concerts when I was at that school and it was usually if someone who had a car was going. It sucks so much, I'm sorry. If I remember correctly, Long Island has a record store called Looney Tunes, right?

Ya it sucks not to have a car. Looney Tunes is a pretty popular record store on Long Island, they have a lot of in-store signings, performances, etc.
