Reach For The Sun is almost here. Anyone else stoked?

prediction: people will love this upon leak/release, but about a month later hipster doofuses (hipster doofi? I dunno you tell me) will come out of the woodwork to shit all over this band.

regardless I am excited

Even if the love dissolves into hate, I will still keep this as one of my current favorites in 2009. Albums that hit me upon first listen like this one did keep getting better with each rotation.

I read your blog entry about RFTS being your favorite pop record since The Graduate's Anhedonia. Which do you like more atm?

Tough one. Still have to go with Anhedonia, but talk to me in a couple months after I've worn through this album and it might change haha

I think I do like the lyrics on Reach for the Sun a bit more though. They speak to me more in a general sense.

Band is fucking awesome. Been hearing about them for a while and finally listened to their EP a week or so ago and it's awesome. Reach For The Sun is just on a whole other level than the rest of the scene at the moment. It really is like We All Need A Reason To Believe x10. This band is becoming an instant favorite of mine

I've never heard of them until I found out that they were recording their full length with Paul Leavitt. Checked out their Myspace immediately and became stoked for RFTS.

I see what you mean. The vocals very reminiscent of Direction/BOATS era TSL (which is what John O is trying to do by the way) I have to disagree, WANARTB blends together after Safe To Say, and Valencia's first album is really lame. TDS lyrics are ten times as intense and personal as Valencia's, but I admit that Valencia has the bigger hooks.

You must listen to it more. Liked it the first few times I listened to it, and after thoroughly listening to it the past few days, I absolutely love it. It's really dark for a pop punk album.

Valencia's first had a couple of good songs, but the rest were forgettable. The album blended together to much.

I feel the same way. I mean, Chase This Light only came out two years ago and as far as melodic/pop rock goes, it's leaps and bounds ahead of this album. We All Need a Reason to Believe is solid too, and I'd put it ahead of this album as well.

If people enjoy it that's fine. I like it too. But some people need to settle the hell down.

Yeah, there have been plenty of other releases too. I wish that Punchline got this much attention because of their new release.

I hope that other bands that do pop punk this well will get as much attention. It doesn't make any sense that The Dangerous Summer gets more attention than new Cursive.

Personally, I don't see what's the big deal with Cursive. I haven't listened to them much but being a fan of genres other than indie, I tend to find most bands in that genre far overyped. I don't know, preferences I guess.

im pretty sure if you took that second starting line album, took out half the songs at random and replaced them with songs from this cd, and played it for random person x, it would never even occur to them that there were different bands. and i mean, that was a pretty alright cd and all, and this is probably as good, but ive already heard it. this shit is perfectly acceptable pop music though, and i know if i was 16 i would be all about it. but i mean, realistically, its only slightly above average.

the whole song had pretty bad lyrics imo.

"My arm's the hose and you're the fire, out of control
And I've got to put you out before there's nothing left at all"
"She said I'll chew you up and spit you out like all them
I'm gonna put you right back in my mouth"

I just feel like if AJ's voice wasn't as unique as it is, this would be an average album at best. His sound and lyrics are making people put the musical aspects of this album on a pedestal. It's a solid album musically, but 9-10 in creativity/musicianship? Not in my opinion. Still listen all of the time, though. Maybe I haven't spun the record as much as the next guy and I'll be screaming CLASSIC in about a week, lol.

this album fucking rules, hands down one of the best of 2009. while the hooks arent huge, AJ's voice and lyrics are fantastic and carry the band as a whole. his voice does sound a lot like kenny's, but if anyone has listened to millencolin, A/B Kingwood and RFTS and you'll see how much MORE his voice sounds like that singer. great album though, 8/10, cant listen to anything else since i got it in january.

Never Feel Alone is one of the best closing tracks I think I've ever heard. It just seems like the entire album has been building to those final 30 seconds and then he just lets it all out. It kills me every single time, and even after so many plays, I still sometimes rewind it and pump the volume at that part. It's just perfect to me. I went for TDS and Mayday Parade. TDS probably played about 6 or 7 song I think, not positive though. Mayday played for over an hour, and a good amount of their songs were from the old album, which is obviously my preferred album from them. I think the $17 I spent seeing the 2 bands was pretty good. I could have done without There For Tomorrow and I only saw like 2 songs from City Lights so I don't know what to say about them. Overall, it was a pretty good concert, and especially since I haven't seen TDS before, I think it was worth it.

This was definitely my AOY for 2009. These guys are soooo good and awesome live too. I really hope they catch a break soon too they totally deserve it.
Also some people say they sound like the Starting Line but I don't really hear it they're way less pop punk sounding than The Starting Line.

If there's no Toronto date on this tour, I'm gonna have to make the trip up to New York to see it. Added bonus that TMO is playing

Wow, there's a Toledo, Ohio date. Sadly, I am not sure if I will be close to Ohio at that time. :-(

An Australian/Asian tour would be awesome. I also wish for a new record..can't wait for it to come out.
