Anyone remember this in Chemistry. Possibly the most meaningless subject in Chem. Moles to Mass, Mass to Moles, Moles to Particles..

Who cares?

Sorry to all the Chem majors here, I just hate it.

haha, my mom would slap you right now. She's a HS Chemistry teacher. I'm in chem. right now, and I'd have to say... all that conversion shit sucks ass.

We were just doing the mole/particle conversion stuff but my semester is over now. My sem. exam is tomorrow.

hah n00bs. AP chem is where it's at (though I suggest you take AP calc before AP chem...for whatever reason it helps a lot)...I did miserable in AP chem but the key to it is to know how to convert units like a motha fucka.

as for moles, it's very useful and practical. When you do things like molarity, stoichiometry....you'll see that it's much easier to just use moles and see how it relates (as opposed to molecular weight)...if you need help on it...well the best help is to practice.

it might not mean much on paper, but it's handy when you're actually doing chemistry. it's a whole lot easier to bust out a scale than to count moles.

Sorry to all the Chem majors here, I just hate it.you're not alone. it's not even so much that it's hard, it's just really annoying. i'm not even sure why we need to know all of this... if you ever work in a lab or some sort of company where you need to do experiments and labs and whatnot, when you order in your chemicals or whatever it is, they send you exactly what you need so there is no need to sit there and figure it out.

so tell me...how do you tell the company how much of whatever chemical you need? Isn't it by telling them how many moles you need? oh you may argue that they send in grams but please tell me how do you figure out how many grams you'll exactly need for an experiment. oh wait, it's based on the mole to mole ratio from the balanced equation, right? So ya, I know some big shot professor told you that but that's cause he probably does all his mole calculations on a PC now...you still need a good understanding of moles to really understanding how much reactant you need and product you'll produce.

ahh Chem is driving me up the fucking wall right now.

We had to celebrate Mole Day and make our teacher mole related things for a grade...it was pretty lame.

i fucking hate chemistry....the whole idea of science, as a matter of fact...is completely stupid to me...sorry if i offend any science people here...

Heres my theory.....kids probably had to learn this YEARS ago...then it changed because they found out it was all wrong...whats to tell us the same thing wont happen?

it's ok, non-science people call science retarded to cover up their own stupidity. It's understandable.

your problem is so apparant...you can't even make an understandable argument...what did kids have to learn YEARS ago? What changed...how did it change? Things don't just magically change...people discover new things or disprove old theories because we learn more about the world than before.

it's not an insult or being defensive..it's just how it is whether you accept it or not.

and you didn't attack just one branch of science, you said science as a whole.

please, next time you insult science...go sit in a hole in the ground and think about crap that'll help you and man get nowhere...cause science has given you everything around you.

The teacher tried it once and it didn't work out and she's too lazy to come up with a better approach to having it. And I wish we had it because it would help so much since I'm thinking of going into biochem eng.

that really sucks. In some parts of the country APs are too much but around here...it's normal to have students taking APs from their sophomore years and up...I went into college with 20 AP credits...my friend went in with 24 (which means he was technically a sophomore before the year even started)...it saves you time and money and it helps you out like crazy. AP chem is the toughest AP offered in my school and I took it as a senior and I opted to save my 80 bucks and just take college chem when I go to college...I did that and easily aced my classes and it really helps you just learn a lot of fundamentals.

And yeah, I also hate the fact that I would have to take Physics before taking the AP Physics class. I didn't know that before, so it ruins my whole approach since I can't do it anymore. Oh well.

My HS Chemistry was a clone of Mr Rogers. I swear to God, exactly. Spoke in the same ridiculous monotone too. Needless to say I slept through that class and still have no clue what moles are.

I had the same kinda teacher...didn't make a difference though. I never found much interest in it during HS chem...AP was a little better...but now that I'm taking organic chemistry it really is very practical for once.

if you can do moles, you can do molarity. Chem is all about the unit conversions.

Not sure if I'll have room for Calculus in the spring semester though. But I'd end up taking Physics at the same time as either of those classes anyway I think.

well pre calc is just a waste until the very end...you need calculus for physics though...it is possible to take both at the same time...I knew guys who did that and they got fives on both AP exams.
