View Full Version : The Chapelle Theory

One of our readers submitted a document about Dave Chappele's downfall and I've posted it below. It's a very interesting read to say the least.

Hey, I know that this is not music related, but I found it to be a very interesting read. It I am not one to usually give into conspiracy theory, but as outlandish as all this seems, it was put together very well.

http://www.chappelletheory.com/index.html

"This account of Dave Chappelle's fall from grace has been pieced together by a retired public relations executive who wishes to remain anonymous. A very interesting read."

That is very creepy. I don't know if I believe it... Oprah, Bill Cosby, the guy who organized the Million Man March, Al Sharpton, part of a conspiracy theory threatening a man's life? Seems far fetched, but at the same time, not at all.

theres absolutely no way this is real. i read almost all of it, and each page got more far-fetched than the last. it's well thought out, but theres no way that the person who wrote this can know what al sharpton whispered into dave chappelle's ear in a movie theater if chappelle never told anybody.

besides, chappelle makes fun of everybody equally. for every sketch he makes about black people, he makes fun of white people twice as much.

mrzippo3
12/17/05, 12:22 PM
i think it's bullshit... his craft is comedy, he makes millions of people laugh everyday, that's all one can ask for. He is making fun of stereotypes because he has a good sense of humor. This show isn't hurting the black community. I have no idea what are facts and what aren't, but in my opinion, this is some bullshit

" Oprah Winfrey leaned forward and whispered in my ear "you better watch your step — we're representing interests more powerful than you can imagine. You do remember that Farrakhan killed Malcom, and that Cosby, Johnson and I have more money than God — we can keep this harassment up forever. Is this what you want your life to be like Dave?" "

lol, sounds like oprah. whoever wrote this is wacked out. because that is totally what happened to biggie and pac, some black dude got pissed at them for using the n-word and portraying black people as thugs. totally insane

anyways, chappelle had money too. he should've organized something similar to the black crusaders. and this guy makes his wife sound like a bitch, never believing dave and calling the hospital all the time. didn't she ever wonder about the pictures, phone calls, or broken windows??

pretty entertaining story, though. i really miss the chappelle show

Not entirely. They're just showing a couple of the skits he already made. Chappelle won't actually be hosting any episodes. Also, there's going to be a lot less episodes than a regular season.

i belive this theory.

although i beliver there was a bigger involvment with a radical muslim group, then oprah having too much involment.

it really makes a lot of sence.

the show was hilliarous, and it did push alot of racial limits.

and im sure he did get threats to his family.
and smoked alot of pot, and got wicked paranoid.

o well, the skits that were produced for season 3 are going to be released soon. so he did win after all.

and i bet his next movie will be the funnyest movie of all time.

but at the same time i wouldnt be surprised if smaller profile people working for bigger groups were quite upset

This is BS. I stopped here.

" The first episode of Chappelle's Show aired on January 22, 2003. It was a lightly promoted thirty minute show that Comedy Central executives hoped would perform as well as earlier shows such as Strangers with Candy, or The Man Show. The budget was modest, the stars were modest — Chappelle's biggest success up until this time had been the cult stoner comedy Half Baked — and expectations were modest.

Chappelle was looking forward to the show's debut, but was nonplussed about its chances for success.

Clearly, neither Comedy Central nor Chappelle had any inkling of the impact Chappelle's Show would have on pop culture. "

The show was promoted BEYOND BELIEF. You could not get away from ads for the first episode they were everywhere. Comedy Central tested that first episode with THOUSANDS of people in focus groups and it got their highest numbers since South Park.

crazy, i read the whole thing and even if it is not true then it was very well thought out. seems like it isn't too far fetched to have actually occurred. it was kind of weird how Chappelle just backed out of a 50 million dollar deal like that.

12/17/05, 01:25 PM
you have to keep in mind that these are some very powerful people who are driven by such things as race relations. I'm not picking sides here, but really, think about how you likely thought that show was hilarious and didn't think twice about there being negative stereotypes being reinforced in your mind. (I know, I sound cheesy) Chappelle's show must have so much influence on society's standard for acceptable

I tend to believe this theory...but then again, I like a good story, and that was a good story

What did you just say? You cannot build a tolerance to pot?

Yea, good point. That's why after years of substance abuse, potheads still only need two hits to get high, just like when they started. Forget the scientifically proven fact that the more pot you smoke, the more you need to get high.

But back to the topic...this is an excellent read and extremely well organized, but its very idea is flawed. Chapelle does less than 35-40% of the actual writing. Neal Brennan writes the majority of them. Chapelle is just the main actor who delivers the most offensive lines (hence the series' title). If these "Dark Crusaders" were really out to stop the show, they would go after Brennan.

hey retard, when did you get your P.H.D? and yes, you can build a tolerance

The side-effects of pot do NOT decrease the more you smoke it. You get just as euphoric, and just as paranoid/anxious as you would if you smoke every day or once a week. It doesn't matter, it is a SIDE-EFFECT that is non-negotiable.

And this story seems like one of those TV movies that is "Based on a true story". There are probably certain elements that reflect things that happened in real-life, but I highly doubt that any cable station had a direct feed from Oprah's studio to Chappelle's house so she could tell him she was disappointed in the "Niggars" sketch. Unfathomable. BIll Cosby, on the other hand, is someone who would take it upon himself to go directly to Dave Chappelle and tell him that he thought he was hurting the African-American culture.

I think that this could possibly happen...but there were some inconsistencies in the theory. Mainly that he was "sending a message" to the Dark Crusaders using his show...I'm pretty sure that those shows would have already been filmed and he wouldn't have been able to rewrite shows in the middle of the season and do them...could you?

forumreader
12/17/05, 02:34 PM
There is no way this is what happened. I quit reading after the author introduced the "crusaders." Yeah Bill Clinton, Colin Farrell, Pete Wentz, Bill Murray, Larry the Cable Guy and Peter Jackson could all accost Freddie Prinze Jr. to get "Freddie" off the air as well, but I seriously fucking doubt it.

I dunno if anyone said this before me (too lazy to read everything), but this is definitely fake. All of the skits for the show are shot before the season even begins to be shown on Comedy Central (the author even admits this towards the end when he says that 6 of Season 3's episodes were ready when Chapelle backed out), so it makes absolutely no sense that Chapelle wanted leverage against Oprah by doing the skit about her after being woken up in the middle of the night. After all, the next week's show would have already been shot, edited, and ready to be shown for months by this point.

i'll believe it 100%. these are the same black people that act like their race is so opressed and that theyre a minority and blacks are portrayed bad and blah blah blah. its all a bunch of bullshit. look at pro sports those negroes are making millions and millions of dollars and have driven the majority of white people out of them (sans hockey). black people like the "crusaders" are always looking to see if their race is being portrayed bad and if it is they'll blow their damn whistle so hard with all their power. i'm just so sick of seeing this shit all the time. black people need to stop acting like they were their ancestors in slavery and so opressed. you don't see jews going around and blaming the holocaust whenever they have a problem do you? point is, theyre just lazy, drug using criminals. look at the statistics: more than 50% of people in prison are black. and the percentage of black people on welfare i dont quite know but i bet its a majority as well. one more thing, did you notice how the black people were acting in the wake of the hurricane: instead of trying to survive, theyre out looting stores for tv's, "air force ones" and anything except food. also the situation at the dome on how they shot at the helicopters and raped women inside while other people were just trying to survive. they act like cavemen even to this day and that's why i cannot feel bad for them one bit. i'm not racist because that would mean i hate all black people and i dont, i feel there are alot of successful black people out there but they worked for their success while the rest just use opression and slavery as an excuse to be jobless, on welfare, and addicted to drugs/alcohol.

And you posting this makes the "crusaders" point.

Comedy Central is just aiing the episodes that were already shot before dave cancelled the show. They own the rights hes not putting them out, Comedy central is.

Umm if you watched the trailer it was Dave in front of a man that looked like the dude from Power Rangers and it was a skit in itself poking fun at how Dave "ran off" before..... and Comedy Central would not just play 6 episodes....a whole season is 12 therefore Chappelle finished the other 6

i belive this theory.

although i beliver there was a bigger involvment with a radical muslim group, then oprah having too much involment.

it really makes a lot of sence.

the show was hilliarous, and it did push alot of racial limits.

and im sure he did get threats to his family.
and smoked alot of pot, and got wicked paranoid.

o well, the skits that were produced for season 3 are going to be released soon. so he did win after all.

and i bet his next movie will be the funnyest movie of all time.

oh wow.

regardless of what you deny, that entire paragraph is belittling to 95% to the black community, and im positive you havent gotten your point across to anyone due to your heavy use of racial prejudice and stereotypes. if "you arent racist," then learn how to debate something without coming off like an ignorant fucking bigot.

That week's Chappelle's Show featured a sketch that parodied anti-drug commercials, and shows a little girl on a bike being hit by a car of stoned teenagers. In this rendition however, Dave and his crew hit the kid, freak out, and then decide to chop her body up and stuff her remains down a drain.

This never happened

and you my friend really need to sit down and rethink exactly what you just said. Because I'm seriously offended and disgusted and I'm sure I'm not the only one. You're making a pretty bold (and by bold, I don't mean brave) generalization here. And being a racist doesn't mean just hating all black people. Being racist is about ignorance, and what you said here is pretty ignorant. I mean CAVEMEN??? Lazy drug using criminals? C'mon, thats fucking sick. That's EXTREMELY bigoted.

And as far as the hurricane goes, the media was WRONG in what they were reporting. You think white people weren't looting? And that just because they showed a black man wading through the water holding something, that it means he stole it?

And do you expect everyone just to FORGET slavery and oppression ever happened? Yes, there are always going to be radicals fighting for causes, but my god the things you are saying is whats STILL wrong with this country as far as racism and ignorance goes. I mean you wonder why blacks are still angry about it, yet you're just propagating the exact stereotypes and igorance that gives them a reason to be.

I don't know what else to say besides you need to stop blindly following the media or whoever is influencing your opinions because what you're saying 100% wrong. You don't want to sound like a racist, but you do.

And i don't know where you're getting your information, but in my town the majority of people on welfare who aren't actually disabled, are lazy and often fat white people. PLEASE, do some research or something because you have one extremely skewed view of these issues.

The image, allegedly taped by Winfrey, and transmitted to Chappelle's house under the direction of Robert L. Johnson who called in some favors with Chappelle's local affiliate station manager, terrified Chappelle. "

It is not as simple as you put it buddy. It is easy for you to say since you probably grew up in a decent home and never had to deal with any racism which still exists. Unless you grow up poor and neglected by your own country, like many poor black people feal, then you just don't know. To say they are lazy is ridicoulous. The sad fact is there are many people out there that really do not have a chance to be successful in life because of the situation they were brought up in. And his it occured to you that the reason over %50 of people in prison are black is because of racisism and because of their life circumstances they are more prone to crime? Its just not as easy as you put my friend.

I think I can synthesize what some other people on this thread have been saying in response to this little tirade:

You are a fucking idiot. The clearest evidence of this is that you say you are not racist, yet anyone with half a brain could tell you that you are after reading this. You refer to African-Americans as "negroes" and claim that they "act like cavement even to this day". Need I even say more?

It's far fetched, but I kind of want to believe it. There's some crazy shit that can be done with technology these days. Hell, our president just fessed up (and defended..) to authorizing a massive NATIONAL eavesdropping plan. If he can do that, then something like this could definitely happen, too.

Also, I constantly think to myself when I have an African-American customer at my job as to how horrible they're probably treated at every other place in my town. It's kind of sick how people still are horrifically racist in the year 2005. People who get pissed about affirmitive action ought to remember just what we did to these people not 50 years ago.

ok i have a friend who interns for chappelle's show (or did i should say) and the skits are performed and recorded months in advance. ive gone to several tapings and the thing about them is they just show you a shitload of sketches. the sketches arent even all from the same episodes. i saw the wacarnolds sketch and the rick james sketch at the same time, which were in 2 different episodes, and this was also like 4 months or so before season 2 premiered. basically what they do is they film all the sketches and then they film dave later on doing his talking and shit and they film him in all different outfits so they can mix and match sketches in different shows. so saying that he deliberately wanted to piss these people off is completely untrue.

This is very interesting. I don't know where to begin. I think it's possible that something happened to dave. I think prominent african american leaders could have been involved as well. There are flaws in the story however. As someone posted earlier, the episodes are taped in advance, so Chappelle didnt write them a week after an encounter with oprah to get revenge on her. Many of the other things sound very farfetched as well. These people are very powerful and could pull some of these things off. I tend to be intrigued by conspircay theories, and I think some of this could have happened. If I'm mentally retarded for partially believing this, so be it. I don't care.

number one...

it's a waste of time because believe it or not...people will actually buy into this stuff...
of course his show was dope...that's not what i'm arguing.

number two...

the discrernment part kicks in with fat mike because ANYBODY can bring out any kind of evidence, statistics, or sources that persuade people of any notion you want. so...people can "back up" anything they want. the real skill is being able to analyze the information that everyone has been given on all sides and make a sound judgement based on all of it...discernment.

number three...

ap.net posted this as "news". so basically the person who posted it probably read it and then decided it was news worthy and put it up. pretty much anybody can read this "conspiracy" and realize it's a load of shit. i went on the notion that it could be legit. and i started reading it...got though the introduction and realized it was a complete crock. i could have saved my time, had somebody wise enough not posted it.

number four...

nothing is up my ass. is anything up yours (erick with a "k")? i'm giving my reply to a freakin post. unless you posted it, don't take it personal.

number five...

if this was really a "conspiracy", the guy who made the page would be dead and the site would have already been taken down by now.

if you want a real conspiracy, go look into JFK.

honestly ill say it, i think alot of EXTREME SUPERIOR black spokesmen ala Bill Cosby, Al Sharpen, and Jesse Jackson do nothing but harm the black community. They are the ones that have commercialized racism over the past few decades. I swear to god it pisses me off so much when I hear them calling every fucking white person racist. If a black person doesnt get a job at what store then it is automatically racism. Their minds are so warped, they think they are helping the black community when in reality they are just hurting in greatly.....If i didnt have to hear their little rants about racism every fucking day I would probably have forgotten what racism was 15 years ago. Once people stop preaching about racism then it will go away (maybe). Lets just put the history to our backs for once. Stop fucking dwelling on the past. It just doesnt help matters when they accuse of everyone of being racist.

AL SHARPEN AND JESSE JACKSON ISOLATE THEIR OWN RACE WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING IT. I BLAME THE WIDE SPREAD MEDIA COVERAGE OF RACISM ON THEM. idiots, seriously.

I didn't read through the posts but I hope someone pointed out how racist this whole thing is. It's the same as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion...a secret society that controls all etc.

Total bullshit, don't believe a word of it.

honestly ill say it, i think alot of EXTREME SUPERIOR black spokesmen ala Bill Cosby, Al Sharpen, and Jesse Jackson do nothing but harm the black community.

It's not that simple. It's a dark part of our history and it shouldn't be forgotten. How can anyone learn from anything if we just forget about it? It won't go away by just ignoring it. I know what you're saying though, and they do preach quite a bit about it. But I don't think they are actually calling everyone racist, I think their goal is to make white people accept their own priviledge.

But yes, there are going to be extreme radicals for every kind of cause, but you can't condemn them for for talking about what they talk about. They're older and they actually went through a lot of the shit in the 60's when Martin Luther King Jr. was around and riot police were turning hoses on them and everything like that. I mean you know what I'm talking about. I don't know about you, but I'd never forget that if I was black and was a part of that movement.

I dunno, I'm sure over the next couple decades it'll go away as more ideas are introduced and our country has more generations under our belt. I think with every generation, the tension eases a bit more. But then again, with the disturbing thoughts posted on this thread earlier comes the reminder that there are still a TON of people who aren't accepting at all. If it upsets you, the best thing I can say is ignore them. But I don't think they're responsible for hurting the whole race.

Black people are to image concious about their whole race. You guys hear what the NAACP guy said about Donavon McNabb. Said he sold out the black race because he wanted to become a better QB and became a pocket passer instead of a third running back.

number one...

it's a waste of time because believe it or not...people will actually buy into this stuff...
of course his show was dope...that's not what i'm arguing.

number two...

the discrernment part kicks in with fat mike because ANYBODY can bring out any kind of evidence, statistics, or sources that persuade people of any notion you want. so...people can "back up" anything they want. the real skill is being able to analyze the information that everyone has been given on all sides and make a sound judgement based on all of it...discernment.

number three...

ap.net posted this as "news". so basically the person who posted it probably read it and then decided it was news worthy and put it up. pretty much anybody can read this "conspiracy" and realize it's a load of shit. i went on the notion that it could be legit. and i started reading it...got though the introduction and realized it was a complete crock. i could have saved my time, had somebody wise enough not posted it.

number four...

nothing is up my ass. is anything up yours (erick with a "k")? i'm giving my reply to a freakin post. unless you posted it, don't take it personal.

number five...

if this was really a "conspiracy", the guy who made the page would be dead and the site would have already been taken down by now.

if you want a real conspiracy, go look into JFK.

Yeah, but you need to stop freaking out over something that is obviously a joke.

Are you seriously this dumb?? You cannot build a tolerance to pot, therefore it would not matter if its your first or one hundreth time, pot is proven to make you paranoid, no matter how many times you've done this drug.
its not the same for everyone, both of you should stop acting like experts.

a)If this were true how could the "dark crusaders" allow this site to still existl?

i thought the same thing, good point

ok i have a friend who interns for chappelle's show (or did i should say) and the skits are performed and recorded months in advance. ive gone to several tapings and the thing about them is they just show you a shitload of sketches. the sketches arent even all from the same episodes. i saw the wacarnolds sketch and the rick james sketch at the same time, which were in 2 different episodes, and this was also like 4 months or so before season 2 premiered. basically what they do is they film all the sketches and then they film dave later on doing his talking and shit and they film him in all different outfits so they can mix and match sketches in different shows. so saying that he deliberately wanted to piss these people off is completely untrue.

congrats you are the first person to make a statement and take a side with the backing of actual evidence. i love how everyone reads and picks a side, and argues it as thought they have any true knowledge to back it up. speculation isn't a strong foundation to back up any arguement. my take on it? it could be true, it could be complete bullshit. i have no personal evidence for either side. anyone in this thread could write an essay about the topic arguing either side with their own personal speculations and conclusions, but the truth is that no one actually knows. the end. :D

I imagine some of this may be true...to Dave Chapelle. Most likely he had a nervous breakdown and may have said some of this stuff. Some people aren't made for this business and one of them may be Dave Chapelle.

I mean if that thing with Oprah was transmitted to his area other people would've seen it. It's not like they can just transmit it to his house. Plus all the stuff with people getting into the house...AL SHARPTON ISN'T EXACTLY LIMBER! How could that guy get in and out? And why was an attempt never made to silence Chris Rock? Or Richard Pryor? Or Eddie Murphy? I mean yeah it sounds good but it is just a theory and a bit of a far fetched one at that. The most truth I could imagine is maybe Dave thought some of this in his head.

i'll believe it 100%. these are the same black people that act like their race is so opressed and that theyre a minority and blacks are portrayed bad and blah blah blah. its all a bunch of bullshit. look at pro sports those negroes are making millions and millions of dollars and have driven the majority of white people out of them (sans hockey). black people like the "crusaders" are always looking to see if their race is being portrayed bad and if it is they'll blow their damn whistle so hard with all their power. i'm just so sick of seeing this shit all the time. black people need to stop acting like they were their ancestors in slavery and so opressed. you don't see jews going around and blaming the holocaust whenever they have a problem do you? point is, theyre just lazy, drug using criminals. look at the statistics: more than 50% of people in prison are black. and the percentage of black people on welfare i dont quite know but i bet its a majority as well. one more thing, did you notice how the black people were acting in the wake of the hurricane: instead of trying to survive, theyre out looting stores for tv's, "air force ones" and anything except food. also the situation at the dome on how they shot at the helicopters and raped women inside while other people were just trying to survive. they act like cavemen even to this day and that's why i cannot feel bad for them one bit. i'm not racist because that would mean i hate all black people and i dont, i feel there are alot of successful black people out there but they worked for their success while the rest just use opression and slavery as an excuse to be jobless, on welfare, and addicted to drugs/alcohol.

Wow... I vomited in my mouth when I read this

Yeah, but you need to stop freaking out over something that is obviously a joke.

i would've totally just moved along... until i started reading post after post of people that were like..."wow...this is scary" and not joking around.

i'm sure a lot of them are like 15 years old, and they are into this site because part of them thinks it's cool to be into "punk rock". then what happens is they start buying into a lot of the b.s. that people somehow convince them of and everyone tries to push on them... they grow up... and they become like every other scene *** i know. they have the same hair cut, wear the same clothes, listen to the same bands, hold the same political views, and immediately ruin something that could've been totally cool. it's the same tactics that hitler used, just not as severe and not for as evil of a cause. that's why i get on here and try to make it a point to say something when i know people are buying into complete bullshit from people they look up to.
