he gets no consideration but he should. tiki barber has broken the giants rushing yards in a year record and will easily eclipse 2000 all purpose yards. he has been pretty much the entire offense the last couple weeks yet he is always put behind lt, peyton, or shaun. tiki definitely deserves some consideration.

very underated running back. when i think of the best backs in the league i automatically think LT and Alexander (at least this year) and i always over look Barber. its funny because NY is the largest market in the country so you think he'd get the most press, but i bet if he played for a different team he'd get more respect.

you know what bothers me, and this is a bit of tangent, is that Bill Belicheck isn't going to get considered for Coach of the Year again. he could win the super bowl for the third time in a row and still not win it and the thing is, he probably won't win it because every year people say, well the patriots are supposed to be good, so lets give it to someone that has turned a bad team good, which is fine, but you can't ignore Belicheck every year. when they won in 2001 is the year he absolutely should have won the award, but they gave it to Jauron i believe, and then in 2003 they "had the best team" so he didn't deserve it, in 2004 they "had the best team" and people over looked all the injuries they had to over come to win it, and how hard it is to repeat, and this year, while they may get bounced in the first round, they still have a very good chance of making the AFC championship game, and they've had more injuries than anyone, and played the hardest schedule ever (as determined by the Alias sports bureau) and again, he'll be overlooked. So of course, next year, they'll "have the best team" and again he won't be considered. i just find it funny that the man is the best coach in the league, one of the greatest all time and still won't win a Coach of the Year award.

completely agree with you.
peyton doesnt deserve the award this year. peyton has been playing great but the truth is he has a supporting cast of superstars...tiki was 61% of the offense yesterday. thats insane. if the giants lost tiki they would be fucked. but in indy they still got edge, marvin, reggie, dallas, and many others to all step up. eli has not been playing well so tiki has been picking up the workload.

mike tice deserves consideration but i think bill should get it. when you lose your three best defensive players for an extended time, lose your hb for some time, lose many other players and still in line to make a run at a championship...you deserve an award.

i dont' mean to say that the guys that won it didn't deserve it, i'm just saying Bill certainly has deserved to win it at least once, or at the very least to have some strong consideration.

you guys look at MVP the way i used to.
which is NOT the way the people who vote look at it.
look itd be nice if MVP was given to the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER TO THEIR TEAM, but clearly it is not.
if it was either tiki barber or shaun alexander would win it.
but it isnt. it goes to the Best Player and we've seen that time and time again.
thus, Peytons gonna win it. I dont think he should... but hes gonna.

Tiki Barber has to overcome his own QB ....there are so many times Eli could have thrown games away and Barber has bailed him out with big games. He's right up there for the MVP in my eyes, along with Alexander and someone nobody seems to talk about anymore - Carson Palmer.

Yeah, nowadays the fact that a player is valuable to their team is only a consideration as opposed to being the basis of the award and base the award on individual statistics.

Also, Tiki gets forgotten because he doesnt really dominate games, he changes them. It seems like he could get stuffed all game long and then make a play to break the game wide open. I have, however, always considered him one of the best backs in the league because of this.

because the NFL is a team game and while Peyton's value is certainly high - they'd be a much better team without him than the Bengals would be if you took Carson away. The Colts have a much better D, a better running game, and better WRs (although Housh is making that a close matchup). The MVP shouldnt just go to the best player on the best team.
With that said, Palmer isnt the MVP. I think it's gotta be Shaun Alexander.

Manning is the offensive coordinator for his team, and he's the main reason Edge is having such a great season. He reads the defense who wants to stop the pass this year, so he audibles to the run, and Edge goes 6 yards without contact. He runs that team and has more control over his offense than any team in the league, and they're undefeated. He's the MVP again. If Alexander splits it with him, I'd be ok with that.

He was having the best season before his first injury in San Diego. He hasn't really been the same since. If he kept up that pace of 200+ yards/2 TDs/0 INTs every week, I'd definitely have him up there for MVP.

I really wonder where he'd be without Hines Ward though. I think hes a legit NFL QB ..but Hines Ward is what makes that team go in my opinion. He puts up consistent numbers regardless of who is behind center, and he blocks better than any other WR I've seen. I don't watch the Steelers on a weekly basis - I've seen around 4-5 games this season - but from what I've watched and what I've read (which is all the recaps), he's the MVP of that team.
Then again, you'd probably argue Brady isnt the Patriots MVP and I watch him every week so I know he is. Probably the same way you feel about Ben.
still_life
12/18/05, 01:43 PM
Hines Ward is the main target for sure, but Heath Miller is turning into another big target, and will get better with experience. Hines Ward didn't really do much today.
Brady is the Patriots MVP this season, but the defense has been the other years.

And Manning is more valuable because he's in control of his team.
He didn't cost them a game that was meaningless today. Many factors went into this loss, and you're just biased if you think it was one player.

i agree it was a meaningless game, and you're right, the offensive line is probably the biggest reason they lost, but he threw some pretty costly interceptions. i wouldn't hang the loss on him though, i was just trying to get under your skin.

You can't call those interceptions costly today. For one, the first INT was one of those rare ones that were completely irrelevant to the game, because they got the ball right back on a fumble. That didn't matter. As for the second, well, how did you feel about their chances of scoring a TD, recovering an onside kick, moving the ball about 40 yards and hitting a FG with no timeouts in about 90 seconds? Desperation attempt.

Did you see Reggie Wayne on that play? I never seen less effort on a play in the NFL. He literally stood there. I don't like the call at all, but Edge is a poor 4th and 1 back, and San Diego was stuffing them. I think they should have went PA pass. I don't know if Tom Moore called that one in or not, but it just didn't look right.
Still, it was similar to an old Indy game. The defense gave up two huge plays in the 4th quarter after they were in the lead. You had the 50+ yard completion to McCardell, and of course the 83 yard run to the back up RB.

the play was a hand off up the middle to edge, wayne didn't react because the play wasn't supposed to come to him, manning decided at the last second to not hand the ball to edge and keep it himself, it wasn't a fake hand off, he just didn't give it to him. wayne had no idea why manning was there or that he even had the ball, thats why he reacted the way he did.
i thought indy was going to pull it out though at the end. after the int and the fumble, i thought SD was done. even that last drive i thought indy was going to score and it was going to come down to the onside kick.

I heard two different sports stations call it a bootleg play, they never said anything about a missed handoff. I'd like to hear Dungy answer that question in a press conference. I'm sure he'll be asked about it.

it was on Sports Center, he talked about it at his press conference after the game as well. the chargers stacked the line on the right side, where the play was going, and he was already in the middle of his signals, so he snapped it and just thought he could beat them to the outside. i guess he didn't have the time to audible.
