This show was at a tiny bar which couldn't hold more than 150 people. I was really unsure of how many people would show up seeing as how it was a Tuesday night and, to my knowledge, the show wasn't really promoted too heavily. I'd say there were about 80 people there. The show was a blast, and it went like this...
Missed the first local band.
Barnacle played second. For those who don't know, they are an awesome Boston-based rock/pop group with a super hot chick singer and the drummer from Piebald, so it's tough to go wrong.
Third band, White Mountain, was local also. All instrumental. Very good. (riyl: Appleseed Cast, Hella, Explosions in the Sky)
Death In The Park (Andy from HRC's new band) played a solid set of songs off their EP as well as new tunes. I talked to their guitarist Derek, he told me the whole band was real new; it was his 7th show with the band, and the bassist's 4th. Seems like Andy's just gathering up whoever can play with him. Derek also told me they have some sweet touring opportunities this summer, and he's hoping the work out, but he couldn't tell me with who just yet. Here's to hoping to see them on the road this summer. I only knew the songs from the EP, and I caught some new titles as Andy announced them.
Death In The Park
Pitifully Exposed
(new song)
Do You Want Me Now
Sway
Fallen (full band)
(new song)
(new song) ("slow jam")
(new song)
Move To The Beat
Andy took a 20 minute break and was joined by HRC's latest bassist Joe. They both dawned acoustic guitars, claimed they really hadn't practiced anything and started jamming out. Everyone sang every lyric, and the guys seemed like they were having a lot of fun. Andy and Joe graciously accepted many beers and whiskey shots on stage. They teased a few songs, both covers (Metallica's "One") and HRC songs ("Cool For One Night"), but here is the complete setlist...
Hot Rod Circuit
Let's Go Home
At Nature's Mercy
Irish Car Bomb
Safely
Power of Vitamins
Supersad
45's
Stateside
Won't Back Down (Tom Petty cover)
Knees
Radio Song
The Pharmacist
Lastly, Andy announced he and Joe would be doing this in Amherst, MA on Thursday and Clinton, MA on Friday.
