I've never heard of cock rock but the only band I've ever owned a CD of out of these was Creed so they get my vote. I know, I know.

Because people consider them that. I don't they are that bad but I still they would be included in this grouping.

"People consider them that." What the hell does that mean? I asked how they're a cock-rock band because I'm trying to figure out what the qualifications are.

I don't think Chevelle should be grouped with the likes of Staind, Creed and Alter Bridge. Anyone who thinks that is ridiculous.

None of these bands are even remotely comparable to Chevelle.

Lol, it's okay, have a good day.

I'm not saying they necessarily ARE a "cock-rock" band. If you want to know why they are considered that ask LongDistanceDrunk.

I personallt think Chevelle is the best out of all those bands

There's no official definition of cock rock because it's a made up term, but urban dictionary.com defines it as the following:

"Derogatory term for a style of hard rock that was prevalent in the 70s, practiced in its purest form by the band Foreigner. Few bands played cock rock exclusively, but some artists with cock rock tendencies include Bad Company, Peter Frampton, Grand Funk Railroad, the Rolling Stones, Ted Nugent, John Fogerty, Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Bob Seger.

Musically, cock rock overlaps with blues rock, southern rock, hard rock, and arena rock, but what ties it all together as cock rock is an egocentric, tough-guy swagger and lots of ridiculous macho posturing. The lyrics often equate hard-rocking with virility and dangerousness".

I fail to see how Chevelle is even remotely close to this. The only modern bands I can think of that are sort of "cock rock" are probably Hinder and/or Buckcherry.

Bloodsucker II
04/30/09, 11:10 PM
LOL. The only songs I remember by them were Send The Pain Below and The Red and they are both certified cock rock trash. I remember back in school most of the wrestling team liked them because they were good workout music and they had really deep lyrics.

Hahahaha, that does make me lol. I'm not going to lie. There was a time when Chevelle was my favorite band, then again I was 13. So they have a special place in my heart. I don't think they are bad at all for radio rock though.

I mean, I personally don't see how someone would rather listen to this...

I used to be all about Staind when I was 13. Mudshovel was my jam. And that acoustic song that was popular. Then when they released the cd that got them really big is around the time I started to listen to music that isn't terrible.

Although I did see Alter Bridge play at the 2005 MLB All-Star Game in Detroit with Johnny Damon and Mike Piazza, and didn't hate it.

Out of these options: Creed.
Overall: 3 Doors Down (I'm not very familiar with the term "cock rock," but I assume they fit, and they actually have some pretty sweet songs.)

Cock rock/ nu metal bothers me more than any music imaginable. I simply despise it and literally can't stand it. Its infinitely worse than even the shittiest "music" our scene creates.

Linkin Park, POD, Creed, 3 Doors Down, etc. >>>>>>> brokeNCYDE, Millionaires, Jeffree Star, etc. No matter what anyone has against nu metal or "cock rock," which is sometimes very deserved, I have no idea how it could rationally be ranked below that kind of scene music. At least those bands can sing and play instruments, rather than just shout over beats someone in middle school could program.

I don't understand how people are ashamed to have liked any of these bands back in the day. I used to listen to almost every one of these bands back when I was a junior in high school. Alot of this music, along with other bands like blink-182 and Sum 41 were bands that pretty much everyone listened to before they found the music they like now. Even though I don't listen to most of these bands anymore, I still enjoy spinning one of their albums and remembering the time when I used to like them. I would say most people have some sort of connection with at least one of these bands.

DejaNew

I doubt that. The on;y nu metal/ cock rock album I ever listened to or owned was Infest by Papa Roach. I also had heard a few Chevelle, Nickelback, and BB songs on the radio but never heard anything past that by them
Are you saying that you never went through a phase where you listened to one of these bands? Almost everybody I know used to like at least one.

This obviously doesn't speak for everyone but from a personal standpoint, this is exactly how I am.

Before discovering the interwebz or meeting friends who liked good music, all I had was the shit I heard on the radio. I already knew that I hated rap so I chose the easiest opposite which happened to be cock rock. I thoroughly enjoyed creed, chevelle, staind and other stuff for the longest time. Then when I turned 14 or so I started finding new stuff and went from there.

So yea, I can definitely say that I do enjoy listening to cock-rock from time to time because it reminds me of my birth into a life filled with music (cheesiest thing ever, k.) Its nostalgic and I can't possible imagine everyone to share my feelings on this because we've all had different musical upbringings.
