Our best of 2005 feature will be up by the end of this week ... so this is the official last call for any bands to contact Rohan (http://www.absolutepunk.net/sendmessage.php?do=mailmember&u=41733) to have your lists included.

I'd say it's hard to compile a "best of..." because this has been a forgettable year for music. Next year needs to hurry up and get here.

Jack's Mannequin's cd will probably be the only standout from this year that I will still be listening to in 5 years.

pop-punkish music was very forgettable this year, I know that much. I have trouble making my list complete because I forget what albums came out (I have to go to my Itunes and see when I added it, etc.). I have like 7-8 albums that are in my top 10, then about 20 that try to fll the remaining spots.

yeah. mine's done, but the last few were tough.

On another note, I am listening to A Santa Cause: and the from First To Last song is impossible to comprehend. The screamer is so bad that all I hear is muddled noise, no actually words. I don't even know what the first day of Christmas brings, let alone the other 11.

Haha that's easily the worst Christmas song I've ever heard.
..and I've sat through an opera Christmas CD once. *shudders*
I though the there were a lot of good pop-punk releases. I wouldn't call many of them outstanding, butas a pop-punk fan, I wasn't dissapointed by 2005.

Just because it was a let down doesn't mean it was one of the worst records of 2005. Come on now. I was really let down by Thrice but there are soooooo many worse albums than that.

I'm not disappointed, so much as I know that next year I won't be listening to stuff from 2005. I will listen to Jacks Mannequin and TAI, and occasionally other stuff (houston calls probably) as well, but most of it will be left in 2005. 2004 brought the Midtown album, Northstar, Say Anything, three albums that even today are among my most played. 2005 wasn't disappointing as much as it was unfulfilled. It could have been an amazing year, instead it was just pretty good.

the more i think about it, the more 2005 seems average. i'll probably listen to the acceptance and mae albums for years, but not much else. maybe p!atd? i really loved chroma when it came out, but it got old real fast for me... hmm... 2005... what to make of it...

i was at bestbuy today trying to buy a cd for myself for christmas...a record that will really get to me and become a staple in my collection. i also picked up photo album by death cab, but they didn't have it, of course. then i decided that i'd just wait until the year end awards and pick up a fantastic record from 2005 that i missed.

as for records that stood out this year...thrice, nightmare of you, and jack's mannequin for me. lots of forgettable stuff this year.

Maybe I'm just casting my vote on pure talent. The fact is that there is not a single band that this site represents that is more talented that Coheed & Cambria. I ask you to name one. Sure, Good Apollo was borrowed from an older generation's music at times, but The Willing Well Suite is the most creative thing anyone's put out this year. If you disagree, you're wrong. I don't often take that stance, but so many people on this site do, and that's where the line will be drawn this time around.

Hahahaha, dude that's so ridiculous. There are so many more talented bands out there than Coheed. Now don't get me wrong, I love Coheed. IKS is one of my all time favorite albums, and I dig Good Apollo too. But Good Apollo was just a rehashing of their earlier stuff (fuck, The Suffering's chorus re-uses a melody from 3 Evils). Is Coheed creative? Yes, the story is incredible unique. But are they the most talented band around? Not even close. Go pick up a Dillinger Escape Plan record, and for more accesible music, look no further than Gatsby's American Dream for the most technical, lyrically and thematically creative pop-oriented record this year. I think it's hilarious that you said "if you disagree, you're wrong." Like you're God of all things music. Oh, and if you could actually look outside your box of music you listen to, you'd see that you're ignorant as hell.

let me throw in a joke or something before this gets ugly....ummm Jessie of Let Go tattooed the Militia Group's logo on his leg the day before it was announced the logo changed.

this was a pretty bad year as far as great music is concerned. i have to agree with the people who thought good apollo was disappointing. that cd was probably my most anticipated and then i heard it. i tried and tried to get into, but couldn't. i had to force myself to listen through the whole thing and don't get me started on the willing well's. sure they were epic, but i can't make it all the way through. overall, good apollo = most disappointing cd of the year.

this was an outstanding year for music.

i can see how someone into poppier stuff would be let down, but for hardcore/metal, this year was sweet- Black Dahlia Murder, Darkest Hour, Bury Your Dead, Through The Eyes of the Dead, Despised Icon, Seventh Star, Still Remains, not to mention Comeback Kid's Wake the Dead, an instant classic. And one more thing---Alaska.

The new Thrice album is a great album, but it just isn't Thrice. If Mogwai or Radiohead put it out, we would all be loving it.

Coheed improved on IKSSE3, but I doubt they can ever recapture the intensity of SSTB.

Motion City was also solid.

Throwdown, Haste the Day, As I Lay Dying were letdowns.

I said that this site caters to, sir. I'm hardly saying they are the best band to have ever existed. I'm not generally someone who forces their musical opinion on others, but I'm sick of all the trash Good Apollo has received from people on this site, because if you stack up any of these bands and pit them against Coheed based on sheer talent, the good majority of them would be in favor of Coheed. Honestly, the whole "I'm right, you're wrong" thing was just to get people riled up. It worked, did it not?

I thought the quote about Thrice was decent, actually - well, the first half. The second half, comparing them to the other 2 bands is way off. Radiohead would never put out a turd like Vheissu...
