Michael Jackson has reportedly defaulted on the $272 million in loans held by Fortress Investments Group, having missed his December payment of over $2 million. As a result, Fortress may foreclose and seize both Jackson’s share of Sony/ATV Publishing, which owns rights to many Beatles songs, as well as his Neverland Ranch. Though Jackson has been incommunicado while on an extended stay in the Middle East, the Daily News says Jackson’s advisers are working with Fortress to hammer out a six-month extension. Separately, another $2.2 million loan arranged by grocery mogul Ron Burkle and secured by the Jackson family’s Encino, Calif. estate is also past due. The dozen or so owners of that loan are said to not be planning to foreclose immediately, but the possibility of them doing so remains. Meanwhile, Jackson isn’t talking, even to his closest family members, according to reports.
