he's never been the player he had the potential to be. but none the less he's got a career average of 18 ppg and 7 rpg. that's not too shabby if you ask me. he's also become one of, if not the most important sixth man in the nba today. no one expected the mavericks to be as good as they are, and his offensive spark off the bench is a big reason of that. he's averaging a modest 11ppg and 5 rpg off the bench for a good mavericks team...
i think he's done alright for himself.

He plays for a team that can shoot and can't rebound. That's where his 5 rpg come from. He sucks so bad he's always open... if you can hit a jumper wide open you shouldn't be in the end. period. The Mavs are probably the second best team in the West with or without Van Horn...

as a nets fan, every game back in the days when they had him went like this:
1. Nets play great in the first three quarters
2. For some reason, Byron Scott always took out other four starters, leaving him in at the beginning of the fourth quarter
3. He misses 400000 threes, plays miserable defense, and makes the bench look worse than it is
4. Starters come back in, and a 30 point lead turns into a win by 2, a loss, or an overtime toss up.
I'm just sore about it. ESPECIALLY when he was absolutely horrendous that one year we went to the finals, when boston kept coming back in the fourth quarter and embarassing the team, all thanks to kvh, nine times out of ten, when i watched the games. uggghhhh its all coming back to me now...

that's a false statement. he's on a team that's in the top 10 in team rebounding, team points, and they're second in theam fg% only behind the spurs. if they hadnt had his 11 ppg this season, stastically they wouldnt won half of the games they have. your whole statement is false. he's one of the best role players the mavs have.

well then i wouldnt place the entire blame on KVH if your idiot coach took all the starters out but him...he couldnt do it by himself. he was in the top 20 in 3 point fg% the year they went to the finals. so i wouldnt say he missed as many as you did. and had it not been for his 15 and 7 per game...the nets probably wouldnt have even been in the finals.
like i said, he hasnt been what everyone expected...but he's had a much better nba career than alot of players have.

Or you could just try and Sportscenter once a week so that you knew what you were talking about. The sports forum is about debates, so when you come in here you have to know what you're talking about. Didn't sound like a joke at all. Just sounded like you threw around some numbers, got owned by other members, and now you're retracting by saying that it was a joke.

that's a toss up. it's hard to define who's 'better'. but if i had to pick, id probably pick nash too. he's more vital to his team than dirk is. last season when he missed those six games, the suns lost every one of those games by 10 or more. proving how vital he is to the suns.
once again it's hard to decide...but i think nash means more to his team than dirk does...he may not put up as good of stats...but i think he's more of a leader.

i couldnt have said it better, they are both great players but nash is just more valuable because he makes the players around him a lot better and a better leader, i still really like dirk and consider him one of the top players in the league too

I'm using better in the sense that I think that Dirk is a slightly better talent than Nash, everything else aside. He produces better stats, and he is more diminant of a player. I'm not taking anything away from Nash, but Dirk is "better."

when i think of better...i think of someone who is able to lead...and who is more vital to their team..for instance the suns record in 2004 was 29 and 53 with the addition of nash they were 62 and 20. their offense went from the 22nd ranked offense in the leauge in 2004 to the first ranked offense in 2005. nash also helped them improve their defense, moving from 23rd to 17th. and also with the addition of nash they went from not making the playoffs in 2004 to making the western conference finals.
i think those stats show that nash is a better player, going by overall performance.
another interesting stat is that in 2004...is the mavericks offense was rated #1 but with the subtraction of nash in 2005, they moved to #4.

nah, I had no intention of meaning anything by my statement. To say the sports forum is about debates is an off statement. Most of its making fun of players (which I've seen alot) or posting something that happened. There are the occasional debates. I didnt throw around numbers either. I used the same number caleb did, my friend. I don't know Van Horn's stats and when I said he was sucking ass I was again joking. The only part in my statement I meant was the fact that you have to be able to knock down open shots, that's a given. I know plenty about sports, just not much about Keith Van Horn and his career stats since he's always been an Antonie Walker type that make me want to rake my eyes out. Van Horn can rebound, can score, and can throw up some of the stupidest shots I've ever seen.

nobody said they had to be American, just non-european. By the way, Nick Collison is sucking as of late.
reggie evans overplays too much, causing him to get beat on the dribble, and when nick has to help, he gets called for a foul

That's not it at all, but ok. Nick Collison is turning out to be a very mediocre basketball players. He is missing wide open jumpers on the baseline far more than he should. Often he doesn't even get enough arc on his shot to get it in. He's been flat-footed and his hustle is way down from what it was last year.

i don't see a lot of confidence in the Sonics...Nick Collison has been working out his jumper but it has still been inconsistent...still, i'd rather have him in the game than potapenko

Me too. I just don't think Collison is all that great of a player.

he's a good role player who's in his 2nd year...he's developed faster than a lot of players

i'm not saying he will be...i'm just saying he's the type of player that many teams would kill for...a solid role player who's a hard worker and a good teammate
i would like to see how he does along side a real big man who is not named james, potapenko, swift, or mikki

Well, he said no Europeans and since the NBA is mostly black and European I really couldn't think of any really great white players. So I just picked two random ones.
how about best all time white player larry bird, not steve kerr

Now THAT was a joke. If I was being serious I might have said Kevin McHale or Larry Bird. But that was a joke. I made a Steve Kerr being the best player on the Bulls joke in another thread too.
