Its not nearly as violent as your typical war movie, or even most action movies (I'm looking at you Sly).....but the violence in Oldboy is a little more harsh
And it has one of the greatesy, yet most fucked up endings you could imagine.
One of my top 5 movies ever I think...top 10 for sure.

Heard this is good. Had a friend be like, WATCH IT WATCH IT WATCH IT. He also told me to watch Battle Royale.
He likes violence. It's kinda scary how many movies we've talked about that revolve around that.
But uh, yeah. This movie = on my list.

I guess, but I'm sure it's 100x better without knowing the fucking ending.

20 minutes left in the movie and my computer starts being retarded, to the point where i can't watch more than 15 seconds without it freezing for a while. fffffuuuuuuuu

I have the Collectors edition that looks like Band of Brothers for 15 bucks from a friend that needed money for drugs. I enjoy the trilogy but I feel like this one is the most cinematic and interesting overall.

fortunately i was able to get my computer running normally and i just finished it. phenomenal. i did not see the final twist coming at all. the last two scenes felt superfluous though, i was hoping it would end after woo-jin killed himself

Disturbing movie, but a brilliant plot, shows the potential of Asian cinema.
Disturbing, though.

Mr. > Lady > Old
Though my opinion seems to be in the strict minority.
Most people say Old > Mr. > Lady.

I switch back and forth between Mr. and Lady but I will agree with you that I do like them both more than Oldboy. I also figured most people preferred Lady to Mr.? Though, to be honest, I don't know many that have seen the trilogy.

I thought Battle Royale was the first movie that anyone getting into new asian cinema watched. Can't believe that some of you haven't seen it, I remember kids talking about it in high school.

My roommate. We watch a few of the same TV shows (yes I know this show is probably stupid) but with like Make It or Break It... last week she was like "did you watch it yet?" and I was like "no" and she goes "Oh well, Peyson falls in with the wrong crowd who asks her to smoke weed etc etc etc"... like SERIOUSLY.. did you really just tell me what ahppens on a show I clearly stated I did not watch yet.
when I suggest a movie to someone, I am sure to be like IT'S FUCKED UP or IT'S SO GOOD .. just TRUST me and watch it... why would you give away what happens!!!

Well it's not like there's wide recognition for it in mainstream Western media, as far as I know. At least, that's the general image most Koreans have when they think of their movies. Such was the general consensus I was told during my visit there.
Quite a few people like it, but it's more of a cult following thing, hence why I say potential.

Such a great film, one of my favourites.
Can't believe I heard that Hollywood are going to be re-making this with Will Smith as the potential lead? Think somebody on here told me that, such bullshit. Unimaginative ol' Hollywood once again.

Oh good, although it will just be another awesome Asian/Foreign film they snap up to re-make next.
edit: Just looking at your avatar, I got Dead Man yesterday, gonna sit down and watch it tomorrow, can't wait. Also got The Brave, on a Depp binge.

Him and Stephen Spielberg were trying to do an adaptation of the manga, which had a completely different end and different characters. Even if it was made, it would still have nothing on this movie.

I know there's quite a bit of love on here of Oldboy, but have you guys seen the rest of his filmography. It's fantastic. The whole Revenge Trilogy is great, but JSA and Thirst are probably my favorites.

I haven't seen thirst yet, but from what I hear, it returns the badassness of the vampire genre.
