I'm loving it to death. It's so great.
I've always loved A Capella, and two of the songs are from my mom's alma mater, though, so I'm a little biased.

I will listen asap.
Seeing this thread is a little deja vu for me after i saw a story about ben folds on cnn this morning, then coming on here and seeing a new thread makes it all the better.

These lyrics make me tear up every time:
Everybody knows it hurts to grow up
And everybody does
It's so weird to be back here
Let me tell you what:
The years go on and
We're still fighting it, we're still fighting it
And you're so much like me-
I'm sorry.

I've liked Ben Folds since I was in high school which was a while ago for me. Everything he touches usually turns out decent. The A Cappella album is pretty cool.

I picked up Way to Normal recently and was kind of disappointed. It wasn't as catchy as the 5 tracks I'd heard led me to believe it was.
Though, the prepared piano on Free Coffee is really effing cool.

Way To Normal gets a bad rep- I really feel that it's his best solo record. So much originality (at least as far as he's concerned) and so much new.

I don't think it was awful, just, most of the tracks didn't live up to the couple I'd previewed. I mean, I'd already heard the best songs before I grabbed it, so the rest disappointed me.

The first time I saw him, I just got lucky, and security handed out backstage passes to everyone in like the front 10 rows. Pretty awesome.
I haven't talked to anyone I know on here in forever. I'm pretty good, too. Nervous about college and shit, but it's life. High school is coming to a close pretty nicely, can't complain.

Am I the only person who doesn't really like Reinhold Messner? I would go Whatever and Ever Amen>Rockin' the Suburbs>Ben Folds Five>Songs For Silverman>Way to Normal>Supersunnyspeedgraphic>Reinhold Messner for myself. I really miss the days when he toured with just himself and a piano and played whatever song was yelled the loudest. I saw that show at the Electric Factory in Philly about 7 years ago and it was so much fun. I remember someone yelling for Underground and he said, "Just remember, I don't sing that whole song so you guys are really gonna have to help me!" So much fun.

I think the A Cappella album is a really cool idea. I mean, if you think about it, you have groups like doing all sorts of songs by all sorts of artists all the time, but they just aren't that widely heard. Some of the takes on this album are awful, but there are also some really cool arrangements.

I used to not like Reinhold at all. Granted, I like it less than the other two BFF albums, but it grew on me a lot. It's a very calm album. I only really listen to it when I'm in a certain place in my mind.

best album to start with??
well, there are two schools of ben folds- both similar, but different enough to be thought of in separate categories:
ben folds five was his outfit with his first three releases (self titled; whatever and ever, amen; and the unauthorized biography of reinhold messner) and it is usually a bit jazzier. his solo stuff has seen his three latest releases (rockin' the suburbs; songs for silverman; way to normal), including several EP's. my order for getting into him would go like this:
whatever and ever, amen or rocking the suburbs; reinhold messmer and ben folds five; then songs for silverman.
way to normal is kind of a mess, but some really good songs are on there. try effington, kylie from connecticut, and hiroshima from that album.
ben folds is one of my 5 favorite people in music.

saw him at bogarts here in cinci last week. ben folds has put on two of the top 5 shows i've ever seen. he was hilarious, his group was improving everything- we saw covers of ke$ha and an impromptu johnny cash cover per request. the new songs sounded great, especially doc pomus and picture window. i never had much of an opinion on ben folds until i saw him in dayton last spring (my girlfriend was a huge fan), and i've loved him ever since.

There is not one mediocre track on Rockin' The Suburbs. Some of the harmonies absolutely blow my mind, especially on 'Fred Jones, Pt. 2' and 'Ascent Of Stan.'

Completely agree. Love Hornby, obviously love Folds, but it just didn't work. The musical experimentation didn't work as well as it did on Way To Normal, either, in my opinion.

It worked just as well, seeing as 5-7 of the tracks on Way To Normal are fantastic. He hasn't had a 100% great album since Rockin'.

I've never been a fan of 'Jesusland,' half of 'Give Judy My Notice,' (the way the chords don't resolve like, at all, is one of the very few times I've disagreed with his arrangement choices), and 'Prison Food.' Otherwise, yeah, it's a great, great record. His voice is just angelic, man. I can't get enough of it. He has that voice that sounds like he's singing the song for you, and to you. 'Still Fighting It' feels like it was written for me after graduating high school.

Apparently on his new release, Best Imitation of Myself, in addition to all of his old stuff there are a couple new BFF songs that were recorded this year. I'm still yet to check them out, but I'm hoping they live up to the old BFF.

The totally new BF5 songs are great (Home in particular is a full on fantastic song, Stumbling Home Winter Blues is a gentle little song but it has a lot of charm) and the new recordings of unreleased old BF5 songs (especially Amelia Bright) are... well I've been waiting for them to emerge for years and was not at all disappointed. Very, VERY high hopes for the full BF5 reunion album.
