Bands like The Dangerous Summer and Valencia remind me that pop-punk can still be done right. Does anyone have any recs for other pop punk bands that are actually good?

I don't know if these guys qualify as "pop punk" or not, but you should all check out a band called Single File. Their hooks are ridiculous. Check out their song called "Girlfriends" and try not to get that thing stuck in your head!

I second the Wonder Years and The Descendents. Also like to add You, Me, And Everyone We Know. More pop than punk, but catchy as hell with solid lyrics. Plus you can download their ep for free on their myspace.

Oh god. You, Me, and Everyone We Know are one of my faves. I love those guys. Such a shame they're unsigned.

on the more punky side, obviously the Descendents, also Teenage Bottlerockets, Shook Ones, Broadway Calls, Set Your Goals and The Ergs are pretty good choices, and for newer poppier stuff, A Loss For Words and This Time Next Year are good too. also check out the new Fireworks album. it finally clicked and is turning out to be a great summer album. good mixture of NFG and Valencia. good stuff

Yeah I love them too. I want to see them live really badly. And they should definetly be signed, but I also get the feeling they don't really care.

Surprised they haven't been said yet, The Years Gone By. Such a solid band and totally nice guys. I'd also give Freshaman 15 a shot. Very 2001-esque pop punk.

Nice! These guys are good friends from home who I used to play with. I'm glad people are catching on.
As far as good pop punk goes, Hit The Lights is doing decent work. Ellegarden from Japan is good, though they are on hiatus. Early All Time Low is solid. NFG's new cd is good. I don't know, there's not a lot of really quality pop-punk going around these days. Look at the earlier part of the decade for the stuff that's worthwhile. Try Homegrown's Kings of Pop for something a little less well known. The Movielife's Forty Hour Train To Penn, too. And the first 3 Ataris cds, before So Long, Astoria.
You'll probably like my friend's band, Scenic Attraction.
http://www.purevolume.com/scenicattraction is their older FOB inspired stuff, http://www.myspace.com/scenicattraction is their newer more alternative stuff. Unfortunately, they broke up last year, but they're still a quality pop-punk band.
pretty much everything mentioned in here
and lately I've been enjoying Dropout Year (http://www.myspace.com/dropoutyear), Valet Parking (http://www.myspace.com/valetparking), and With the Punches (http://www.myspace.com/withthepunches).

Eh, that's the thing. They released an EP a little while back, but it was pretty much just them burning their songs onto CDs. Unless you live in Doylestown, PA, you wont have that much luck buying their stuff. Also, I'm pretty sure there isn't anything on mediashare or those kinda sites. For now just listen to the stuff on their myspace/purevolume. As for the future, they are recording an EP as we speak, with better quality versions of their old songs (Afterall, Paper Thin, Runaway.) This summer they are recording another EP with new songs, with the same guys that recorded Balance and Composure's "I Just Want To Be Pure," so expect that to be orderable (if that's a word) when it's released.
