Which band is your favorite?

GOOD. I was hoping for this matching. It felt a little unfair having them both in at once.
That said, Jack's.

Oh well. I'll change my vote then.

Fuck. Like someone said, Konstantine.
But on the other hand, Caves.

I voted for Soco but I'm not so sure now. When I compare Leaving Through the Window with Everything in Transit, I'll take EIT any day. I don't even understand how a person with the talent Andrew has wrote songs like I kissed a Drunk Girl, Punk Rock Princess and If You C Jordan. Comparing North with The Glass Passenger is really fucking hard. North is one of my all time favorite records and has some of my favorite work Andrew has done. However the same applies to The Glass Passenger and I think that Caves, Swim, and Hammers and Strings are insanely good. I think I'd change my vote to Jacks.

Yayy for Andrew in the elite 8!

Wow. At least say North. The Glass Passenger is better lyrically, sonically and vocally than Leaving Through the Window. With the exception of a few songs (Cavanaugh Park, Globes and Maps, I woke Up in a Car, Fall) Leaving Through the Window really is not that good.

I have so much history behind Leaving Through the Window and I love that album so much more than North. The Glass Passenger, to me, was a huge disappointment. Though vocally and instrumentally it was better, Leaving Through the Window holds higher for me. While North has it's good tracks, I still enjoy LTTW more. And more than just those songs you've listed, there's The Astronaut, If You See Jordan, Straw Dog, Drunk Girl, You're Gone. Hell I think the only song off LTTW I didn't enjoy was Good News.

I think even Andrew would acknowledge that these songs are not good (along with Punk Rock Princess). I used to love the album and those songs when I was younger too, but I go back to them and they're just not very good. I compare Leaving Through the Window with Everything in Transit because they're his poppier sounding albums (and first with each band) and I say Everything in Transit is far better. North and The Glass Passenger are much harder for me to compare but I think between Swim, Hammers and Strings, The Resolution and Caves I'd have to say that he created his most diverse and ambitious album ever.

I want to hear your opinion on the Soco Jacks one.
Something Corporate over Jack's. I love Jack's Mannequin, some of those songs mean the world to me, but Something Corporate was basically the soundtrack (along with a few other albums) for my life awhile back. The albums were a bit more consistent, and honestly I would have to say that Konstantine is arguably the most scene defining song for people who were around in those days. So many people have memories attached to that song, and I can't think of anything else that really comes close to doing what that song does.
Both great bands with lots of great songs, but the nostalgia wins me over.

I have a long history with SoCo...that being said Andrew's matured so much since those days. I have to go with Jack's
Its like picking between Jesus and God! FUCK!
Haha. I agree. I put Itunes on shuffle and whichever song came up first won. SoCo it is.

Went with SoCo, mostly on the account that I've never heard a Jack's Mannequin song all the way through.
One word, Konstantine.
you just completely destroyed and chances JM had of winning this.
ha.

Haha, great analogy.
I think TGP is a nearly perfect record, but I don't know if I can vote against SoCo.
This is a tight one!
Love both, but I voted for Jack's

Jack's. I think Everything In Transit is a solid pop album, but the rest of his stuff, SoCo included, has been pretty hit and miss with me(I should add that I have no nostalgic attachment to SoCo).

God, this is hard. I went with SoCo just because they have been my favorite band for a long time. I do love Jack's, though, so I'll be happy either way.

Something Corporate.
This band was one of my favorite bands in High School. I remember showing all of my friends 'Konstantine' because I thought it was the greatest song ever at the time.
airik625
05/04/09, 09:01 AM
Though I still think The Glass Passenger is Andrew's most mature and best work to date.
Jack's Mannequin is on a totally different level than Something Corporate, especially live. Andrew's songwriting for JM is generally miles above what he did with Something Corporate.
Both bands are great, and both bands have great songs, but JM has to win in the end. The live performance is the clincher.

i spent ten minutes trying to decide what to write here, going back and forth between jacks and soco like 20 times. bottom line, i cannot pick one over the other. at all. maybe later...

05/04/09, 09:16 AM
ok, got it. (that was fast).
i went with jm. soco is great, but it just doesn't feel up to par with jack's... leaving through the window is one of my favorite albums EVER, but jack's just seems better... the songs are more interesting lyrically and musically, i think. but for all i know, i could be taking this back in an hour. hmm...

05/04/09, 09:39 AM
 Good one!
...oh wait, are you actually being serious here??
i'm serious when i say that i think Konstantine is pretty overrated compared to other songs Andrew has written, and that Caves is at least a much better written song. even though the vocals in the first half aren't his strongest, it builds up great, unlike Konstantine.
Globes and Maps > Konstantine > Caves
Globes and Maps is probably one of their most underrated songs.

Seriously tough call though. Leaving Through The Window is probably my favourite album of everything Andy's been involved with.

I really think SoCo is winning just because of the nostalgia factor for some people, sorry.
Don't get me wrong I like some SoCo stuff, but I don't think they've written anything quite as good as Everything In Transit.

Something Corporate for me, pretty straight-forward. Both are good though.

I wasn't around for their prime, so there was no nostalgia factor in my vote. I think North and LTTW are much more consistent than EIT and TGP. And Noth has grown to be one of my favourite albums.

Fair enough. I do like a good amount of SoCo songs, just not as much as I love some of JM's stuff.
