Ang Lee. He did a great job with Brokeback Mountain, showing that he is capable of creating great films and not just The Hulk. I think Brokeback is going to clean up at awards shows, or at least hope so.

Ron Howard, Cinderella Man?

meh, I love me some Tim Burton, but this was not his best year overall. The Corpse Bride was too short to be incredible.

Yeah, I agree with you there. I wanted to give it to Judd Apatow, becuase he did such an excellent job tip-toeing that line between hilarious and childish with the 40-Year Old Virgin.

it may have been short, but the level of work involved is certainly worth at least a nomination on here. matthew vaughn, chan-wook park and spielberg/wotw should be up there too. this is a tough one, i'll have to think about it more.

I don't know how you can't go with Fernando Meirelles, his vision shined through the Constant Gardener more than most any director I've ever seen this year. That's a big modifier that I needed to include.

Nolan or Jackson. Nolan perfectly captured the essence of Gotham City's dark beauty, but King Kong was visually stunning. I voted for Nolan.
