View Full Version : Sounds like Taking Back Sunday's Tell All Your Friends?

I've been a Taking Back Sunday fan since they came out with their debut Tell All Your Friends. However, this is truly the only album which i feel is unique. Are there any bands that sound like this album?

You want to find a band that sounds like the album that is the only one that is unique to you? Huh?

I am just confused, well... maybe you should look into anyone influenced by TBS?

you and your andy hull avatar would know plenty of specific recs in that department. MO are a FAR more overrated indie-rock band than TAYF is an overrated pop-punk album.

Gonna have to agree with you on MO. I think ILAVLAC is an amazing album, but METN is pretty weak for the most part.

TAYF is one of my favourite albums, just the way people talk about it here you'd think it was the epitome of all music.

They're Only Chasing Safety is a bit heavier, but still sounds very much like TAYF. It's most obvious on "Boy Brushed Red," "Reinventing Your Exit," and "I'm Content With Losing."

preferring underoath to tbs doesn't make a person stupid - it's my personal opinion. you can disagree, but there's no need to be a dick.

It's near fact that TAYF, or anything that TBS has done, is better than any of that bullshit Christian 'metalcore' that is Underoath. Never say that an Underoath album is similar to TAYF, but better. Because there's no need to be a dick.

lonelysuperstar
05/12/09, 09:08 PM
Ok, now you're the one who sounds stupid. TAYF was good, but even TBS fans agree that they've since become incredibly shit and are just rehashing everything they've done before. Underoath, on the other hand, have progressed with each album - in my opinion, their latest album dominates anything that TBS has done. You don't like Christian metalcore? Fair enough. But I'm not the only person in this thread who thinks TOCS is similar to TAYF. Now let's stop ruining this thread with this petty argument.

I thought the album was at least 2 times better.

The album had way too much shine on it.. Way too much sounding like every other band in the scene and really boring and generic.

I dont know why but the E.P just sticks out to me, there are 4 really well written songs on it, and they sound great too with not too much production done to it, they sound like a real band on it.

I have to say that the garage/DIY sound they had on their EP just didn't work for them. They also utilized their two vocalists better in the full length.

The EP does have my favorite song by them (Three Cheers). I certainly won't mind it if they went back to this harder style for their next full length.

Exactly!!

The album is just way too pop sounding for my liking.

One Man Drinking Games
Three Cheers
The Last Something That Meant Anything
Just Say You're Not Into It.

all four of those tracks stand head and shoulders above anything on the album for me.

I think I'd enjoy the next album if they got back to that kind of sound

If they could combine the melodies of the album and with the rawness of the EP, I would end up liking the new album more than ALIR and the EP. Lyrically though, they might have a problem since they kicked out the one who wrote almost all of their lyrics.

Nothing that Underoath has done has been close to even touching Taking Back Sunday, let alone Tell All Your Friends.

Its nothing alike. Why are you guys saying it is?
Just because it has Aaron and Spencer screaming/singing, that isn't enough for it to be similar. All post-hardcore bands do that.

Similar would be Brand New's debut album Favorite Weapon

It's a slow song, similar to Miserable At Best, although it was just the singer playing an acoustic guitar. It's certainly better than all this vocoder crap that's everywhere these days.
