View Full Version : Any Weird Holiday Traditions?

I just wanted to personally wish everyone a happy holiday and apologize to those who have been trying to have news posted through me. It's been very tough this past week with the holidays and my grandma's recent visit to the hospital. Expect more out of me when the weekend closes out. On a completely different note, and out of curiosity, what kind of holiday traditions exist in your family?

I have younger siblings and since "Santa" doesnt visit them any more since theyre too old for it they make everyone stay up until midnight to open presents then go to bed. Kinda stupid. I tried to go to sleep this year and they wouldnt let me

We go see a movie on Christmas Eve
We go to my grandmother's for Christmas Breakfast which is the shit because my mom makes some sort of egg, cheese, bacon, and sausage casserole which she only makes once a year (which pisses me off) since its the only time I ever eat breakfast.

THE PICKLE...my mom hides a plastic pickle in the tree xmas morning then the 4 of us boys try to look for it. the person who finds it gets a best buy gift card..last year we all found it at once and it broke...so this year we have a new one...i'm getting pumped..i'm gonna win this year...is that just me?
We go to kansas city to my aunts house for a christmas eve party, then back home to sleep (and wrap last minute gifts). I have 3 older brothers who all live far away (Boston, San Fran, New york city)...and this is the only time of the year when all 6 of our family members are together. it's wonderful

Wow, I've never met anyone who does that too. We do the same thing, except its not plastic but glass, which makes the whole thing a little more dangerous. And I never win. I'm not sure if we're doing it this year, though.

table tennis, wrestling, and shooting the dog.
A new tradition was started. My aunt was given a tub of 72 little rubber ninjas. (dont ask, its just better to accept it as is. She also for a hunping animatronic dog and a farting teddy bear). Before we left he hid 71 of the ninjas all over her house. She probably wont find most of them until she moves out.

christmas eve, we always have a fancy dinner, just my family (mom, dad, sister, me). We usually have fish, but last night I wanted to have FiletMignon, so we decided to have that.
and then christmas morning, we usually get up at some ungodly hour (my sister is still a santa fan), this year being 7:30am. we then open presents and then have sticky buns (my mom's amazing recipe). we then usually sleep, I just woke up from a 3 hour snooze, then we go to my aunt & uncles house to meet with my grandparents and aunt/uncle.
happy holidays everyone.

My older brother usually wakes me up at like 6 am by jumping on my water bed so it's like a wavepool. Then, we wait like an hour for my parents to get up & get the videocamera. ugh.
Then we go downstairs & open our presents.
Then, usually, my aunt, uncle, & both sets of grandparents come over for breakfast. But, this year, my grandfather died, my other grandfather got his leg amputated, my grandmom just got out of the hospital, & my other grandmother is still mourning my grandfather.
So, let's just say today wasn't really a normal christmas.

We don't have anything odd except we open presents Christmas eve at like eight. (I never got to believe the whole santa thing, something about my dad saying he'd "kill" any dude that dropped down the chimeny...) and stockings (usually candy) christmas morning. Thats it.
