I'm going to buy a Boss DD-5 delay pedal and it has the option for an external tap tempo footswitch. I'm going to buy a Boss fotswitch because I really trust their products but I don't know the difference between a latching and non-latching footswitch. I want to know the difference so I don't buy the wrong one.

Can someone help me out?

Latched means it clicks on and clicks off. Unlatched means it's on when your foot is on it and off the rest of the time. For the tap-tempo you need an unlatched switch. I think the Boss model is called FS-5U.

Why not just buy the DD-6 that already has built in tap tempo or look at a Line 6 DL-4. Those DL-4 pedals are awesome and they have up to 28 seconds of loop where the DD-6 only has like 5 seconds.

The DD-5 is a great pedal, but if you're looking for tap tempo, I really would consider of those other ones.

I absolutely love the DL4, my band's guitarist has one and that thing is incredible but the main concern is price. I'm trying to find a used pedal on Craig's List so the price will be lower. Also, I'm a bass player so I don't know how many features of the DL4 I'd actually need or use. I've heard that the DD-5 is just really compatible with bass but I'll look into the DD-6. Thanks for the tip

As a user of a DD5, DL4 and past user of a DD6 I urge you to not use the DD6. I believe they don't make it anymore and have started making the DD7 which has the external tap feature added again. Using the tap tempo that was built into the DD6 was not very easy to do on the fly. I think it was a poor feature, but a good idea. The tap tempo on the Line 6 tone core pedals like the tremelo and the echo park delay one works a bit better, but still is a bit unstable in my opinion. The tap tempo on the DL4 however is great and easy.

I use the DL4 in my guitar rig setup for my delays and love it.

I might look into the DD7 if need be but I have been using my DD5 for years. I however use it in a signal in my vocal path so I am able to tap in my own vocal delay tempo's and trigger it when I want it on.

Hope this helps.
