...is a real boy. No wait. Actually he is just a phenomenal sports writer with a very different but absolutely hilarious perspective.
I had chosen to stay away and simply read AbsolutePunk every day but I'm taking the sports related forum by storm, and if I am doing that, I must suggest Bill Simmons to you. Do yourself a favor and pick up Now I Can Die In Peace at any local bookstore

and for some reason I didn't mention where you can read most of his articles.

Thank you for supporting my ignorance.

four years ago bill simmons was a nobody. and he's still on page 2 at espn. he just recently put out his first book. and this is so obvious?
and even if it is obvious, just because you heard of him four years ago does not mean that everyone else has.
and he deserves any more positive recognition he can get, regardless if it's been done.
and thanks for trying to be funny too. that worked out well.

if you get ESPN the Magazine, you've heard of Bill Simmons. He used to have his own page in every single issue.

I had ESPN the Magazine for a few months on a trial but cancelled it. Can't compete with SI or The Sporting News. But I also don't put much stock into sports magazines in the first place, so that's my fault in the first place for not knowing.

ESPN is so much better than TSN or SI.

I just prefer TSN for its indepth statistics if nothing else. I am a stat geek, so that's probably bias. ESPN just never impressed me that much, didn't have the dynamic.

uhh yeah, nice try but simmons archives on espn definitely stem back further than 2002 so he wasnt a "nobody" 4 years ago.
nobody would be when his started his bostonsportsguy.com originally, BEFORE espn discovered him and hooked him up with a job.
and my shot wasnt an attempt at humour, but nice try. im just informing you that ya aint breaking a news story by singing Simmons' praises and i dont know why you would ever assume you wouldve been.

okay, i was not trying to "break a news story". if the guy has an espn page, nothing needs to be broken. please don't try to pin that on me.
and yeah, maybe he was writing in 2002, but that doesn't mean he had all kinds of recognition either. apparently we have different opinions of how you can "make it" as a sportswriter. i still dont think he has. or is very close.

He's been writing columns for ESPN for over half a decade now. He had a featured spot in their magazine, he has commercials for his book aired during prime time on national television, and if you go to the front page of ESPN.com, he has his own link. How has he not "made it"?
He's the only sportswriter that can reference The Karate Kid in just about any column, and have it make sense. Because of that, as well as the fact that he is from the Boston area, he has my respect.

wait he has commercials about his book? when did this happen?

Every commercial break on ESPN for the last three months.

i watch espn every day and i have never seen a commercial for his book...maybe it's placement, i don't know. and i would still say he hasn't made it because he writes for an website's secondary page. even if it is ESPN. this is too obviously differing opinions, we're not gonna get anywhere on this one.
I haven't seen the commercials in awhile. I remember seeing them during PTI and ATH a few times back when the book was first released though.

i know he's a boston guy ..but i really dont see the fuss. I'd take Jim Caple over him anyday.
