With the growing popularity of Twitter, many bands have jumped on the bandwagon and used it to connect with their fans but lately there has been drama between certain frontmen and Jason Tate / the AP.net community.
I am a TBS fan but the recent online scuffle between Adam Lazarra and Jason Tate has really caused me to look down upon Adam and TBS, not necessarily their music but their general attitude. Also, I regarded Emarosa's Jonny Craig as one of the most talented vocalists of today but as he puts his personal opinions on display I'm increasingly losing respect for him. He's still a very talented individual but I can't hold him at such a high regard anymore. But that's just me.
Do you feel that Twitter has had more of a positive or negative effect on the relationships between band members and their fans?

Neutral, because I am a 52 year old man and don't know what Twitter is.

Jonny IS the best vocalist around but I agree, his schtick is ruining it and it's becoming hard for me to defend him on here.
i seem to have missed pretty much all of that. i have no idea as to whats going on

Basically, Jason and Adam have some beef from a few years back because TBS was being dumb during an interview and Adam refuses to let it go and decided to call Jason a "ragmag mogul" on twitter, causing an online argument.
And Jonny Craig criticized the new As Cities Burn album on his twitter, Jason made it a news post on AP.net and people commented on how Jonny was a douche and then Jonny posted another thing on twitter saying:
"Hahahahaa ap net is like that pussy ass show the hills haha it's all fake and I'm always gonna be on the rise :)"
Thats basically the gist of it. Anyone feel free to correct me if needed

thanks man. this doesnt really surprise me. from what ive gathered this seems to be pretty standard for adam.
as i am now informed i feel i can answer the poll question.
i think it would have both effects depending on what was being said and the opinions of those reading it.

It really depends. First, let me make a distinction between band twitters and the personal twitters of band members because they're completely different. I personally enjoy reading a few band twitters, but not the twitters of the band members as much. I like Minus the Bear's twitter because they update on the recording process. Twitter makes it easier to get news. On the other hand, I think some front-men and band members are definitely over-using twitter. IMO, sometimes the fact that they're even using twitter just makes them seem self-important and really arrogant. Seriously, do they think they're that great that everyone wants to know what they're doing 24/7? And then to start internet drama through twitter? But I guess some fans want to know what their favorite people are up to.

Positive- Mark Hoppus is even cooler Negative- The stupid beef with TBS
I don't follow any of this Twitter nonsense. Except the occasional check in with Mark.

I haven't had any negative effects from it yet, but i'm not following many bands. But yea it does always suck to find out artists you like are assholes. The only thing twitter changes is perhaps more people will realize they're assholes sooner.

This is an interresting question, seeing how Tate has spewed his personal opinions about "certain band members on twitter" and claimed that it was not said here on this site, yet later it becomes a topic, should this not also expanded to included on line mags such as ap.net, perhaps music industry in general.
Since you brought up TBS surely your not niave enough to think there aren't two sides to every story.
Twitter is another means of on-line communication, why then, would it be any different to convey news, promotion, and just (as usual) bullshite in general

True, some of the posts made by band members can be over the top, but at the same time a lot of it is being egged on by members posting on this site. People can only take so much criticism before they begin defending themselves and fighting back.
I think boysandbulletsx pretty much hit the nail right on the head by making the distinction between bands and band members

Twitter is bullshit, IMO, and it shouldn't have any effect on music or bands, but it seems to push and pull in both directions.

I'm asking if Twitter affects your view of a band member / band. Not what Jason Tate decides to do on Twitter.
I'm also not denying the fact that there are two sides to the story, I was commenting on the fact that Adam's immaturity while handling the issue made me lose respect for him

then my answer is NO it doesn't effect my views about a particular band/member, especially if it is in defense of some uninformed judgement or outright attack on the band/member.
I disagree, Adam handled it brilliantly, especially in the fact that he is completely correct.

I'm curious. How many people would even know about twiiter's that bands/ members make if it was JUST posted on twitter.

More positive than negative. Just look at what Jimmy Eat World single-handidly did with theirs. Posting live feeds from practice, unreleased live mp3's....i love it

Depends on the Twitter and the band. I've seen it affect people in both directions.

Really? Like, honestly? I thought he handled that way better than Jason. It was all pretty funny though.

Negative. Twitter is fucking stupid.

I personally find it as a positive thing. Jimmy Eat World has utilized Twitter the way every band should. Brodcasting rehearsals for their tour, having fans play scavenger hunt games to get band merch or tickets.
Anyone who thinks Twitter is lame or that people who use Twitter are just attention whores is just frightened of something they don't understand. So they react with the normal human response to something they don't understand....they hate on it.

It depends on what they post, obviously, but for the most part I think it's positive because it furthers the connection between a band and its fans.

From my experience it's mainly positive. As people have mentioned before, Mark Hoppus and Jimmy Eat World. Additionally, the stuff Trent Reznor has been doing for Nine Inch Nails has helped boosted my respect for him and the band.
However, there are still plenty of bands out there who abuse twitter. I can't think of people specifically, but that's cause I purposely don't follow people who tend to annoy me.

well, it depends on what the band is saying...

I agree... for the most part it can be a useful tool to connect. However, for those of us who don't use Twitter, it doesn't have any effect. For example, I have no clue what this TBS/Jason Tate beef is all about.

Positive. I think bands having a twitter is sweet but anyone else seems unnecessary to me.
Im going to have to say both just because like anything else in the world, it can be abused to a point making it bad. Some bands have used it positivly and some negatiivly and some just use it to use it with no affect(effect?) on them. I think its both, but a more specific poll for a specific band would give better results.

This. It's totally up to the band to make it a positive thing.
And it's effect.

Both. Because i have seen bands be total assholes and post something like every ten minutes telling you to buy their new ep or go buy merch and then i have also seen bands really connect with their fans.
