Watchmen vs. Akira

Both Watchmen and Akira are considered to be the 2 greatest graphic novels of all time. Which do you like better?

I've never gotten the chance to read Akira, but I've only heard good things. Seeing as I haven't read it though, I'll have to vote Watchmen.

Really? I've read both. I gotta say, while Watchmen is pretty amazing (not to mention easily attainable), Akira is pretty damn epic, and if you find all 6 volumes, I suggest you get it. I heard there's gonna be a live action American adaptation (which I may or may not be excited about), so I'm assuming that the manga volumes are gonna be re-released, but I have the Dark Horse versions that took me months to track down, and I must say, quite worth it.

I've been wanting to read Akira for a while. I liked the movie, I hear the novel is way crazier

oh, we're talking graphic novels? i've only seen the akira movie, and i heard the watchmen movie sucked, so i voted akira. but anyway, i tend to dislike the american styled artwork in graphic novels, maybe because i'm so used to manga.

Watchmen is a classic. The story, artwork, characters... Everything about it is amazing. I've been growing out of comic books very rapidly over the past two years, but I will love Watchmen for years to come. I've never read Akira, so I can't judge it, but I highly doubt that it's as gorgeous (and ugly) of a social commentary.
