View Full Version : If you were the Pacers, would you take Bowen for Artest?

I was on Jetblue today watching ESPNews so i had quite a while to think about the situation.
I figured the best possible scenario for Indiana would be swapping Bruce Bowen for Ron Artest.
The Pacers are 6-3 without Ron, so it doesnt seem like they are missing him TOO much (i didnt look at WHO they beat, so I could be wrong), and Bowen would give them the shutdown guy they would need if they are gonna lose Artest.
What do you think? The Pacers obviously arent gonna get equal value for Artest so I thought this would be a best case scenario for them.

That would be a great trade for the Pacers, but terrible for the Spurs too. The Spurs wouldn't be the same.

the spurs would never ever do that.
they like certains types of personalities on that team, and artest is the exact opposite of that.
to answer your question though, bowen would make any team better.

San Antonio is all about team play and Ron Ron won't give them that...i still think the best for them is King Koopa

i honestly think ron artest would fall in line once he saw that they were absolutely whipping peoples asses every night but yeah.

Right now Denver is in the lead to get Artest. I think it'll be a three team trade involving Denver, Indiana, and Atlanta, with Denver getting Artest, the Pacers getting Harrington, and the Hawks getting some dudes from Denver or something, I dunno the Pacers need to make a trade soon cause they are struggling horrendously right now :shake:

Bruce Bowen is probably one of the best defensive players of our time periodic that is still playing...the trade would suck for the Spurs, and I dont think they would go through with it...however for the pacers it wouldnt be all bad...both players are of equal caliber on their good nights

bowen is great defensively, but the pacers need someone who can also produce on the offensive end...and that's not bruce bowen, bad trade for the pacers in the long run.

good trade for the pacers as they will get rid of a guy who just brings trouble to the team. Bowen won't be getting suspended for an entire season.

bowen can shoot the 3 better than anyone (percentage wise).
artest isnt like that.

Spurs value team chemistry, with Artest's reputation I wouldnt think Poppavich would want any part of him

shareef abdur rahim is actually higher than bowen...bowens only lead the leauge in 3fg% once, in 2003...he wasnt even top five last year. and actually last year, artest shot a higher percentage than bowen. i would never say bowen can shoot the three better than anyone. that's a ludicrous statement.
this would be a dumb trade for the pacers. artest straight up for bowen...the pacers wouldnt even consider that. now artest for bowen and someone who can put points on the board, that'd be ok.

haha id never want bowen shooting a clutch 3 for me. He shoots a good average from the corner everywhere else i watch him he sucks. I can easily name a lot more players who shoot the 3 better then him

In all honesty, I dont see why any team would want Artest, regarldess of what he may bring to the court because of his bad reputation. Anyone who trades for him is fucking stupid, although I hope there is someone that stupid so he leaves the Pacers!

Bruce does have a sweet shot behind the arc.

just because he has a sweet shot from behind the arc...doesnt mean he'll produce...
jason kapono has a sweet shot from behind the arc too.

Never said it would. Was just complimenting his shot. He doesn't need to really produce, so to say he can't isn't a fair judgement. He's the 4th sometimes 5th option.

fourth and fifth options are nothing on a team.
and they do need someone to produce...have you SEEN the pacers play lately?
they're on a four game losing streat and were 5 and 7 in december. hell the hawks won five games in december lol.

Actually, I haven't I've been away for a while. And yes the hawks winning 5 straight is... well odd. They have talent, good to see most come together. They shouldn't have wasted time getting Joe Johnson and Al Harrington though. Just wasted money in my opinion.

I would take a major pay cut to play for the Pistons or Spurs if I had the skills to contribute to a championship
