...who was a terrorist (http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/zwecker/1561711,CST-FTR-zp07.article). who says chivalry is dead...
'I always knew Kiefer had a short fuse, but man -- nobody saw this coming,'' said a guest at the New York party Monday night where Kiefer Sutherland allegedly head-butted fashion designer Jack McCollough of the Proenza Schouler label.
The incident happened at the SubMercer afterparty that followed the big Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala. The weird part: Sutherland claims he was leaping to the aid of Brooke Shields, after witnessing McCollough knocking her over. The ''24'' star's supposed chivalry doesn't jibe with Shields' account of events.
Her publicist stressed to TMZ.com (and subsequently other outlets) that Shields and McCollough are close friends and ''nothing happened to [Shields]. ... Jack did nothing inappropriate. It's not clear what caused Kiefer to do what he did.''
Sutherland's spokesfolks are not commenting further than the actor's original statement to TMZ that he was merely reacting to what he thought was a physical assault by McCollough on Shields.
Another source at the party said Sutherland ''way overreacted'' when McCollough bumped into Shields ''clearly by accident'' while she was chatting with Sutherland.
The actor, who co-starred with Shields in the 1996 film ''Freeway,'' is currently on probation in Los Angeles on a DUI charge. The L.A. authorities have yet to comment on what, if any, action they will take in light of the Monday night incident.
The New York Police are investigating the allegations, and McCollough's people are not saying if the designer will be filing a lawsuit against Sutherland.
A source at the post-gala party who witnessed the altercation claims ''it happened in a flash. Suddenly there was all this yelling and cursing and Jack's face was all bloody.
''Kiefer really looked like he was in a daze of some kind.''
The designer reportedly was rushed to a New York hospital, suffering from a broken nose. He was released Tuesday after being kept in the hospital overnight for observation.
McCollough's publicist called Sutherland's actions a ''vicious, violent, unprovoked assault'' on the designer. ''Anyone who knows Jack McCollough knows that he wouldn't hurt a fly.''
