I thought we needed a place to discuss cartoons, stop-motion animation, Cgi and animes (though that sub group already has its own thread I think).

'Robot Chicken' crew sets new series
Adult Swim to launch stop-motion 'Titan' in September

Adult Swim is looking to clone the success of its highest-rated show, "Robot Chicken," with "Titan Maximum," a new comedy series from the creative team behind "Robot" that shares DNA with its predecessor: It too is a stop-motion animation series about robots.

"Titan," which will launch in September with an initial order of nine episodes, was created by "Robot" co-head writer/producer Tom Root and co-creator/exec producer Matthew Senreich.

"Robot" co-creator/exec producer Seth Green will voice the show's villain and exec produce with Root and Senreich.

The voice cast of the series also includes "Robot" players Breckin Meyer as Titan Maximum, Rachael Leigh Cook, Dan Milano and Eden Espinosa.

"Titan" is set 100 years in the future, when Saturn's moon Titan is defended by an elite squadron of young, brash pilots whose spaceships combine to form the giant robot Titan Maximum. Because of budget cuts, the team has been disbanded but must hastily reassemble when a former team member turns rogue and tries to conquer the solar system.

With "Titan," the creators pay homage to the 1980s Japanese animated cartoons.

"There were always teams of extraordinary young people with the fate of the universe in their hands," Root said. "In reality, that would end terribly. The last thing you want when giant monsters attack is a bunch of teenagers in charge of defending you. 'Titan Maximum' is about what would really happen if a team of idiot kids was in charge of a 6-story-tall robot."

Unlike "Robot Chicken," which is a sketch series, "Titan" has a permanent set of characters and continuous story lines.

Adult Swim brass liked that about the new show. "We also really liked the idea of taking a classic Japanese-style anime-fighting-robot scenario and doing a comic take on it," vp production Keith Crofford said.

"Titan" is produced by Green and Senreich's Stoopid Monkey Prods. and ShadowMachine Films, whose Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico will serve as producers.

Root will lead the writing staff, which includes Senreich and comic book writers Geoff Johns of DC Comics and Zeb Wells of Marvel Comics. Chris McKay will direct, and Eric Blyler will be co-producer.

Here's a treaser for the Mike Judge cartoon the Goode Family, which is basically a reverse King of the Hill.

the show looks to have potential, but ABC has not show to pair with it. Starts May 27 at 8pm with back to back episodes.

Love Robot Chicken. Interested in the new show by Seth.

I love cartoons. Sometimes I feel stupid for still watching them. Oh well.

I love the old school Merry Melodies. Those where the best. I really like the Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. Pretty random.

New cartoon on TBS

TBS Greenlights New Animated Series 'Neighbors From Hell'
News - Press Releases
Adding a devilish touch to its line-up, TBS has greenlit the half-hour animated series "Neighbors From Hell", which comes to the network from Fox TV Animation ("Family Guy"), DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. and Jeffrey Katzenberg ("Shrek").

Pam Brady ("South Park"), who wrote the pilot episode, and Mireille Soria ("Madagascar") will serve as executive producers. TBS has ordered 10 episodes of the series, marking the network's first foray into original primetime animation.
"Neighbors From Hell" centers on the Hellmans, a typical, all-American suburban family, with Balthazor; his wife, Tina; their two children, Mandy and Josh; and their dog, Pazuzu. The only thing that distinguishes them from the rest of the folks in the neighborhood is that the Hellmans happen to be from Hell. They have been sent to Earth to pose as normal suburbanites with a mission to keep humans from finding their way to Hell. Their task is made all the more complicated by Balthazor's growing affection for humans and their odd but endearing qualities.

"Jeffrey Katzenberg, Pam Brady and Mireille Soria are three of the premier talents working in the animation business today, and Fox TV Animation is a giant in the realm of primetime animation," said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming, for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "We believe hit television always begins with bringing the right talent to a project. With Pam Brady's funny and sharp comedic voice, Jeffrey's one-of-a-kind experience and skill and Fox TV Animation's production smarts, we're starting with an ideal foundation. We know they'll make "Neighbors From Hell" a perfect complement to TBS's comedy lineup."

"By depicting everyday American life as seen through the eyes of Balthazor and his family, "Neighbors From Hell" puts a fish-out-of-water twist on the suburban comedy genre," said Katzenberg. "We're proud that this unique series will serve as TBS's first venture into original primetime animation."

Consistently bad. I never liked that show. It was supposed to be a way to backdoor Family Guy back on the air and it feels like it in every way, especially since Family Guy came back on the air at the same time and so all the best jokes went to Family Guy. I admit I haven't watched the show past the first season, so it might have improved since then, but I never felt I had a good reason to watch beyond that.

consistently bad, yet you've only witnessed one season? Excuse me if that ain't a little bit suspicious.

I'm no big McFarlane fan, the guys an ego maniac. But American Dad, when its written in a satirical manner, is a very strong and funny show....much better than anything Family Guy's produced since its return in 2005. I don't watch it on a weekly basis, but on DVD its one of my favorites.

the return of family guy ruined famiy guy for me. most of the jokes are extremly out of place and awkward, and the story lines feel unoriginal and rushed. Plus it feels Seth is pushing his political preferences on every episode making it a pain to watch. I try to give every new episode a chance, but its always a let down to the classic family guy. it has its moments, but now the series is just a glorified manitee joke.

American Dad is more of a satire, while Family Guy usually demonstrates Seth's position on certain topics. I dunno why the decline in quality, maybe they lost most of the old writers before it was cancelled.

your exploding head is very distracting. I also think he's gone overboard over the random jokes. Before it was funny, but now they are awkwardly placed and just do not seem clever, just stupid. Plus they beat the "lets hate on Meg" joke to death. I also hated the writers turning Stewie gay instead of the evil genious. As well Peter's increase in stupidity and Brian's sudden need to be an activist like Lisa from the Simpsons.

....it all comes back to what i think is the writting staff's and its chief creater's overconfidence in their ability to write comedy. Who on earth could of found that bird is the word bit funny? And yet Seth spoke/sung it, and someone drew it. So there is obviously a disconnection between the staff of this show and the reality of the product they are putting out.
