I had the opportunity to catch The Starting Line, MewithoutYou, Armor For Sleep and The Junior Varsity (http://www.myspace.com/thejuniorvarsity) show last night at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Junior Varsity opened and as always they put on a great show. This would be my second time seeing them live and I noticed at this particular show it seemed like the crowd was a lot more into the band which can only mean one thing, they are finally gaining the popularity they deserve. I spoke to Nick and he said that a few of there headlining dates in the UK have sold out, and that almost all of the dates with The Academy Is have sold out as well.
Armor For Sleep was up next and they put on a pretty good show. They primarily played tracks off the new album but did play one or two off the previous release. I do have to mention that there was some “hardcore dancing” going on while they played. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t find AFS to be a “bro/throw down” band. It seemed to me it was some dude it a faux-screamo band shirt kicking little girls. Someone needs to take him to a Ringworm concert. All in all they put on a pretty solid performance and if you are a die hard fan of the band you would have been very impressed.
MewithoutYou… is amazing. I can not believe this band flew under my radar. They make beautiful music and put on a stunning live show. Philadelphia is there hometown and it looked to me that the majority of the crowd was into the band. There were a few “Hollister brahs” (haha I love my generalizations) that seemed to be kind of pissed with the performance but I’m sure that thought slipped there mind and they went right back to thinking of themselves. Anyways, the energy of the band was incredible and if you get the chance I highly recommend you catch them live.
The Starting Line played there longest show as a band and played three songs that they rarely ever play live. It was a performance not to be missed. Everything sounded right on and the sold out show didn’t miss a lyric. Kenny also said “MewithoutYou may not be a band for everyone, but they are definitely a band for me.”
I’d also like to add that I think the Electric Factory is probably the best music venue I have ever been to. It’s a perfect size and there isn’t a bad seat in the house.
I wanted to give a special thanks to both Heather & Tom at Victory Records (http://www.victoryrecords.com) and Nick of The Junior Varsity (http://www.purevolume.com/thejuniorvarsity).

mewithoutYou killed when they played Dallas with the Blood Brothers, Dredg, and Coheed, but hardly anyone was into them. That was a huge bummer. Those guys rock.

Pavan said that TSL was getting a metronome or something to play the songs at full speed, it sounds like whatever the problem was, they fixed it though.
It just annoyed the shit out of me that everything was slowed down.

I had a chance to see mewithoutyou a few weeks ago and they just blew everyhting away. They aren't screaming or hardcore headbanging around stage or anyhting. They DANCE with the music, and they do it fucking well. For one song the singer just stood there not saying a word or moviong for about 3 minutes. It dosent sound that great but when you actually see him do it live its is probably the most amazing and anticipating thing ever. They are diffrent kind of music and style but they do it very fucking well. Aslo had a chance to speak with the singer and he is the coolest mother fucking guy ever. I mean, I said hey and he introduced himself and asked my name and is jsut very chill casual about everything. Can't wait to see them again

I saw mewithoutYou in Manchester (England) supporting Coheed and they were so amazing. I'd only heard January 1979 before that and afterwards I went and got their albums. They're seriously one of the most exciting bands ever. My band of this year.
I talked to the lead singer (in the toilet, in case you needed to know), and he was a really cool guy.
That sounds like a pretty solid line up

the electric factory SUCKS.
the northstar bar and the tla is where it's at.
unless TSL plays "three's a charm" then i'm not interested. ;) plus the last time i saw TSL (on the nintendo fusion tour) they sounded so slow and so tired. that band needs a rest. they're nothing like they were in 2003.

Best Of MeSo where are the three songs they rarely play? I've heard all of those but maybe it's because I've been to their holiday shows in '03 and '04. Sounds like it was a great show anyway.

I am going to ruin it.
I saw MWY with Dredg a couple of months ago and I have to say I wasn't that impressed. The drummer was freaking me out. The singer seemed more interested in interpretive dance than singing and the music was mediocre at best.
And if TSL did in fact solve their tempo problem that is solid. Everytime I see them live it's like their songs speed up and slow down at will...

This show was amazing, the only thing I couldn't stand was mewithoutyou. That's not music, thats talking over a bass line. Im sorry if im being a "hollister" guy, but common...find someone who can actually sing if your gonna call yourself a band. Im not faulting you if you like that sort of thing, but it seemed really out of place with The Starting Line. Anyway, The Starting Line was great and Armor played awesome as the opener.

One of the songs was "the world" but right now im having trouble remembering the other song they never played. Then they played a song they havent played in about 3 years kenny said. But i cant remember that one either. But if i find out ill let you know.
As for mewithoutyou. I never heard of them before last night. I wasn't completely into them but i tried to respect them. But the people around me were pretty rude. These girls were actually singing a whole other song together and talking about how much they didn't like them. I wanted to tell them to show some respect but i didn't want to start anything. I felt bad because not a lot of people were giving them a chance.
