Who?

Bears is a Kentucky-based band made up of (at the time of this release) guitarist Matt, bassist Pat, and drummer Rory, with all three sharing vocal duties. Shortly after their formation, the group released this three-song demo in June of 2007. It was recently re-released as an EP entitled Bad News by Mayday Mayday Records, who will put out the band's full-length debut soon.

How is it?

Despite the title of this release, I've got good news: the band is off to an impressive start. Upon first listen, the start of the first track may lead you to believe that Bears play fairly straightforward hardcore/punk. You'll soon learn otherwise, however, as much of the remainder of the thirteen minute running time is screamo-oriented with ambient passages disbursed amongst the chaos. Fans of intense skramz with hardcore influences will enjoy this.

I don't think they copied Ligeia at all. It's just a coincidence (a play on Bad News Bears). This was originally released as a demo in 07, though I don't know if it had a title at the time. Glad you liked the review though.

is pg.99 a band?

Do you mean are they still a band? No, they broke up like 5 years ago. Were they ever a band? You bet; easily one of the best screamo groups. Check them out if you haven't.

Yep, definitely a different band. It gets confusing with such common names. This band, the one reviewed, is sometimes referred to as Bears! (with the punctuation).
