So, anyone know some good places to submit? I have a few short stories and lots of poetry that I'd like to get out there. I know it's really not that hard to just google "writing submissions" or whatever, but I actually want to submit to publications that are somewhat, well, cool? Not lame? Somewhat modern? Quirky? I can't really describe exactly what I'm looking for, but any suggestions will help. Also, it'd be nice to drag in some cash too. I mean, as a writer, acceptance through publication and positive criticisms are what I want most, but I'm also in somewhat of a less-than-desirable financial situation (as I'm sure most people are at this age, haha). So yeah, any suggestions would be great. Thanks everyone.

There's a forum on Poets.org about this. Check that out.

I will say, though, unless you've had your poems and stories workshopped, it would do you well to have your stuff looked in internet forums. Here would not be the best place, though there are a few members who know what they're talking about and would give you worthwhile feedback. Poets.org would be the place to go for your poetry, but I'm not sure where you would go for the stories. I say this because sending your stuff to publishers/contests without having your pieces properly critiques will most likely result in a lot of wasted effort. Unless you happen to be a prodigy writer, there's no possible way your work will be publishing-ready without having it looked at by eyes other than your own.

Just food for thought.

Once again, fishingthe_sky says all that needs to be said on a subject.

Damn, I need to start submitting shit on poets.org. I've got an account, I'm just...I don't even think lazy's the word. I got busy and forgot. I'm going to start doing that shit.
