What happened to the days when hardcore was about community? I wish I was around to remember them. Long Island's had this same problem for a while, and it's time for these people to get over themselves; there's nothing wrong with going to shows with a group of your friends, but "enforcing respect in hardcore" by beating the shit out of people is counter-productive and to my understanding goes against the basic principles of what hardcore is supposed to be about. It's time shit like this stops.

I'm sorry, I guess I missed since people around here don't show up with machetes and hammers I don't truly understand music :shake:

Get real, the fact that FSU even showed up to stop the show is retarded. You're right, I don't know anything about them, but if they think they can determine whoe does and doesn't play music, I don't care, they are still idiots.

Shhh, they might decide your their next target. I usually hate when people drop this line, but when did it ever become about anything more than music. If it has to involve how big your ego is to have fun, then I'll gladly misunderstand and ignore it.

this is out of control. let the scene get ruined and watch all your favorite bands not be able to tour because kids are afraid to come to shows because. they will all get scared they will get shot/killed/assulted/beat up. rediculous.

you kids think thats lame... go to chicago and deal with the CMS and Chi Town 77 douchebags. ive had to run from those dudes before. plus, the cops dont bother them, even when violence is involved. ive seen a cop watch a skin kick the shit out of a muslim dude outside the metro after an against me show and do nothing about it.

gotta love skins...

the hardcore community used to be about giving the misfits and outsiders a place where they belong. now they have to worry about getting the shit kicked out of them. there was a bunch of linebacker looking ***s that came and tried to fuck up a saosin/no warning show here a while back. but they weren't successful. but honestly, they think they're a real gang? please. they ain't shit. they'd piss their pants if they ever rolled up on a real gang.

wooah, everyone, be careful what you say. FSU might be reading this!

this is so ridiclous. music should be about coming together, that's what it is about.

i love that feeling at a show, when everyone's hands are in the air, and you look around, everyone's singing along.. you feel infinite. and you look to your right or left, and you just lock eyes with someone and smile, and think to yourself this is the greatest feeling in the world. we shouldn't have to worry about "gang members".

plus, they're all in their 20's? grow the fuck up.

A good friend of mine lives up in Seattle and is in the hardcore scene there. I guess he had a friend in FSU who was down in Tucson for the show where the guy was shot, and his understanding of what happened was completely different than what the newspapers told.

But, the kid was never charged, so I think we know who's interpretation is correct.

I wonder how long he will defend FSU if they keep getting his shows shut down in his own scene.

FSU stands for Friends Stand United...but they also aquired the name Fuck Shit Up, because thats what they do...they fuck shit up for the most ridiculous reasons they can think of.

It's just weird that they were in seattle...they are mostly and Northeastern thing. I remember FSU showed up at a Crisis show I was at in Albany. They showed up for a band that was opening called All Out War. I remember the singer was pretty much screaming that if you weren't fucking dancing, then you shouldn't even be there. Then all the kids proceeded to take off their shirts...ahd matching black tank-tops...and practically took over the whole floor. The crowd fell like dominos, I flipped over the guard border and lost my shoe and my friend, she got squashed by this 400 pound dude...and we weren't even NEAR the pit. There weren't any incidents, but it was clearly all about intimidation. If they want respect, then how about they pick a fucking good cause and do some charity work or something. They aren't going to get respect by trying to scare people and create violence. They cause their OWN bad names and then get pissed when somebody acknowledges that.

But yea...these are the kind of guys that bring guns to shows and ruin scenes. Its about fucking COMMUNITY...not gangs and violence. Hardcore may have been pretty violent in the 80's....but that was then, this is now and nobody is impressed.

Just reminds of that Good Clean Fun song.

"They say that dancing is a way of life
And all the untough had better think twice
Well I'm not going to take it sitting down anymore
It's time that we took back the dance floor

Let's hear it for the boy who'll say
"Get this macho tough guy shit away"
The scene is just like a small town
And we don't want your kind around

If we sit back and blindly follow the crowd
There will soon be no dancing allowed
And I think we all know there is no excuse
Did we learn nothing from Footloose?

I want to see you dance without the violence"

No, it actually does stand for Friends Stand United. These guys are trying to create a hardcore community with people who have to prove themselves hardcore. The only thing is, in their minds hardcore is about being able to prove yourself when times are violent and if you can't then you're out.

The sad thing is I know a lot of kids in this area that worship that video. I'm all for hardcore and everything, but the Boston Beatdown DVD made the scene internationally known, and a lot more kids came out wearing the Beatdown and FSU t-shirts and starting shit after that second DVD came out. A lot of venues in NH, if you bust out a video camera without the venue owner knowing about it beforehand, you get your ass kicked out. They don't want the third beatdown being filmed on their venue ground.

I see a lot of kids try to fight back in the Boston area, and then they get like five or ten big guys pummeling the shit out of them. No wonder nobody wants to fight back anymore, except for the ignorant ones who don't realize how much shit they are about to get into. And some venues who support the FSU end up kicking out the kid who got the shit beat out of him for "fighting."

i dont think fighting back helps anything. doing nothing doesn't help either though. people like FSU thrive on the attention and the boost their ego gets from feeling superior to others. its the 3rd grade bully all grown up. fighting is what they want, so it wont help to give them that satisfaction. i think the best thing we can do is keep posting news like this one to keep people aware of this parasite in our scene. although the publicity might initually be giving them the attention they want, we need to make it known that this kind of behavior isn't wanted here, and wont be tolerated by venue owners, promoters, etc. im down with dancing, unity, and having a goood time but groups like FSU destroy these by dividing the scene, and hurting others.

Ten guys jump one, what a man
You fight each other, the police state wins
Stab your backs when you trash our halls
Trash a bank if you've got real balls

You still think swastikas look cool
The real nazis run your schools
They're coaches, businessmen and cops
In a real fourth reich you'll be the first to go

[Repeat chorus]

there is no point. its self glorification. selfishness, ignorance, and unconciousness working in tandem to boost some tough guy's ego cause he can't figure out any healthy way to be happy. they are finding temporary happyness in the form of fleeting bursts of superiority through violence. after the fight is over, after the tough guy circle jerks and high fives are done, are they all left with what they started with: boredom and unhappyness so they just go do it again next weekend. nothing they ever do in association with FSU will ever improve their life situation permenantly enough to make it worthwhile. think of the scene in american history x where the teacher asks edward norton in jail if anything he had done (gang violence) had ever made his life any better. no.

lol, although worded romanticaly, they aren't wrong. what makes a concert, and music in general, so attractive to everyone is that it brings us in the the present. stay with me here, lol: depression, aggression, and many other negative emotions are products of us thinking of events in the past. anxiety and fear and products of us thinking about the future. music and concerts allow us to escape past and future, and just enjoy the present: to be "caught up in the moment" so to speak. if concertgoers have to worry about the potential of violence, anxiety and fear have been introduced into what was once an escape from these two things.

First off, I would like to say that your getting my bias opinion because I love hardcore and every aspect, besides the murdering in the street that that cool.

Hardcore is a violent culture, anyone who goes to shows should know that. I get mad when people go out of their ways to say "oh fuck Crews, there the reason why we can't go to shows an feel safe!" If you want to feel safe at a show, stick to non-hardcore shows, but in general even without crews violence would still surround shows. Hardcore is a community, you go to a show, as long as your not an idiot and act like your the shit your gonna get along with kids. Don't talk shit, thats pretty much what this article is about, the band was talking shit. If someone was talking shit about you, you would most likely confront them about it and if you knew you could stop that from talking shit, wouldn't you?

well if you understand it then fill us in

because i personally don't believe that there is anything to understand but a bunch of assholes making up a bullshit group to feel like they are important

when they are really a waste of life

It's a culture and a lifestyle, these guys from Boston, they don't just go to shows this is their lives. They live hardcore. I know thats a hard concept to grasp for some people but they live the violence and the music.

It's a culture and a lifestyle, these guys from Boston, they don't just go to shows this is their lives. They live hardcore. I know thats a hard concept to grasp for some people but they live the violence and the music.

I liked it..haha. Guess that makes me a bad person. The interview give you alot of insite into this scene.

Bands out of Boston and some other areas.
bands like Black My Heart, Shattered Realm, Death Before Dishonor, to name a few.

Simply put, don't fuck with FSU.

ok, well some people enjoy hardcore music but are above the ignorance of beating another human senseless because "thats what hardcore is". i really find it irrelevant that some people "live for the violence" and what not. i dont care how happy it makes them, because its not healthy for them or anyone that they hurt.

music can, and should, be enjoyed without needless violence. don't take what im saying the wrong way and assume against dancing, beause im not. im refering to gang violence and intentional attacks on others, not accidently punching a kid in the face in the pit and then helping him up.
