Got to the show around 6:30. Fairly long line outside that I figured would be for From Autumn To Ashes(whom I did not want to see). Went inside, got a nice spot in the crowd and waited for the opening band. They were called Magnetic North, and at first seemed like a run of the mill screamo band, but then some songs sounded pop punk, and others nu metal. Just terrible in my opinion, no clue as to what they really want to be I suppose.
Next up was The Sleeping, A band I had heard a lot about but never actually listened to. As they set up, they brought out two plastic robots and set them on the stage which was pretty badass lol. So they came out and basically blew me away. Amazing stage prescence and crowd interaction, flawless playing, loved this line; after asking people to put their fists in the air he said "All of you with your arms crossed and hoods up, congratulations 30 scene points to you, now for the rest of you, lets have some fun". Really made a lot of kids look around and uncomfortable when they were trying to act too cool to participate. Overall an A+ performance that had me buy their cd and two tees.
Finally the band I came to see(despite them not fitting on this bill at all) As Tall as Lions. They took the stage and as usual just awed and amazed. They are by far one the most undderated and unkown bands out there. They opened with a jam that I figured was a new song, but eventually morphed into 96 heartbeats, and I was pumped. After that, we were informed that was the only old song they would play. From there on they tore into 7 new songs all of which were amazing and ran from slow melodic riffs, to large piano pieces and everything in between. No song titles were divulged other than Deep Sleeper, which is on their myspace.
After they left the stage, more than half the crowd left making me feel slightly bad for FATA, but well their last album sucked a big one so I can understand why. So I left as well, and overally had an amazing night, saw one of my favorite bands and also heard a new one that I enjoyed.
