Im sure we all have liked some bands that may not be in existance anymore, im curious as to what bands you guys would like to see have a second chance or a one night gig.

If it were up to me, i'de love to see Norma Jean with their original line up. I loved Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child, but sadly Josh left before the album was even released.

Any genre but keep it somewhat recent, past 10 years or so.

Yeah, they basically went from being a hardcore band to being more of a prog/alternative type band, and then to playing what was more straightforward rock by their standards, before combining all of that on their last album. They're supposed to be playing some shows and releasing an EP this year, which apparently has some softer stuff as well as some really heavy stuff on it.

holy shit i forgot about those bands....

i went to a show were Emery headlined, there was a band called As Cities Burned that no one really heard of cuz it was just around the time "son, i loved you at your darkest" came out. i ended up showing up late to the show, missed their set cuz they opened the show. That night i got their cd and loved it ever since. This was when Emery was on "The Question" tour.

And others... like...

RHCP though they are only on a "break"
The Format

and Blink 18... oh wait.

A few months ago, maybe more. Google it, it was big news when it happened. Flea wanted to do the whole family thing, John wanted to do his solo stuff, and Chad and Anthony had other things going on.

They were my favorite band for the longest time and still are to a point, but I have changed in musical taste in the last 2 years, so they are still up there, but not at the exact top. But yeah, just google it, you'll find their one year departure somewhere out there.

because if At The Drive-in stayed together they would be playing Mars Volta songs. I'm not entirely sure how that warrants a reunion when we have TMV. I understand that you can bold the word fictitious as an attempt to distance yourself from this idiocy but i might as well make posts in this thread like I want to see the beatles. i mean, not shit, everyone else does.

they didn't break up at the height of their popularity as to not compromise their music. they broke up because jim ward wanted to write shitty sparta songs and omar/cedric wanted to go off the deep in. getting that band back together would fucking suck.

Refused didn't break up as to "not compromise their music" they broke up because because people were acting like they were gods of the scene, which contradicts situationist theory. they wanted to be popular, which is why they turned into the international noise conspiracy.

so yeah, if you don't care about what the band sang about then they should totally get back together.

Yeah. People were acting like they were 'gods of the scene'. Which isn't what they wanted. The compromising the music thing. Kinda what I was going for there.

And the International Noise Conspiracy is noooooooooo more marketable than the Refused, especially the original stuff that would have come about right after the Refused break up.

okay, dumbass, it's not compromising their music at all since they turned around and made more marketable music with T(I)NC. They didn't care about their music in that sense because it was a mere commodity to begin with. They cared about their political ideology. Getting back together solidifies their places as "heroes", keeping people from championing new subversive sounds. Try reading a book on SI theory before you talk about them.

what you wrote here makes absolutely no sense as the band readily admits they want to be as popular as possible to reach as many audiences as they could. they even played a fucking jazz festival for god's sake.

refused shouldn't get back together. it would be terrible. band wasn't even that good live to begin with.

We were hoping that we could be the final nail in the coffin of the rotten cadaver that was popular music, but unfortunately the reification was too big for us to succeed with our feeble attempts to detour this boring discourse. When every expression, no matter how radical it is, can be transformed into a commodity and be bought or sold like cheap soda, how is it then possible that you are going to be able to take "art" seriously?

When the single purpose of every song written is to accumulate capital for the record companies that will only kill every attempt at spontaneity and creativity, how are we then expected to create?

A division into five new directions means in practice five new projects that can challenge and fight the boredom and death that sneaks into our everyday life. Five new ways to make the political manifesto that once was known under the collective spanner of "the Refused Party Program" concrete, five new forces that can devour and choke every tendency of the bourgeoisie shackle that keeps us down.

That's all from their last open letter about their break up. See? There's something I said, and there's also something you said. Can we both be right, or am I still a dumbass?

I think most people who are even slightly familiar with Refused are aware that a reunion would, in at least a couple of different ways, betray the point of their break-up. But this thread is intended as hypothetical, as far as I can tell. It doesn't hurt to speculate.

Yeah. The EP is solid. I love their sound. I only got my hands on this about a month or so ago actually. But they were a great band with two amazing releases - reforming would be welcomed by quite a few people I believe. Although I do really like Josh Moore's solo stuff - equally amazing.

Well, there's only one other CD, Treatment 15. It was their first release. It's, IMO, no where near as good as Idle Will Kill. Still good for what it is, but not anywhere near IWK. There's also like 3 non-album tracks floating around. But yeah...they broke up after IWK. Shame. It was rumored that the next album was going to be named Thriller, and before I go to bed every night I pray that somehow a demo or two from that era shows up in an envelope in my mailbox. Never happens though.

The singer, Devon, went on to do a kind of folk rock project that I like called Fingers-Cut! Megamachine! They/he put out a 2 CDs, an EP, and some non-album tracks too. Now he records stuff just under his name Devon Williams. I don't know if he has any proper recordings yet.
