The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall is a must read. Easily my favorite book. Exciting, hilarious and epic mindfuck.
Also, House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. It's kind of a task to get through it, but an awesome story.

If you read for pure and simple enjoyment of books then there are a wealth of options: Twilight of course, Maximum Ride, Laurell K. Hamilton (author).
If you actually want to get something out of the book, Ender's Game (mentioned already), Sex Drugs and Cocoa Puffs, Anything by Ann Rynd.

"East Of Eden"-John Steinbeck
"Wonder Boys" or "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" -Michael Chabon
Those are the last three I read and I highly recommend all three.
Here's a couple books...
http://imaginingourselves.imow.org/Asset/3370_they_poured_fire_on_us_from_th e_sky_book_cover_web.jpg
They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky: The Story of Three Lost Boys From the Sudan by Benjamin Ajak, Benson Deng, Alephonsian Deng, Judy Bernstein
[Whenever I get a chance to recommend a book I recommend this one (one of my favorites), it will probably take you through a whole range of emotions while reading it. Knowing that its true makes it that much worse/better]
http://www.amazon.com/They-Poured-Fire-Us-Sky/dp/1586483889/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242677433&sr=1-1

Crooked Little Vein by Warren Ellis
[This is the latest book I read, to be honest its not the best book ever but its pretty good for being as short and easy to complete as it is... a bit graphic at times.. but entertaining]
Some must reads (imo):
The following Kurt Vonnegut books (a bit cliche but its superb fiction/scifi):
The Sirens of Titan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sirens_of_Titan) (1959)
Cat's Cradle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat%27s_Cradle) (1963)
Slaughterhouse-Five; or, The Children's Crusade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slaughterhouse-Five) (1969)
The following Michael Chabon books (this guy is just a master at his craft):
The Mysteries of Pittsburgh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mysteries_of_Pittsburgh) (1988)
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Adventures_of_Kavalier_ %26_Clay) (2000)The following Tom Robbins book (is extremely entertaining, will probably make you lol more than a couple times, he's got other good ones but this is by far his best imo):
Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fierce_Invalids_Home_from_Hot_Clima tes) (2000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_in_literature))
The following Fyodor Dostoyevsky (EXTREMELY EPIC fiction that well, there's a reason this guy is considered on of the greatest writers ever... his stuff is just deep as far as the psychology of characters, themes, etc.):
(1866) Crime and Punishment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_and_Punishment)
(1881) The Brothers Karamazov (This ones great.)
If you don't mind reading extremely interesting Science/Physics books (these are easy to read and entertaining if you enjoy time travel and such):
Time Traveler: A Scientist's Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality by Ronald Mallett (2006) (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Time_Traveler:_A_Sc ientist%27s_Personal_Mission_to_Mak e_Time_Travel_a_Reality&action=edit&redlink=1)
[It's mostly an interesting biography about how he lost his father and how that lead him to becoming a physicist and wanting to create a Time Machine (a real one!) to go back and see his father]
and
A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Time_Traveler:_A_Sc ientist%27s_Personal_Mission_to_Mak e_Time_Travel_a_Reality&action=edit&redlink=1)
[He breaks down time travel, black holes, etc etc in a way anyone could understand]

Swann's Way- In Search of Lost Time (volume 1). I will warn you- this dude could write ten pages about a candle going out. It is incredibly, incredibly dense- but very worth it. Make sure you get the translation by Lydia Davis- my uncle reads both French and English and said her's, which is the latest, is the most accurate to his voice.

He's Just Not That Into You -- again just a quick, easy read.
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
Promise Not To Tell by Jennifer McMahon
The Kite Runner -- one of the few books I enjoyed in high school.
I am currently reading "Nineteen Minutes" by Jodi Picoult which is really good but if you haven't already read My Sister's Keeper READ IT NOW!

"Hyperion"- Dan Simmons. The best sci-fi book you will ever read with the Shrike being one of the most awesome creations in fiction
"A Game of Thrones"- George R.R. Martin. The start of the best fantasy series of all time. Tolkien cant touch this. Impossible to put down.
"the Lies of Lock Lamora"- Scott Lynch. Awesome fun fantasy. Think Pirates of the Caribbean meets Ocean's Eleven meets Oliver Twist.
"Perdido Street Station"- China Mieville. Some of the most crazy and imaginative settings and creatures you'll ever read about. Very very good book
