Awesome! Haven't heard this song enough...you'd think that since its been released for a good 3 months now they might actually play something new...guess not. I am hopeful that the CD will be high quality, from the reviews I've read its supposed to be jammin...but jesus christ, they could've picked a better single if they all had earplugs in...
Sorry...

it's almost annoying how much you guys hate yellowcard. I mean, i'm not a huge fan myself, but if you hate the song, dont listen to it. turning the channel on the radio or mtv isn't that hard. btw, i dont think ive ever seen the video or heard the song on the radio. granted, i dont watch mtv or listen to the radio, but why are you guys constantly listening to it if you hate it? I think deep down.... you LOOOOOVE yellowcard. hahaha.

I haven't even heard this new song, hell I haven't even seen the album cover. The last Yellowcard song I heard was Way Away because it's on one of my Madden games. I've never liked this band.

So what's with the AP.net smear campaign against them? The sad thing is, it will work; too many people on this site are too empty minded to formulate their own opinions. This is one of the reasons why Cartel became so popular this year.

Yeah, you've got us figured out. Maybe the reason Cartel is becoming popular is because they have an amazing vocalist and the entire album is catchy as hell. I heard them from my friend and I have passed them along to many others and everyone has said they liked their sound. Give people on this site a little more credit dude. Not everyone likes Brand New and this site pimped the hell out of Deja Entenenenedu or whatever that album was called.

I think people are bitter based on the fact that they lost Harper and they got big. People used to LOVE yellowcard until they got big off of Ocean Avenue, and then all of the sudden, they suck? I don't know, I love them personally...

And Cartel is not THAT catchy. A few songs are (Say Anything Else, Runaway, Matter Of Time) but some songs are just pure shit. Save Us is terrible compared to the demo... and wtf, Burn This City and Settledown? Whoooooooa you really need to settle down... terrible...

Edit: Though I agree, Will has some pipes on him.

I've said that I never have liked Yellowcard in my life, it has nothing to do with their popularity or the fact that Ben got kicked out, I never liked them when he was in the band. They're just a mediocre pop-punk band.

Well, when Ryan announces they made Ocean Avenue, not because they cared about the music, but to make money, yeah, they suck. I appreciate bands with some sincerity to their music, not someone who is peddling mindless words with a catchy sound so they can make $$.

It's not because they got big that people hate them, it took two years after Ocean Avenue for people to turn. When I hear that an album that was my anthem for an entire summer was just made to be a hit with teenagers, it pisses me off. It's the same reason I don't listen to Ashlee Simpson and that trash, because their is no emotion behind it.

I honestly doubt I give the new cd a try.

If the album hit home with you, why the fuck do you care why they wrote it? It was obviously meaningful to you, as well as others in some way...you just don't want to admit to have felt something for an album that attracts TRLers. Music is music...if you like it, like it. If you don't, don't fucking listen to it. I posted once in this thread that i hate Lights and Sounds...I like pretty much any other YC material, and I hope the new CD sound doesn't at all mimic the single, or I probably won't like it that much. I'm still open to trying it out...I don't give a fuck what they write it for. If its good music, its good music. I wish everyone would stop being fucking babies...anybody in their right mind that could do something they enjoy doing and set themselves up for life and never have to work 9-5 would do it...if you don't you're just an idiot.

Because someone likes one band, it voids their tastes in music. Smooth move fuckbag. I'm not going to slam you for liking or hating this band because saying I have shitty tastes because of one band is definitely one of the most unjustified arguments you could have made.

Because I met them around that time, talked with them, they actually seemed like nice guys, even Ryan. They might as well have spit in my face handing me an album that seemed like they poured all their energy into when all they were really doing was taking the $10. It wasn't just the album that hit me, it was the whole band, they seemed like a band I could get behind. I'm almost certain it's the same facade that Jason got hooked with too. The truth, all they see is thousands of dollar signs in the audience, and the only remaining member who loved the music is now out of that band.

If you wanna bring the bullshit TRLer argument, go for it, but I still stand behind FOB. Why? because there is an honesty in their music that I thought Yellowcard had. I love Jacks Mannequin for the same reason, I know their is a sincerity in Andrew's words, and the ability to express it in a song is something I wish I had, but it draws me in anyway.

I'm still open to trying it out...I don't give a fuck what they write it for. If its good music, its good music.
Their lyrics aren't deep enough for them to be devoid of emotion. Give me any lyric from Ocean Avenue, it replicates the pop formula, what sets it apart is the writer/singer. Ashlee Simpson is just singing words that were written to sell money, and now I know Yellowcard was doing the same thing.

It'd be damn hard to go to a show now and sing along, because I would know that only the audience cares about what they are singing.

BSmittyAu
01/05/06, 05:32 PM
Ya know...you're right. I'm sure they pulled Ben into that meeting and said something along these lines..."Ben, we're all trying to make a lot more money...your guitar riffs won't sell, so we're voting you out of the band." That must be it. I can understand...the situation sounds shady to me as well, but its a personal dispute within the band and it's really nobody's business. I was a big fan of blink, but they split because Tom wanted to spend more time with his family and travis/mark wanted to keep touring/recording etc...but you don't see people flooding the forums with "PLUS44 SUCKS OMG KILL THEM THEY KICKED OUT TOM"...it was something that had to be done and that was that. You can't force people to play music together to the end of time if things aren't working out. If that leaves a sour taste in your mouth when you think of Yellowcard, fine, dont listen to them. I apologize your heart was broken, and because of a dispute within the band it has changed your musical tastes. You admit to liking the album that they "wrote for money", and claim that none of the lyrics are personal... Don't you think if it was really impersonal and written for money, you would've noticed that before Ryan said something about it in an interview? I thought so.

My point is mainly this...Yellowcard may still make good music. I personally liked Ocean Avenue much like yourself...much like everyone. If ya'll want to keep carrying this "hate yellowcard" banner on the forums, thats fine. It doesn't make any sense to hate them because they couldn't keep their original group together. Nobody bitched this hard when Pete left for "personal reasons" or whatever...Like I said, if the group isn't friendly anymore, they either stop making music or make changes in the lineup to allow them to play music. They want to keep doing what they are doing...entertaining, writing music, and never working a day job ever again. I can't blame them one bit.

I know I've had the discussion where album sales don't equal talent, but I figure that would be lost on you, so why bother.

But nice quote misuse anyway

Why thank you for letting us hate them. And I'm going to disagree, Lights and Sounds is a terrible direction if that song is an indication of where they are going, so I don't think they are making good music.

Keeping the group together isn't my problem, its arrogance that caused that. It's findind out that the album was a pop farse that bothers me.

I'm a Yellowcard fan but have recently been absolutely ripped off by them. I got the Canadian addition of their recent tour and it turns out that under the Canadian tour packaging, it's their Ocean Avenue release. I guess it’s my bad for not looking into it before I bought it but still, a nice scam to make a few dollars.
