Pretty obvious choices there. I guess all that's left is coach of the year.

You would have to think Dungy is almost a lock barring any huge event; i.e Pats winning the SB. Belichick would have to receive some consideration, with all the injuries and 3 in a row...
Holmgren would have to be up there too if Seattle were to win the SB.
In the end, even if Seattle wins, it has to be in favor of Dungy. Almost perfect season and your son died. Not to mention the defense greatly improved.

I'm pretty sure the coach award will be out soon, well before the Super Bowl.
i dont think dungy...i would look at a a coach that brought a team up from the bottom of the standings...my choice is lovie smith...he brought a poor chicago bears in 2004 to the playoffs.

Poor? They were rather loaded on defense.
Poor? They were rather loaded on defense.
no poor as in a 5-11 record last year...last place in the division to first place in the division. last year they gave up 331 points and this year they gave up 202 so dont' be giving that loaded defense bullshit.

That defense is loaded though, just look at the roster. Lovie needed a year to organize things, he's very good with defense. People tend to forget he was behind the greatest show on turf's defense, which was very good in 99 and 01 (awful in 00).
if only the bears had any offense...always bet the under on the bears games...it is a sure win

I'm waiting for Coach of the Year more than anything. So many people deserve it. I'm not going to be a typical NY fan and say "Tom Coughlin deserves it! He's the best!" He could have been a candidate, but I really rule him out considering I would choose from these 3: Tony Dungy, Marvin Lewis, and Mike Holmgren. I think Lovey Smith, Tom Coughlin, and Mike Shanahan deserve some credit though. All the coaches this year do. I think Dungy has it though. Threatening to go 16-0 and all.

bill belichick deserves more consideration than coughlin, shanahan or holmgren. i would say its between smith and belichick and smith will probably win it.

Mike Shanahan controlled Plummer to throw very few picks, and got production out of Ron Dayne, and a bunch of Cleveland d-linemen that were busts. Oh and he worked in multiple rookie d-backs. That's coach of the year material right there.

i think lovie deserves it.
but i wouldn't be surprised if dungy wins it. the colts were the biggest story of the year during their 13 game streak. they were an incredibally well coached team all season.
plus, his son died. and voters love sympathy votes.
i think dungy deserves it. but so does lovie and belichek and even marvin lewis.
if any of those four win, it's fair. i don't see a legitimate argument against any of them.

Shanahan doesn't get the credit he deserves. If I had to fill out a ballot for this year, I'd have it like this:
1. Lovie Smith
2. Mike Shanahan
3. Bill Bellichek
4. Tony Dungy
5. Marvin Lewis
Smith has great personnel on defense but he still did lead the turnaround there. It could have gotten ugly with Kyle Orton at quarterback but Smith managed the gameplan well and minimized the damage. Without his direction, I think this is nothing more than an 8-8 team even with that defense. He also managed the Thomas Jones/Cedric Benson situation well. It's always easy to give the ball to your #1 pick, but he stuck with Jones and was rewarded with over a 1,000 yard season. It's gotta be him, with Shanahan and his overachieving Broncos right behind.

well, comparing this years bears D to last years is wrong, because wasn't Urlacher out for basically the whole year? if i'm wrong, then disregard this whole statement.
But, i think it's either Love or Marvin Lewis.

I think it's Lovie, I mean he took a Bears team that was ranked by pretty much every sportswriter outside of Chicago DEAD LAST in the NFL and turned them into one of the top five teams in the league.

really, did a lot of sports writers have them behind SF, Arizon, NO, and Houston?

Lovie will win it. For the record, ESPN.com ranked them 29 in their power rankings. They now have the bears ranked at 5. That makes a pretty good case for lovie.

He wasn't being literal. The team wass terrible last year. And Chicago used to be a perennial powerhouse. Lovie did a lot and got lucky, which is what you have to do in the NFL.
Any talk of Belichick winning it is ridiculous. The Patriots wouldn't have made the playoffs in most other divisions. Brady carried the team not Belichick.

It should be between Lovie Smith and Marvin Lewis. Although Holmgren and Dungy should be in there as well.

The only reason I mentioned Coughlin was because if you look at most of our shitty seasons with Fassel, Coughlin's made alot of improvements. I agree though. I really think every coach this year did a great job, theres not one coach who is like overrated or whatever.

my fault. the way he capitalized it made me think he was serious.
But the team was the same, essentially, just without urlacher (which shows how much he means to them) for most of the season.

Lovie should get it, Dungy will most likey get it cause the Colts were practically undeafted and the sympathy vote for his son too.
