One week to go! *tumbleweed*
I haven't watched a lot of tennis since around February as my interest seems to dip/peak before/after the slams, but this should be awesome and I finished education forever just in time!
Federer winning Madrid has thrown it wide open, but surely Nadal can't be beaten! And Murray has had by far his best results on clay this season. Gonna be a good one I reckon! It feels like aaaaaages since the Austrlian Open finished.

nadal will win it easy. only reason federer beat nadal in madrid is because of the match nadal had in the semis

this is the worst slam for americans we always lose in the first two rounds
maybe murry can live the dream
are the seeds out?

are the seeds out?Seeds will be out in a couple days. My dream scenario would play out much like this past week did. A long, grueling semi between Nadal and Novak leading to a Nadal/Federer final.

I think Nadal will still win this, yet again. He may have lost in Madrid, but he lost Rome last year, and went on to win the French.
A Nadal/Federer final would be great though; they've always been pretty entertaining in the Grand Slam setting.

Nadal and Safina?

05/17/09, 07:22 PM
Nadal, Fed, and Djokovic will probably end up in the SF with the fourth spot being one of Murray, Del Potro, or Verdasco.
Even after today's performance I still believe Nadal will win (much like everyone else), he was worn out from his marathon match yesterday with Djokovic and has been banged up a bit lately. As for the women, that might be a bit closer, Safina is always solid on clay and watch out for the 2 Serbs (Jankovic and Ivanovic).

Isn't Nadal always banged up? He always plays with bandages on his knees.

Isn't Nadal always banged up? He always plays with bandages on his knees.
He tapes his knees to reduce pressure on them (same way people tape their ankles if they've had old injuries)...but that's more because of his style than because he is constantly injured. I remember reading he used to get tendinitis in his knees, thus why he tapes them the way he does.

Nadal will stroll this, unfortunately. Federer seems like the only one who can nearly play at his level on clay. But maybe someone will surprise me, I hope so.
As for the women's champ, erm... Ivanovic? She's the hot one right?
xglassjawx
05/22/09, 02:40 AM
Haha I love women's tennis. Everyone talks in detail about the men. And then everyone is like... yeah the women's, won't that fit eastern european chick win it? Er... Sharapanovic? Hahahaha.
In all seriousness, COME ON KEOTHAVONG! She got to the semis of the clay even last week, first British woman to do so since the 80s apparently. Surely she should be nearer the top 40 soon! What a legend.

05/22/09, 02:08 PM
nobody cares for womens tennis except for Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova cause they're hot and good. Maria Kirilenko is just hot, and in a terrible run of form.
xglassjawx
05/22/09, 02:14 PM
Dominika Cibulkova is also a fitty. Very underrated. I also love Keothavong for patiotic reasons. She's been awesome this season but has Safina in the first round.

Yeah, Blake, Querrey and Fish already out! The Americans have always hated the red stuff apart from Aggassi in recent years! I think Roddick could sneek through though, people forget he is still top draw, though better on hard courts.

Yeah, people forget that Roddick is one of the top clay court players for the US.......which means he'll make it through about three rounds.

I think Roddick could sneek through though, people forget he is still top draw, though better on hard courts.Blake's career seems to be free-falling at the moment. He seems like a guy at this stage in his career who will be out of the top 50 within a year.
Querrey has been pretty disappointing as has Donald Young. For some reason these guys can't make that big leap or let alone win 2 matches at a slam consistently.
At least Roddick's draw is fairly manageable and should be able to win a couple more matches.
Posting in for later but glad Murray was looking in great shape.
Saw some of Serena's match, she got pushed haaaaard.

Yeah epic comeback by Murray. Never looked in doubt after he started to win games again. Good use of the "come one" after points. He uses it well and knows when to start showing emotion and when not to. Tipsarevic should be tricky though. Cannot believe Safina is 24-2 in games so far in the tournament!

Federer was tested today; Acasuso played really well.
And it was a pity Dokic had to retire like that. I thought she was really going to pull the upset

i think grass and hardcourt season will help his game at least i hopeHmm, I don't think Blake has ever had a good Wimbledon showing. He's got the flat ground strokes which help him on that surface but serving is his biggest weakness which doesn't fit grass court play.
I'm not expecting him to do much on hard courts either.
It's great to see Roddick playing well though. Having not dropped a set on clay in two matches is remarkable even if he hasn't played a great player yet.
Rafa killed Hewitt today and I loved it, I cant stand Hewitt. Nadal had 2 amazing forehand winners in a row, they were absolutely filthy.

Hewitt's actually quite maligned here and I'm not much of a fan. I'm a Federer supporter so it was nice to see Nadal have a good win and those forehand winners were so good

Wow at Djokovic being down 2 sets. That would certainly make Federer's road to the final much easier.
Pretty shocked Djokovic lost, especially in straight sets....and ARod in the fourth round for the first time. :woot: tough match up against Monfils though

Yeah
Federer has to love this...two of the biggest challenges are gone, and the main challenge in his side of the draw is a guy he dominates in Roddick

SÖDERLING!!!!
x
/late pass
Haha, Soderling played amazing aggressive tennis. The amount of winners and unforced errors were insane from Soderling. Great to watch.
Andy Murray has a tough match just now, Gonzalez is excellent, but it is 1 set a piece 3-6 6-3 just now so fingers crossed.
Here come the Swedes!!
And Sharapova's run is over, just got crushed in a quick 2 setter.
Yay Söderling again. I need to start watching this, but I'm working all the time.

and for anyone who cares about the women's draw. serena williams was beaten by kuznetsova 7-6, 5-7, 7-5.
Federer is 34-1 against the remaining players in the open, so Fed is almost a lock to win imo.

Australia's Sam Stosur into the final four is such a wonderful effort. Hoping for a Federer men's singles victory. I'd love to see his reaction to finally achieving some long overdue success on the clay courts of Roland Garros.

For some reason she just lost it mentally after getting broken right back in the first set.
I think that's a major reason. She had something like eleven winners and twenty-two unforced errors and seven double faults which didn't help her cause either. Very disappointing. :-(

Straight sets victory for Federer in the men's singles final. :-)

Apperantly not :-( But atleast a Swede won the junior final!
