"In 2005, the American economy turned in a performance that is the envy of the industrialized world," Bush said.

While that particular line is indeed redundant sounding, it is important to take note that our economy pretty much is better than it ever has been in many ways.

The Trade Deficit:

The U.S. trade deficit for the first 11 months of 2005 totalled $661.8 billion, surpassing the previous annual record of $617.6 billion set in 2004. Economists say when December figures are included, the final deficit for 2005 will top $710 billion

Plus it looks like our Budget Deficit from last year is going to be hovering above 300 Billion.

Yes a strong envious economy we have right now.

2004- 412 billion
2005- 331 billion
2006- estimate 314 billion before Katrina, now estimated closer to 400 billion again

There's more to the economy than a deficit. If there's a deficit or a surplus it doesnt affect me either way of getting a job. Spending under the Bush administration has been horrible and he should be held responsbile for not vetoing many of the bills that's come across his desk, but having a deficit doesnt suprise me when you factor in 9/11, and Katrina.

Fact is though we've had strong growth the last couple years despite record gas prices, and Katrina. We've had large job growth, huge housing boom, and the fed has continually raised interest rates signaling strength.

You'd be foolish, blind, stupid, ignorant, or partisan not to believe the economy is strong.

.

is this like the GDP or something?

GDP isn't reflective of the american situation because foreign investment also counts toward our GDP, not to mention 25% of the GDP is healthcare expenditures and like 30% (not sure of this one) is gvt spending

GDP doesn't have anything to do w/ Foreign anything. Gross Domestic Product = all finished goods and services produced in the country

A Trade Deficit can and will affect you getting a job.

GDP doesn't have anything to do w/ Foreign anything. Gross Domestic Product = all finished goods and services produced in the countryGDP = consumption + investment + exports - imports

foreign investment = investment by foreign people = their money = our GDP

i swear i know what GDP is and i'm just defending myself not trying to make you look like an ass. but this GDP thing was kind of a moot point anyway.
