It's not that everyone hates them, it's that those who love them rarely speak up.
While I love Tell All Your Friends more than any single album Blink put out, the other TBS releases kill it for me.
I vote Blink, as their overall collection is better than TBS's.

By the way, for all of the hate POURED upon the band, they are one of the four favorite bands on ap.net. Nice.
Although I'd say the other three (JEW, Blink, and Brand New) are easily the favorites on this site, the way the brackets are set up doesn't guarantee that the final four are in fact the favorite four...
What if Brand New had beaten JEW in one of the first rounds? Even if they never made it past that first round, I would still say that JEW is one of the favorites on this site. The matchups certainly alter the complexion of this "competition", where lesser bands flew into later rounds because of easy pairings; not saying that TBS is one of those bands (see Thrice and SoCo as really tough matchups). I mean, I bet very few people would have said SoCo as an Elite Eight, but they had the matchups (including a McMahon only bout in the Sweet 16) to get them that far...
That being said, TBS did have some of the toughest matchups in beating Thrice and SoCo in consecutive weeks, so much respect to them. I'll never pour hate on a group that puts out something like TAYF, even if I can't get into their later work. I'm really just arguing semantics here anyways, so it's basically a moot point...

I've never gotten into TBS. I've never even heard TAYF, so I was judging them on the few singles from later albums (probably not fair, but whatever) and the fact that they took out BOTH Thrice and SoCo and I was pissed haha. Anyway, I think you make a really good point. The match ups had a lot of influence and weren't always "fair" for lack of a better term. I know they were random, but still.

People being elitist about Blink 182 is hysterical. Green Day did more for pop punk, and is a better band.
They are a better band. But in no way did they do more for pop punk.
Say what you will about how "good" Blink is but Enema of the State remains to be the THE pop-punk album that started what we're seeing now-adays as pop-punk.

Dookie is the first pop punk album to gain huge sales success. This opened up a huge market for people who wanted to hear pop punk, and Blink stepped into that place, whether or not Green Day was an influence on them.

And your point is? Pop-punk really didn't explode as a scene until after Enema. If it exploded RIGHT after Dookie, you would have a point. But I don't really see the point that they were 5 years apart has to do with anything. Blink was never influenced by Green Day, nor did they follow them, they were all playing music at the same time.

Dude, if you want to play the "it's first therefore it has more influence" card you would have to attribute their success to their influences, and then their influences' influences, it goes on and on, that just doesn't work. Blink and Green day were both producing the same kind of music at the same time. They're both very influential. Let's leave it at that.

Do you really think so? I'm not so sure. TBS really fell out of favor with WYWTB. I think they could have done it without that album.
I mean, don't get my wrong, i know this site reveres Tell All Your Friends and only likes Where You Want to Be, but it's easy to get skeptical of a band with only one album out and hail them so highly. I mean around 2003 blink was still in the prime with the untitled/self-released album, Brand New only had YFW and would have lost (unless this was in 2003 after Deja Entendu came out) and JEW had recently put out Bleed American, arguably the highest point of their career. I think too many factors would have kept them from 2003, but in 2005, blink was over, Deja hype was slowed down and JEW had just put out Futures. There, TBS was still hot stuff and could have taken it.
And your point is? Pop-punk really didn't explode as a scene until after Enema. If it exploded RIGHT after Dookie, you would have a point. But I don't really see the point that they were 5 years apart has to do with anything. Blink was never influenced by Green Day, nor did they follow them, they were all playing music at the same time.
what!?! are you high? Blink loved Green Day when they first started. you do realize Green Day started in late the 80's and Blink was early 90's. which yea, is only a handful of years difference, but I know I have seen an old picture of Mark wearing an old Kerplunk shirt. saying Blink had no influence from Green Day is total incompetence.

No because you completely ignored my point. This has nothing to do with whether Blink was influenced by Green Day. Dookie exploded pop-punk into the mainstream, therefore creating a market for bands like Blink 182 to get big. Without Green Day, it's quite likely Blink 182 never becomes as big of a pop-punk band as they are today.

Not really, Blink and Green day were producing VERY similar style music; the sounds coming from Dookie were very similar to the sounds coming from Blink at the time so even if Dookie failed to exist, blink's albums would have had the same impact as dookie.

wow there is a lot of fail here.
first off... the t shirt is simply one example of Green Day influencing Blink. to say that Mark wore it just for kicks and not because he enjoyed the album is just ignorant.
and where is this definitive list of Blink influences? why is it limited to only those bands? who are you to say those are the only bands to influence them? I also know Blink has been influenced by bands like Jimmy Eat World, a band not mentioned by you.
And I never claimed they LOVED Green Day any certain amount. I said they were influenced by them. And they have cited Green Day as an influence. I know they said so WHEN THEY TOURED WITH THEM. The fact that they played music around the same time doesn't mean one band can't influence the other. Your conclusion is illogical.

well if that's the best you've got.
Blink has always cited Dinosaur Jr. , The Descendents, Screeching Weasel, The Cure, and so on as their influences.
If they LOVED green day as much as you claim they did they would definitely have cited them. but. never happened. because they weren't. they were two bands playing in the same skate/pop-punk style at the same time.

For me, the not-so-good half of WYWTB overwhelms the better half of WYWTB. But I see what you're saying and I'll agree. I stand corrected. However, by 2003, I think the attention on Bleed America had already worn off.
wow there is a lot of fail here.
first off... the t shirt is simply one example of Green Day influencing Blink. to say that Mark wore it just for kicks and not because he enjoyed the album is just ignorant.
and where is this definitive list of Blink influences? why is it limited to only those bands? who are you to say those are the only bands to influence them? I also know Blink has been influenced by bands like Jimmy Eat World, a band not mentioned by you.
And I never claimed they LOVED Green Day any certain amount. I said they were influenced by them. And they have cited Green Day as an influence. I know they said so WHEN THEY TOURED WITH THEM. The fact that they played music around the same time doesn't mean one band can't influence the other. Your conclusion is illogical.
My conclusion is illogical?! 90% of your conclusion was based on a T-shirt. It is VERY easy to like a band and still not be influenced by them.
Oh, you know how to use wikipedia? Congratulations.
Uh no fuck you dude I know my band.

Mark has said he used to play Green Day covers in his garage with various people. Sure sounds like he was influenced by them.
Your conclusion is illogical because it is based on nothing. Where is this definitive list of Blink's influences?

haha i never said I was "authority"; we were just having a discussion. I am merely arguing that due to that fact that they they were both playing music at the same time (ei. blink did not grow up listening to them), and that they rarely to never cite them as a major influence as far as what I'VE seen ( I can't argue things I haven't seen/heard), then I can only conclude that they weren't. I never said I'm right I'm right, I'm just saying as far as I've seen, and I might be wrong, there is no reason to suggest Green Day had an impact on how Blink-182 wrote their songs.

Not really, Blink and Green day were producing VERY similar style music; the sounds coming from Dookie were very similar to the sounds coming from Blink at the time so even if Dookie failed to exist, blink's albums would have had the same impact as dookie.
The sounds they made are actually irrelevant in this case. To have a breakthrough like Green Day did, not only do you need to write a great album, you need to be incredibly lucky. They managed to get Longview played on MTV, which eventually led to the incredible success of Dookie. This made it easier for mainstream music to accept pop punk bands, whichgave Blink the opening to become big. Let's just say Blink 182 released Dookie instead of Green Day. Who's to say they would get the same luck of getting a single of MTV? Plenty of great bands release singles that never achieve success; you need to have luck.
It's really nice to see some discussion on this website.

you said, and i quote...
We have shown that you are wrong. Just admit you were mistaken and move on.

Alright, you want me to say something? Well first off, blink co-headlined the Pop Disaster Tour waaaay back in 02. I was there. During blink's set, Mark was praising Green Day for their success and their influences and friendship. Second, Green Day was one of the first bands to open the doors for pop-punk. Without Green Day, there is no telling if blink would have ever had the success they did today. And the reason I'm here, is to discuss music. I actually have friends on this site, and people that respect my opinion. People like you, who come in here making such bold statements and, even worse, arguing about shit(not discussing) with senior members who know what they are talking about don't last very long.

I would definitely agree with you on this one. Blink for the most part has nice things to say about Green Day but in all honesty I don't believe they really like or grew up listening to much Green Day. They never cite them as an influence or list them as one of their favorite bands, and I remember reading somewhere (I think it was Tales Beneath Your Mom) how Tom really does not care for them.

I was watching "Green Day, All Day" on Fuse the other day, where they played nothing but Green Day programming in honor of 21st Century Breakdown's release, and on one of the shows they interviewed Tom and he had nothing but good things to say about them.

I voted for blink but the fact that TBS made it this far shows that for as much hate as they get around here there are a butt ton of people who still like them.

I think TBS is better but there's no way they're winning.

Finally, TBS is outed. Should've been gone against Thrice.
