wow 20k posts is a LOT.
well since this is already by nature a self indulgent thread, i might as well take this opportunity to beseech all of you download this if you havent already:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?leojwyn3xwd
the second 10k definitely passed slower than the first for those of you who were curious, but i was also less anxious to get to this point, and i did less chatting in chat threads. maybe i shouldnt be celebrating as this only proves i spend way too much time at the computer hahaha.
OBLIGATORY AND OBNOXIOUS "THANK YOU" LIST:
Chromefox (megan): meg, i dont even know where to start. all i know is, there is not a single person on this site who is as similar to me, both in our music tastes and our personalities. its megnificent. in addition to that, something i respect about you so much, is that for someone who has NEVER in their life been formally educated in objective criticism/analysis/appreciation of music, and has never picked up an instrument or wrote a song in her life, you are incredibly good at breaking down the technicalities of the music you are hearing and assessing it intelligibly. sometimes when we're listening to albums together, you point out minute details in the sound that i never would have noticed, and im someone who writes and records all the instruments of entire songs, layer by layer, in addition to intermediate knowledge of music theory. speaking of listening to albums together, i think we must have enjoyed upwards of 70 albums at this point together, of which about half were new to me, and it's easily become a favorte pastime, i love having someone else who is also freaking out over every little detail haha. you've been a key companion in the expansion and transformation of my music tastes, even since you were on the other end of my first time experiencing radiohead, and the details you point out have broadened my horizons and added entirely new dimensions to my music perspectives. for these reasons you are without a doubt the poster who receives the highest appreciation from me.
TheOtherAndrew (THE andrew): hey look its the first poster who was nice to me on these boards. kudos to the max for just being an awesome guy in general, and someone i can ALWAYS count on to crack me up. now the fact that you are a touring member of my band, came up to my college a week ago, and we were able to joke around and converse with zero awkwardness or "netlag" (IM FUCKING CREATIVE), proves one thing: WE DEFEATED THE INTERNET. not to mention us playing and singing every song on TAYF on a nostalgic whim, in my cramped dorm room until both our voices were shot to hell. holy FUCK ive never done that with anyone before though ive always wanted to, and all i can say is "who else would it rather be?" i consider you one of my good buddies and im definitely looking forward to meeting up again multiple times in the future. oh hey look im coming to your fucking house in a week, shit just got REAL! because blax is the new punx. INSIDEJOKEINSIDEJOKEINSIDEJOKEINSID EJOKE
chipdip18 (jacob): man sometimes i look at the discussions we can have and it is amazing how much we have in common. i think you're incredibly introspective when it comes to discussion; you've always got great insight to bring to the table, and you're incredibly open-minded when it comes to the views of others too. i also respect how you're always eager to give something a listen, and we share the same passion for intensive discourse which has kept me a regular poster in the music forum. we tend to agree on a lot of things as well, and lets not forget that we are both massively indulgent and share extensive knowledge of pokemon, and we discuss that too haha. you've got a great sense of humor to boot. you're absolutely a favored poster for me, definitely cant do without your constant participation in the discussion on these boards.
SickOfStars (bobert): if anyone were to assume the role of a mentor here on AP, you'd be like mr. miyagi on steroids. hahaha, but i have absolutely always been a fan of your ability to come into a heated argument, and interperet, validate, and fairly assess both sides of the argument without bias, until everyone respects everybody's opinion and nobody's fighting anymore. i think they call that being a mediator? i could give credit to your study of philosophy, but even philosophers are only human, and i find that most people would be hard-pressed to be as unintrusive, unassumptive, and fair about even their strongest opinions. plus, you're quick to honestly admit any miniscule detriment you may have, and you're so god damn nice haha. i find it really endearing and i respect you a ton.
caityconundrum (caity): one of the two coolest cats on the west coast? you bet. (by the way, i meant *caost.) you share the same sheer infatuation with brand new that ive had since i joined this site, and its always fun quoting their lines to each other at random. im sorry that im not always here to help you get through biology with how busy i tend to be, but "if it makes you less sad, we'll start talking again, and you can tell me how vile i already know that i am." :-) OH OH and just for kicks: C.A.O.S.T -- caity's always outstanding, silk tree?
firecrackaaa! (ashley): AND REPRESENTIN' SAN FRANSICO IN NORTH CALI, PUTCHA HANDZ UP FOR THE LATEST AND GREATEST, ASH-LEY! and im giving you a thank you like its thanksgiving. <-- hahaha, that right there is why you are fantastic, because you appreciate how i can just be the biggest dork sometimes. you're so supportive of my music too and you listen to my problems when i have them, so basically thank you for being awesome! for your abbreviation, im going to use the nickname you gave me: R.Y.P.I.E. -- recently, you've provided immense entertainment.
underthetalking (erick): no one will ever be as epick as epick erick. as one of the original chat threadies, you were one of my first friends on here, and with good reason. you have awesome taste, you tend to phrase your responses in the most badass and efficient ways (i.e. "i hear that" -- i say that all the time now), and you have a sense of sarcasm and cynicism towards the general stupidity of people as a whole that always makes me laugh, whether we're talking about some of the mongoloid posters on this site or the inane people you deal with all day at work. you've been quietly supportive of my music too and thats a favor that WILL be returned -- i forgot paris when you left and i'll be one step ahead promoting your new band when you get some songs together. i know you lurk here a lot but i miss ya man, you should start posting again!
hailthewarrior (garrett): and finally the third chat threadie from last year who befriended me early on. i used to LOVE those intensive pop-punk debates we used to have; out of all the bold-name music forum regulars, we were the most shameless fans of that music style and yet we couldnt agree on SHIT when it came down to it haha. though its not as much of my thing as it still is yours i'll gladly do an IARB vs. SILYMI face-off or something along those lines with you. i also love how you manage to shrug off entire paragraphs of rhetoric and simplify my verbosity down to a few words haha -- funny how the lyricist is actually less concise than the short story author.
c rob 2700 (caleb): you used to be the funniest 16 year old i ever met. shame you're 17 now, i cant give you near as much credit, until next year maybe. wait, i meant maybe... ;-) haha you do make me laugh quite often though. if we come out and play rhino's i expect you and a dozen able-bodied men to start a pussy push mosh, because our music is punk as fuck if you're 12.
Troggy (professor oak): your pokemon knowledge is impeccable hahaha. always a good debate to be had, ive got to battle you using one of those link emulators sometime, we'll see how wide the discrepancy is between the #1 and #2 pokemon master. youve also crafted a niche for yourself as this site's number one hansen and kelly clarkson fan, and who could ever forget the giant llama? definitely one of the more unique posters on these boards, ilu man!
kearn1tm (todd): the mysterious man from the liner notes, which is really just a tagteam for you to get some scene ass. i expect you to hook me up with a hipster indie queen in return though, just dont go overboard with how kinky she is and we'll be good. haha but for real im enthralled by how articulate you are by nature, and it's always nice to see someone who's heard scores of music and can bring to the table an opinion that's seasoned and derived from a broader music spectrum than the typical APer. the occasional debate with you is always in good fun and regardless how many of your dryer jokes go over my head you're always a source for a good laugh. as pathetic as some of the posts in here may be, we need you around here to balance out how single-channeled and narrow-minded this site can be sometimes.
ArtfullyAborted (david): boy, did i judge you wrong from the get-go. forget about the blatant reference in your username, you are far more intelligent and open minded than the typical militant scene kids who make up say anything's dismally myopic fanbase. you are well-versed, well-read, and probably the only damn person on this site who is as verbose and eager to drop several paragraphs in discussion as i am, haha. i expect that between you and i there are many great discussions to be had, judging by our previous encounters from our first tiff about the objectivity in music and lyrics, on up to how we were discussing a couple days ago what it's like to be religious in the politics forum. stick around man, these forums need more people like you.
disco.tetris (varsha): ive said it before, and i'll say it again: VARSHA VARSHA VARSHA! haha you by yourself are better than the entire brady bunch. but not blueberry cheesecake. we've already been over that one, lol. you provide a proper representation of your homeland india for the boardies all to see what a great country it is, not to mention the BROWN POWER we utilize to subject the demographics of this site to our dominion. last but not least, i love how we can be totally spontaneous. speaker dining platter exploded.
x togepi x (chris): man i used to think you were the biggest fucking douchebag and i know that was mutual. but once i 1) stopped taking the internet too seriously and getting butthurt from a feigned sense of hostility, 2) stopped trying to BS my way through arguments i didnt know anything about, and 3) stopped being stubborn and took the time to see the intent and meaning behind your arguments, i realized i could probably learn a lot from you. someone who can debate as well as you can is a rare find, and it's always amusing to see you deconstruct a point (even when you dont disagree with it) and introduce perspectives no one thought about. i can always respect that in a poster, no matter how abrasive you can be.
lew 1981 (lew): and in the other corner, you've got the representative from great britain! we're all kinds of international up in this bitch. we havent had a decent conversation in quite some time but its always enjoyable when we do. good luck with the job search, and i hope you find ways to pay off that debt. if the going gets rough, just remember: it ain't easy bein' a cowboy.
imahoodlum (kaitie): you havent even talked to me that much and you've already left enough of an impression to make this list. record timing, haha. as jacob (chipdip) would say, its becuase you're "balls-to-the-wall" awesome, which is vague enough to leave the intensity of awesomeness under personal discretion. all i know is you're a radiohead and sufjan stevens fan with a sense of humor and that makes you cool in my book.
Burn That Shit (kevin): every time i see your username i just feel this need to shout it. BURN THAT SHIT! oddly enough, it would absolutely be appropriate in your case since the two of us are delightfully obnoxious when the mood is right (hmm... "the mood is right"... are you thinking what im thinking?) thanks for the support with my band man! :-)
oddwithoutend (rick): underneath the reserved shell you prop up is an intellectual always just waiting to engage in discussion. your opinions tend to be different from mine, but this is a good thing as it tends to offer a pleasant change of pace that can make the BN official thread interesting. it's always interesting though haha. love seeing someone who is inclined to dissect the diction, fluidity, syntax, and delivery of every band's lyrics, and it constantly reminds me that there are multiple different ways to apprecaite music and/or attribute your main focus on the music. keep on truckin'.
IWasACamera (vinh): AP's resident nick drake/iron & wine enthusiast, where would i be without your recommendations of all things acoustic? you do a damn good job reviewing as well, i saw your SOTS entry about 2008 in folk and it made me fall in love with organic minimalism all over again, even without having heard too much of it. that music journalism degree you're working on has definitely begun to bear its fruit. as one of the most relaxed but deceptively clever participants in music forum discussion, your blithe sarcasm is a consistent source of entertainment.
CharlieKilo (chris): my fellow rhtyhm guitarist, representin' ms. shelby from rural indiana. you're a fantastic guy, awesome to see someone who grew up on pop-punk but can also go for some dylan or waits on occassion. by the way, thanks for checking out my band recently! me you and andrew hanging out is a flat out necessity when we come out to indy.
GuitarR0cker1 (jesse): this guy is so much cooler than his username and age give him credit for. you're very precocious and your opinions on music and input in discussion have matured during your tenure here, but you're still not afraid to admit that you can jam to some good TEN or relient k, and i respect that. just keep doin what you're doin man.
Chris Fallon (da'quan): fallon the falcon! haha i figured your name was obvious enough so i decided to expose your ghetto side instead. its there, you just have to embrace it, haha. kudos for being the coolest staff member i know, it's always a pleasure.
SSLYBY (cam): pokemon + awesome reference in your username = win. i can NOT believe you've given my band so many plays, and are pulling stirngs to help me set up a show in IN, i mean i just do not deserve it hahaha, thanks so much.
googirl8907 (allison): allison you are so nice haha your posts make me smile, as does your constant support for northbrook. you're always a pleasure to talk to. :-)
SanePsychotic (kris): you are very fair and thoughtful with your opinions, and on a site with so many idiots and condescending assholes its always cool to see you keep a level head. i enjoy your input and of course thanks for helping with northbrook! i'll have to come to danville and get some of your cookies haha
fly guy (jesse): pretty fly for a white guy hahaha. keep rockin TEN, im glad to be one of your 10 friends lol.
