Seymoure - Pretending It's Casual

Seymoure (formerly Seymoure and the Wilmingtons) opens its latest effort with a dramatic guitar line and the simple question: “Wouldn’t you love to know what is in my head?”
From there, the Tyler, TX four-piece takes listeners on an exploration of just what is in its head, and the result is Pretending It’s Casual, an EP full of catchy riffs, clever lyrics, vocals reminiscent of The Starting Line’s Kenny Vasoli and pure pop-punk danceability. With some help from producer Geoff Rockwell (Forever The Sickest Kids, Artist vs. Poet), Seymoure has grown up since their first EP, Between Here and There. This is not your older brother’s high school garage band; the musical maturity of members Caleb Toole (vocals, guitar), Geoffrey Mutchnik (lead guitar), Matt Bynum (bass) and Wesley Holt (drums) shines above most artists their age.
Each of the EP’s six tracks is its own bold statement, from “Cowboys and Indians”, a grimey number that echoes the old South with ringing solos and tambourines, to “I’ll Wait This One Out In The Safety Cupboard,” the album’s graceful closer and the group’s most mature track to date.
In short, the record compels new and old fans to give their undivided attention to these kids from East TX. Heck, it might even be good enough to get fans to quit whining about Seymoure’s name change and return to rocking out. Truly a step forward in every way, Seymoure has proven itself to have the talent; with a little luck, listeners will get to find out what is in this quartet’s head for years to come.
