Some lyrics are more clear about a subject than others, leaving it up to little interpretation, but for the most part, yes.

As far as appreciation of them is concerned, yes of course they are subjective. However, there are some artists who nearly everybody agrees have great lyrics, which indicates there is also an objective standard.

All art is subjective.
agreed. artists may have specifics meanings to their lyrics but how the listener perceives them is the beauty of it.

The meaning of the lyrics which is authorial purpose is objective.
The significance of the lyrics which is listener interpretation is subjective.
Both.

if the music "rocks" then you're absolutely right; there are a lot of artists out there that hold a lot of appeal despite their par or sub-par lyrics, maybe even lack of lyrics (clint mansell, immediate music, etc.). on the other hand, you're completely misguided if you think poetry and good song lyrics are interchangeable. they are two completely unique art forms, where one is a standalone expression heavily reliant on form, style, language and atmosphere while the other is best served to augment the instruments it accompanies, or vice versa (the music serves the lyrics). you can't ignore the lyrics of a song just because you have some rather nice poetry to enjoy afterwards, because the lyrics can often BE the core of the song itself. engaging in poetry should make you appreciate music more, not less.

How can they possibly not be? Perspective and perception is what defines a song.

The preceding answers are incorrect. It's not your fault though, the question was loaded. There are tons of objective standards with which to judge all art. If there weren't, anyone who's ever taken an English, Art, or Music class has just been wasting their time. The interpretation is subject though.
