YO! If a piece of music has ten quarter notes total, would it be wrong to call it 5/4? Holla back!

it depends on how many beats per measure
the top number is howmany beats per measure and the bottom number is what size not the beat is on
examples:
4/4 there are four quater notes per measure
6/8 six beats on the eighth note

12/8 shuffle in A = pure sex. Seriously. But no one plays shuffles anymore.

mm 7/8
5/4 is five quarter notes, not 10. That would like 10/4, or 5/2. Pretty creative.
My fave is 7/8 :wow:

6/8 is my favorite. It was always the easiest for me.

10 quarter notes could be 2 measures of 5/4.
it could also be 5 measures of 2/4.
depends on the phrasing.

I just wrote a sweet song on piano in 6/8. It's my first in an alternate time signature.
