i haven't been doing much poetry as of late, i've been busy working on my essays/short nonfiction work, and my book. however...here's a new one. it probably needs work, but i've been distracted.
hey cowards
come carry me home
the scars are showing
the color is fading
on this masked man
you call a future
so here's the play:
we'll run it down to the core
cancel our subscriptions,
repeat the panic of a new born edition
you'll start the engine
i'll make the move
just one more job, friends
there's nothing here for us to lose
ten months later,
television tells me all I need to hear
of the new revolution.
the all powerful coup d'etat
is a fake fool's game
a hopeless man's regatta.
count the times you've run away
towards the thing you meant to run from
repeat the lines you've run in your head
the ones you'll never be rid of
but hey baby, you faltered.
this skyline speaks of change
from the days we spent unalarmed
you, me, and the getaway car
a new panic is brewing
now, from the shots we fired
i felt a brand new sound
i felt a new world sting
i smell the scent of an intifada
hey cowards
come carry me home
the scars are showing
the color is fading
on this masked man
you call a future
